Does anybody else use a rifle as a tool?

Coyote deer
are both going to run off before you get your ass out of the car
groundhog rat mouse goose redwing blackbird
you have a NEED to shoot those with a rifle ASAP?

mugger carjacker communist. Etc

good luck fighting off a mugger with a rifle while inside your car....frankly youre better off with a handgun or just running them the fuck over.

i think everyone should have a rifle/ shotgun in their car.....frankly i dont think there is a need to have it super fast access as stated by OP...

All my rifles are tools. If ya wanna keep rifles in a safe that’s your business, but the last time I potentially didn’t have a gun in my car was driving through Canada. Some of my best shooting (and neccissary stress relief) have been with cheap ar’s, ar7’s, norinco clones of browning sa22 takedowns, and pcp air rifles usually right below a highway underpass or right off the freeway, and now anywhere anytime there’s something worth shooting at. Posts like this really make the untrained, unaware stand out. If you can’t predict the future then shouldn’t you prepare for it?

Ive got a skunk problem, ive killed 28 from under my house & barn in the past year. Mostly under my house....

Anyway its a pretty quick response time when you hear one of those slip out in the middle of the night. So yeah. Ive got some working guns. Precision rifles are for coyotes and up. Cant say I have any safe queens. I like to think that I buy quality so I dont have to baby my rifles.

Next youre going to have a yellow jacket problem.

I wish I had the spare cash to buy toys but right now all my rifles/handguns were purchased to fulfill a specific need. Sometimes I splurge a little, but i don't splurge on range toys. The fam operates a few thousand acres of commercial farm land and a rifle is pretty much required for working out there. Poachers, hogs, coyotes... not stuff you want to run across by yourself, after dark, in the middle of nowhere. My brother in law got run up on a pivot by 2 hogs and their piglets a month or 2 ago (not all that common on our farm... we try to eliminate hogs as they enter the property so the population is pretty close to zero on our land). He didn't have his rifle and ended up stuck up there for about 30min until someone showed up to bail him out. So mainly critter control. We rarely have real issues with people but we do have people venture onto our land for various reasons (lost dogs and people looking for war artifacts mainly) so you just have to keep your eyes peeled for trouble.

When/if you leave California, don’t come to Texas and bring any filthy politics with you or Californians manners. As long as you leave that crap behind then come on. We have enough problems crossing the border by the thousands. (Not turning this thread more political than it is. I’m just sayin.)

Whew, man if anyone is under the impression that I'd bring California drama with me, they're sorely mistaken. That's why I'm leaving in the first place!

Shooting out of you car, on the side of a highway, at anything worth shooting at... Sounds more like a toy then a tool.
I never said I shot out of a car.. shot outa strykers and humvees, although sounds like you don’t worry about carjackings were you are from.. you’ve never grouse hunted either I take it? And some years I see more black bears crossing the road then I see in the woods. You can call my guns toys if you want, especially my air rifle(s) but I know how much meat each one puts on the table. And I know between the two of us, you’ll be the one caught with your pants down way before I’m caught with a toy for a tool. Unless of course your calling infantryman tools. I don’t know if I can argue with that one..

I don’t keep safe queens. If I can’t justify it being here it goes down the road. No free lunch. They’re all tools, even the spendy ones. AR10 hiding in this one.

Not going to lie... your first post kinda made it sound like you were shooting cans under overpasses haha. We don't have much public land here in SC so stopping on the side of the road and blasting an animal out from under a bridge would be seriously frowned upon / illegal.

Ohh. I guess I brought that on myself then. Lol.

I keep a long gun in my truck always, either a scoped 223 AR or a CZ527 in 223AI. Both are short enough to swing in the truck, and I have shot a LOT of critters through the window, pigs and coyotes primarily. I have a rifle rack mounted to the roof that lets me reach the rifle from the drivers seat.
