I'm planning on building a .223 switch barrel build around a West Texas Ordnance SwitchLug and I need some help thinking about other calibers that I should consider along with the .223 barrel that share the same bolt face. The only caliber that really cam to mind was 6x45, but there's probably others that I'm not thinking about that I probably should consider

In terms of intended use, it's going to be paper and steel out to 300 yards because that's the limit at my current range.

Why do you want a switch lug?

Just go all in on .233 especially if your not shooting past 600 yards.

Less components, less money. Less headache.

You could buy an Impact action and just buy different barrels to swap out. No need for a switch lug. Just unscrew then.

Honestly though no one does that hence we buy two different rifles.

I’ll have to take a look at that. I honestly hadn’t even thought about impact actions

With the Switchlug there’s no need for an action wrench or removing your action from the stock to use a vice. After owning a WTO Switchlug and three barrels for almost three years now I’m like why wouldn’t you do a Switchlug.

Here’s mine and my buddies WTO Switchlug. Mines a trued 700 action with 6.5 Creedmoor, 6 Creedmoor and .308 barrels. His is a Bighorn TL3 with 7 Saum, 6 Creedmoor and Smokeless Muzzle loader barrels.

Bighorn tl3
Is where it is at for multiple shouldered barrels. Easy switch of just the bolt head you can run 223 up to prc with a switch of barrel and bolt head.
I have 223, 6.5 creed, and 243 Ackley barrels a for mine.

? What @Dogsniper said. I have 223 Ackely, 6 Dasher, 6 Creed, and 6.5 Creed barrels for mine.

Bighorn sells 223, 308, 6.8/Valkyrie, PPC/Grendel, and Magnum bolt heads, so you have lots of options for a multi-caliber gun. And changing a bolt head only takes a couple of minutes, with zero tools.

Actually surprised they don’t have one specifically for the Bighorn Origin. Perfect action for the SwitchLug system.

Wishing I had gone Origin SwitchLug instead of Nucleus, since I already had a TL3.

My WTO is currently a 223 and 6 CM. Works great with a bighorn action.
@drglock where do I get a smokeless MZ barrel for the bighorn? Gotta have one of those !
Center Punch USA is where my buddy had his built. Here’s pics of it at the builders place. He does load development before shipping it back. Velocity is supposed to be right at 3000fps with the 45cal and 300gr bullets.
