Greatest pre ~1962 SMG

1911 is better as a backup... but there are times when 30 rounds beats 7...

I still have my favorite 1911 modified GCNM. And it is so much fun to shoot and hit things with. But the MP-5SD does have its charms. Not the least of which is an ability to Swiss Cheese... so much at a time!

Of course, there is also the Welrod, which I want to start reproducing on Form 1. One of the better toys in the inventory.

Cheers,

Sirhr
Even as far back as the early eighties we had ten round mags. They stick way the hell out but ten beats 7. I would also say, that i've been a .45 guy mostly but it doesn't matter if you don't hit what you aim at. 9mm or .45...it doesn't matter. Six of one half dozen of the other. More rounds is better. More rounds on target faster is best. Time to aim was the advantage the 1911 held for me.

Added: If we were to fast forward this conversation to ANY SMG, I would have to say the one that AMAZES me is the PS-90 shooting SS192 (?...the banned stuff). Not necessarily for the weapon, but the ammo is KILLER!

Looks like a hot rodded Sten tube gun. All that kind of stuff was ok back in the 80s. If you have a Reg. Sten, you can still hot rod it. Otherwise it has to be a post86 sample. And you have to have a very spendy mfg license to make it. Cheers, Sirhr.
You are right, it's a modified MkIII Sten with PPSH 41 mags.... No license is needed to make one in Canada since I took the RCMP to court.... Anyone with a regular firearm possession license can make one now

P.S. Well done... very nicely-executed and, well, great job putting the Mounties in their place. ;-) Watch out, though, they might sic. the Littlest Hobo on you!

Thanks, I will never forget the day I took them to court. The first thing I did was to get them thrown out of the court room, they were pissed, really pissed. I will never forget the looks on their faces as they walked past me, everyone of them looked like they were chewing a wasp. When they were called back in again they were instructed to come to an agreement with me. :)

The thing that I find strange is that not a single person in Canada has ever complimented me on it, despite that everyone has benefited. I actually think they are unhappy I won. Bunch of wankers.

OT a bit. Regarding the Thompsons and M3s, has anybody ever seen the steel cased .45acp? I had heard several years ago that this was loaded hotter for smg use. However, like 1943(?) pennies, was this the same ammo and just due to a lack of brass?

I've fired some from a pistol. Didn't seem hotter than anything else.

Nice gun but it's not worth $18, 000.
Ahh, Canada, I get it now. No, it's not really worth $18,000 except here in the U.S. Mr. "Gun" president (Reagan) signed into law, in 1986, that no new manufactured machine guns can be made for the public. It's an unconstitutional law, but has not been seriously brought forward to the Supreme Court, Which, per the Constitution of the United States, would be knocked down.

There are stupid laws in every country. They tried to ban my stens here in Canada but were not successful.

My vote for first place is the Uzi, with the MP5 in 2nd place. The only reason those two aren't switched is because the MP5 requires more frequent servicing that is not easily done in the field. The Uzi just goes forever. Ergos on the MP5 are better and it is slicker. The Uzi was designed for +P+ though I have never had a hiccup with +P. The folding stock will chew your face up after not too many rounds.

How come you only need just a pal for a full auto machine gun in Canada alway thought the gun laws in Canada were abit stiffened.
You can't legally have a fully auto machine gun in Canada, but you can have a semi auto open bolt which are considered to be machine guns in the US, due to their ease of conversion.
