I'm not so sure it's a Winchester problem and if so do you think all that damage was done in one setting? I shoot mostly Federal 210M primers in .308 and .260 and never heavy loads. I've never had a primer blow out or show signs of high pressure, and the original owner only shot about 700 rounds of new factory ammo and sent this in for warranty in 2017 when it was smaller. He was told it was okay and returned to him. I just noticed mine has gotten worse and looks more like a material problem of inclusions or porosity in the bolt head.

Was the original owner and seller trustworthy enough to believe it was only 700 rounds of factory ammo and nothing else?
If some AIs can go 100k rounds of factory 308, I don't know how a brand new rifle with 700 rounds on it would look like that and be deemed OK.
Yeah, The rifle was in like new condition when I received it and the hole was much much smaller then and because of the letter and response from AI I assumed it was okay. I've put about 2500 rounds and the original owner 700 and we're to believe we both had the same primer problems affecting the exact same spot.

Got 4th out of 34 teams, despite @hic28 not being able to use his AXMC cause factory Hornady 6.5PRC decided not to make it pass 200y without 147’s blowing up. So he had to use couple loaner rifles to compete in the match....

Yeah the bolt head would definitely be a option. However both me and him are interested in the 223 conversion anyways. So might be going that route sooner than later.

Definitely didn’t have any wear prior to this one trip. Both his AI and my AI have less than 1000 rounds on them. And they definitely didn’t have any marks on the bolt head like that prior to this one range day shooting Winchester primers. Wish I had photos of his bolt head and the brass to show y’all. His bolt had multiple craters. Not as bad as I have or yours did. But still.

Accuracy International 223 conversion working
I needed a little bit of advice and opinions on this kit. I’ve been getting a few PM’s on the kit since Frank mentioned it. I have a working 223 conversion that we’ve made at the shop. It fed factory ammo really well with a slight stall maybe 4-8% of the time. I can’t get it replicate the issue...

It’s not a AI issue. It’s a Ammo issue. If my buddy was shooting factory ammo or had a different primer the issue wouldn’t of happened. So don’t let this stop you from getting a AI
Are you saying the AXMC was causing pierced primers on the factory Hornady 6.5 PRC ammo? If so, why would that be happening? Large firing pin? Or were you saying something else? Congrats on the 4th place finish!
Some barrels can spin them too quickly, if the MV is way up there... Projectiles literally ripping apart and turning into dust. Need to either slow down, change to a slower twist rate or change projectiles.
I'm building a 6.5 PRC hunting rifle right now with a 1:7.5 proof, hoping to only shoot factory Hornady precision hunter ammo... Fingers crossed.

For 6.5PRC, didn’t matter if it was a 7.5 or 8 twist, Proof or Bartlein.
There’s been many cases of Hornady Ammo or bullets not making it to the target. Or putting some infamous ‘banana’ holes on paper . RPM’s in the 285k or below.
It’s a sight to see when they blow up 40y in front of the barrel.

Ouch... Winchester large rifle primers strike again. I torched a bolt on a Remington 700 in 22-250 a couple years ago with a bad batch of Winchester large rifle primers even though up to then the older batches never had any issues at all. I was too focused on blasting a very active field of ground squirrels to notice the little puffs of gas escaping-- about 30% of the primers were failing via pinholes right at the radius of the primer. One afternoon of shooting left a hell of a gas cutting ring on the bolt face. Replaced the bolt when I rebarreled the rifle.
The gas cutting of the bolt face from primer leakage is really more of a cosmetic issue than a safety issue until it gets either deep enough to weaken the bolt (doubtful) or the craters get large/deep enough to leave the circumference of the primer unsupported which can promote even more frequent primer failures at the radius of the primer.
Very stand up of your buddy to replace your bolt!
yeah im not overly concerned about it all. he doesnt currently have the money but he wants to order me one like now. Especially as I have a match on the 11th of next month. He has gone through the proper channels with winchester and we are waiting to hear from them. But I don't have high expectations.
What is the purpose of the threaded cap on my factory flash hider. My AI/AT has that. My AX does not.I am sure one of you smart folk can tell me why. The cap comes loose after a shooting session, I always check that is tight be fore I use rifle. Curious as to what the heck the threaded end of the flash hider could be used for.

I’m really enjoying “gaming” the big matches and shooting the 20” 308 at shorter range matches with nothing but an Armageddon gear game changer and bipod.
Are any of you guys running the .223 conversion kit? If so what are you experiences like? I have an AT I’m really Interested in getting one for.
Shot at my sand pit on Monday, it was in the 90s and brutal. AXSA 6.5 x 47 factory Lapua 139s, put a 100 rounds total through it.
First two groups are with the Tangent, 3rd group is with the S&B having a problem with the mount or the scope, not sure which. Gonna swap out the quick release mount to nut model. See if that makes a difference. Nearly all the groups are like this with the S&B.
Been going back and forth between these two scopes trying to figure out shy the S&B consistently does poorer.
