Possibly switching up calibers from 6 cheatmoor

I’m looking for a little advice, I’m toying around with switching from 6cheatmoor to something a little bit more barrel friendly but don’t know where to look. I’ve know all the 6br based stuff is the new jam but I’m not sold on them.

I’ve been considering reaming both my 6mm creed to a 243ai and my 6.5 creed to a 260ai lapua brass for 243 and 260 much cheaper but I don’t think the barrel life will be any better

Fire forming isn't really a big deal. It would still be tough to get me to do it, if the same thing could be had with factory brass options.

Honestly I like the way the AI shoot more than the creedmoors. As I have shot both 260ai and 243ai and they perform better than my 6 and 6.5 so I guess that goes back to what are you into most. as stated I don’t think the barrel life will be any better haha

6creed =1300-1900


Just some reasonable estimates, could be more or less but these are reasonable expectations that I wouldnt be surprised to see based off all the reports Ive seen. Some say you can take a br up to 7k rounds, some say you can do the same with a creed so just take everything with a grain of salt lol

Why not straight 6.5CM? It seems perfectly situated in the sweet spot between performance and barrel life, and its the easy button compared to fireforming brass and all that nonsense. Dont even need to reload.

It’s pretty much exactly the same. Juuuuust different enough to actually be different. It’s not any more expensive if you reload. If you stomp on it you’ll get above 3k fps with h4350 and 105s but 2970 was my comfortable cruising speed. Rl16 can add 100 fps to that but it’s a dirty b.

You want easy and great barrel life do a straight 6BR...30g varget or RL-15 CCI450 or BR4 seat a 105 hybrid or 108g Berger touching the lands shoot 3 shot groups and seat back .005 at a time...pretty much guaranteed to walk away with a 1 hole load.

The 243ai can use h1000 or h4831sc. Either one of those powders can get a nice mild 243ai load in the mid 3100s. Should be better barrel life that 6creed. You wont need to trim brass with ai cases either.

I have a criterion remage 243ai that I ran shit hot, 105@3290fps, it still groups in the mid .3s with 1800rds. Obviously it wasnt used in prs stuff because of speed limit, but it's been thrashed on several times that it was hot enough to smoke bullets 40yds downrange. Have 400rds on it since it did that.

Straight 6BR is easily the best shooting decision I've ever made. Load dev totally redundant - I literally could not find any combo of Varget/105 Hybrids that didn't shoot .5moa or better (much better). 21.5' barrel = 2725fps. Probably the most fun rifle I've ever owned.

That said I have a straight .243 barrel for this action that will push 105's to 3150fps with a mild load of H1000 - so it depends how far you want to stretch things

If I could get around 2900-3000fps with a BR that could be an option, but I don’t know if that’s possible. The whole 6BR world is very foreign to me, but the original caliber I wanted was a dasher but I got talked out of it.
