What's Going to Happen May 1st?

How do you reopen businesses and not start to the curve going back up with new infections? At least mandated wearing of masks in public will help. I foresee a long summer of sadness for our country.

The poors will have an excellent, shuttered summer in their high rise NY tenements...same in Chicago and St. Louis...

The virus will run in terror

I think the result of this should be "Whatever the government imoses on the people the governement must also suffer under"

Everyone in Govt should be funded to the level of unemployment.

You guys are certified idiots, seriously did you play football without a helmet?

I'm still working and I work for a government agency. Why am I still working? Because even if assholes stay home and complain their shit life choices and shit career choices and shit skills landed them in shit jobs they still want all the trappings of society. They want electricity, water, sewer, garbage collection, mail, law enforcement, fire protection, traffic lights that work, street lights that work, air traffic control of the skies, the weather predicted and monitored, floods controlled, massive swaths of land irrigated, ships moving cargo, a working financial system and the nation defended from all enemies foreign and domestic.

Please take the time to tell us how you and a few other fat halfwits sitting on your couch playing with your selves to kiddie porn could do it better? We got time.

You had me right up to the "defended from all enemies foreign and domestic" part.

By the way, I am at work as well. I just work in the oilfield so I am not actually doing anything.

I didn't realize that you did not know the military is still working and they are government employees. Tragic.

Well anyway, The evil government stands up the military. They call it the Department of Defense and those guys are still out there doing their thing. We didn't close down missile silos or bring back submarines, the military has not pulled out of every 3rd world shithole we are currently involved in.

You work in an oil field, do you think your employer should cut your pay to unemployment levels so that non-essential people would fell better about themselves?

Government provides nothing.

It takes from others in order to provide for others.

Deliver the mail and provide for the common defense, otherwise get out of the way.

Working in govt Im thankful every day to those people left, right, for and aft of me that they provide me a great life.

I dont shit on their career choices, working private sector I realize they may work more demanding jobs without the protections I enjoy.

If they suffer because of govt why shouldnt govt suffer.

Most of those services you mention are private sector and presently deemed "essential". The private sector is handling those functions in a manner more efficiently than govt would. We are lucky to have them working when they could just say "Fuck it".

You feel pretty privlidged in your position, almost entitled I sense.

If Im facing any hardship in my career because of CV19 "Oh well" its the nature of the job. Signing up for it comes with expectations of service to those from whom their earnings are taken to pay me.

I never posted my opinion on the matter one way or another. You decided for me it seems.

As far as the oilfield goes, many have already been reduced to unemployment level pay because they were let go and had to file unemployment. Maybe near half of the industry. Many more to follow. The ones that remain are taking paycuts. I myself took a $1500 month salary pay cut and I am not on locations working so I lose an average of $2500 month on my day rates as well. Add those two together and see what you come up with. Who knows if the small company I work for will make it through this. Right now it doesn't look good. You don't have to worry. I'm sure you will be just fine. That's good for you. Perk of the job. It would be a shame for the government sector to take a pay cut to help pay for the mess that the government with the help of China created.

Yeah I'm a dentist with 8 employess counting on me and my practice for careers. I've been shut down to emergency care only since 3/19. Many, many practices will go under if this carries on too long. I did half a day of extractions and root canals today the first time I have worked since last Tuesday. Then I went to Lowe's hardware to get wood for a box blind and the place was packed, as was the local garage, all convenience stores, the liquor store, etc. People everywhere business as usaual, yet I'm struggling to pay employees out of work with no production. If I wasn't 26 years in with good financial choices I'd be facing practice bankruptcy eminently and will anyway if I am forced to do this extending out. Selectively putting folks out of business is the crux here. News is all doom and gloom about lack of hospital space looming meanwhile our local hospital is down 60% with a grand total of one corona case seen and the closest hospital corp (7 regional hospitals) has laid off 300 due to lack of business. Probably 85% of my patients would be coming as usual if the stay at home emergency care shut down wasn't on line and many are pissed at being put off indefinitely.
you do know u would qualify for one of the small business loans

More graves will be dug from this then the entire conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

You want to be mad at the govt. fine... just have enough respect for the 10,000+ that have dead family members to not belittle their loses
Apples to oranges, dude. We're talking about general government response, not about the individual families who lost a loved one to this bullshit biological attack by Chi-Na.

The hit to your industry is a "real" economic throat punch in that its based on economic factors not illness.

In political terms your reality is more harmful to Trump.

The Dems can not really hang Trump with the 10 million lay offs as its disease.

The layoffs in the hundreds of thousands in the oil industry though would be seen as under his watch.

The plight of the oil worker is lost in the noise of CV19 and the average America is just happy to see $1.90/gal gas.

I agree. This virus is having its toll as well though. Hell most companies won’t allow visitors in the offices or on working locations. Tough to make sales calls like that to even try and get work if your current customers are shut down.

I didnt intend to go off in this direction anyhow. Theres a thread for that. Lol

Sure. I applied last week. There is zero timeline on when it will be available and whether we even get. Don't listen to the media laud the great help money available to those small businesses out of work due to government mandate......it is anything but an easy process to get and the application has changed 3 times in the past week. Meanwhile my employees have to eat and the business have enough left over to be a business if and when the actual small businesses ever see any of the money. I am lucky compared to some of my colleagues....my building and practice are paid for and the practice has money in the bank......that goes away quickly with utilities, taxes, payroll and employee health insurance. At 57,000/month alone payroll it doesn't take long to kill a small business and contrary to popular belief healthcare offices run on very high/heavily regulated by the government overheads.
