You got that right. It's not the same. You almost get penalized for being a good worker. One instance, I was working on an install 30 miles away when the boss calls and says there's a trouble ticket inside the station. I stop my work, drive to the station. What do I find? A coworker sitting in our shop, drinking coffee and on the computer. I fix the problem and march into my boss's office and ask him why he called me away from my assignment 30 miles away when Joe (not his name) was sitting in the shop. His answer, he needed it fixed and fixed the first time. I walk out shaking my head.
First year I was on the FD I spent what seemed like every minute not on a job in the truck room, doing the laundry,washing the dishes,making coffee and shoveling snow,and a whole bunch of shit I'm too old to remember. I thought I was the luckiest asshole on earth...and I was.
It's the problem I run into every day! I have to work my performers to death!
Admin keeps asking us why we keep losing good people, yet they order us to place our weakest people in the best positions. Keep in mind my admin is career admin with absolutely no operational experience.

Speaking of workers, currently me and my production team are working 3 x 12 hour days, Mon, Tue and Wed, 7 30 am to 7 30 pm. Yesterday I got a call from one of my guys at 7 40 am asking where everyone was as nobody had turned up yet. Sort of congratulated him for being keen but then explained that waking me up when I had a hangover on a Sunday morning meant he was going to have a shit week....
Man! I HATE when I do that!
Same shit in the fire service. Guess I'm moving over to old guy now, since we are hiring them that were born after I started. I tell the new guys, "you are not entitled to a fucking thing but air to breath, earn your place every day."
