Would like some input before I pull the trigger. I currently have an Romeo4 and a Juliet 4 on my AR. I have been thinking about going to a variable optic. I’m just curious what your guys recommendations are and why. I would be using this mostly for fun and possibly doing some competitive shooting. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on how far out you shoot. 1-4x, 1-6x may be fine. I like the 1-8x or 1-10x.
There's a Primary Arms Platinum 1-8x24 on the PX for sale. It would be a great deal for $1000. Great Japanese glass.
I use one and it's fast on 1x and the reticle is great for holds at 500-1000 om 8x. Throw lever makes moving mag ring fast. I use offset BUIS as opposed to reflex sight but that's an option too.

I’ll check that out. I was looking either 1-6 or 1-8. Is there any reticle you would recommend ? I know some people just like plain and others want everything and anything. I’m just trying to get as much info as possible because I know if I want something decent it’s not going to be cheap.

I picked it because of the reticle, then the Jap glass and features. I prefer tree style reticles if I’m holding over. I don’t adjust elevation on my LPVO once it’s zeroed. I don’t think anyone would. I have the ACSS Griffin reticle but the one for sale is an ACSS M2 which is very good also. For $450 range their SLx line gets good reviews. I haven’t used one though. At $1000 it’d be hard to be. Also no tax or shipping cost...and they’re back ordered so there’s that.

I have the NF Nx8 1-8 on a 10in AR.
It’s the perfect patrol style optic, IMO.

Compact, functions as red dot @1x & cranked to 8 power she is smacking steel at 400.

My exact optic.

It’s a meaty center dot (which allows it to function as a red dot) but not so big to obscure a 2-3moa target at distance.
I like that, so you can choose to either dial or do holds. And from what i have heard NF is a very dependable optic. thank you for the info.

I forgot to mention my PMii 1.5-8....because the NF Nx8 is that much better IMO. Maybe not the equal in glass but damn close & I’m not shooting serious groups or spending the time at max power to justify the added bulk.

34mm tube is oversized for a light AR, looks weird to my eyeballs.

I’ve been kicking around the idea of selling my 1.5-8.....the Short Dot 1-8 with its 30mm tine does look like the bee’s knees tho.

I have a Nightforce NX8 1-8x which I really like for an AR setup. Had a Vortex Razor 1-6x but was not really satisfied with it. For a more budget friendly variable optic, the Steiner p4Xi is a good scope, clear with daylight bright illuminated reticle. Though, it is only 4x.

So that looks like the same one my boss has, he really likes it and when looking through it the glass looks really nice. The only worry I have on this one is the durability. I know most people don't drop their guns on purpose but have you seen any lost of zero for any reason?

The Razors are very durable.

Consider the Kahles 1-8. It's SFP, but the glass is fantastic, the FOV is unmatched, especially at 1X, and the 3GR reticle is designed for competition. Shameless plug: I have one for sale at the PX right now.
