I bought a pre made target stand at my local range but would like to make more. Where do I find this corrugated plastic stuff? And what is it called?

I just go to Home Depot and get their 2’x4’ 1/4” Luna handy panels. Another option is their heavy duty moving boxes. They are twice as thick as normal cardboard so are a lot more rigid.

I just get mine from the local hardware store. I use it for all my targets (spray paint a ipsc silhouette on them and they work like reactive targets), just staple it to my wooden frame and I use it on all my barricades too.

My hardware shop calls it tunnelcore double wall plastic sheet.

I prefer the foam insulation solid sheet. Doesn't disintegrate as fast as other media I have tried. I forget the real name for this type of insulation board. Stuff lasts forever

A sign shop like Fast Signs here in Houston has the corrugated plastic cardboard. I imagine any sign shop would have it and sell you the raw material.

Awesome advice, when I lived in Houston there was a hurricane window protector company that used the stuff I used to get some from. I will check into the sign places around here.

Not sure what kind of foam sheets your talking about????

Hmmmmm interesting on the foam sheets. I’m going to have to give that a try. I’m sure it’s pretty brittle right? I’m going to have to throw it in the bed of my truck and drive to public land to shoot so needs to be pretty durable.

I dunno how to describe it. Its kinda like a self healing target to a degree. It takes a lot of rounds in an small spot to finally start making chuncks disappear. The club I belong to used them for our match targets until we went electronics. Framed in the foam with 2x4s. Each target would last about a season and a half before they needed to be replaced. I imagine if you moved your target around on the foam it would last s good while. I use it when I'm not shooting steel.

Thanks for the help guys. I walked around Home Depot but didn’t think about the sign area. I bought a sheet of thin plywood to use this weekend but know it won’t last long.

If you need a waterproof target, Tyvek house wrap works perfect. I bought a 3' x 100' roll for $60. I use a permanent sharpie to draw any lines I need and use orange dots covered with clear tape to aim at. 100% water proof, and can still be folded up and shoved into a range bag when done.

I just use cardboard boxes, when you’re in Home Depot or Lowe’s ask if they have any old fridge boxes that they haven’t broke down into the baker yet. Late afternoon when the the delivery trucks get back.
Or an ac company may have some as well.
I’m currrently using some boxes from a couple 80” televisions from work, they are huge, solid 8x4 panels of double thick cardboard.
I also use butcher paper for when they get shot up, just roll a new sheet across and it’s brand new.

Primary brand name is "Coroplast." Find a local supplier for signs, etc. They will sell cases of 4x8 sheets for around 1/8th the cost per square foot of buying signs from Home Depot.

https://www.coroplast.com/distributor/

Ask them about cutting, as they might do that cheap and then you can get them delivered ready to go.

Otherwise, sharp box knife cuts it well enough.

Note they have a zillion colors. You probably don't care as it's structural so ask for the cheapest color (white likely) but there it is, if you have a good use for different colors.

If you really like HD or Lowe's, you can buy the 4x8 sheets from them also for not awful prices. May have to pick up, if that works. They generally handle it poorly, so if it was for architectural purposes you'd be mad at the dinged up corners, but for target backers, will work fine.

Agree it's the best target material ever. Need to shoot thousands of times, or quite a few with a shotgun even, to make it useless.

Target stores have them as well. Here's some backers:

Don't know your locale but if you are in a corn growing area hit up the seed rep guys.
They toss the signs yearly and usually have a truck load a year.
I get them for free for removal.
They are made out of the plastic cardboard that is weather proof.
Usually several companies in one area.

I got several years supply for free from a church that changed out signage. Also, the local campaign offices are responsible for removing signage after elections. They generally have stacks of it to dispose of.

I'm a thrifty mofo so I used to cut up the kids diaper boxes for backers. Not waterproof but effective. Now I work for a corrugated container company and can get all I'd ever need. (One of our machines is rated for sheets as big as 86"×212", for your Minute of mountain) 20190118_190329.jpgWhen I started last fall I snagged a couple of these, but they haven't run them since then. 20171113_101609.jpg

The medium size moving boxes from Home Depot will get you enough cardboard to do 4 roughly IPSC size targets without much waste. I normally keep the best out of the four targets to use as a template the next time. The moving boxes take a decent amount of punishment before they have to be trashed.

Tip if you have nosey neighbors like I do - cut the target shape from each of the four sides of the box from the outside of the silhouette and you avoid ending up with target shaped leftover pieces

I make these out of the sheets of blue foam insulation from Lowe’s. This is what the AMU uses on there pistol range at Ft Benning and it works great. It lasts a long time , it’s pretty cheap, staples stick in it great , it’s weatherproof.
