I refuse to buy 9mm right now, it's obscene. I'm taking a class from Tony Cowden next month, I wanted to shoot my G19, but I'm gonna run my P320 .40 because I can actually get ammo for it.
I dunno man... you see the car thread on here? There are hide members with bentleys, lamborhinis and a whole bunch of other rides that might cost more than my house. I don't think it's worth their time to cast bullets or even reload for handgun at all. Guys like that are probably better off paying $3 per round for a tailored load from copper creek or something if they need top shelf ammo.
Pre pandemic, I figured out it made absolutely no sense to load 9mm or .223 anymore. Just precision rounds for a select few rifles. I don't think casting ever made sense for me... I'm not good enough with a handgun to see any accuracy gains and the time and equipment invested definitely weren't worth it when I could buy 50rds of 9mm for $8 per box.
That no longer applies.... for me. I reluctantly bought some cheapo lee 9mm dies a few months back.
I converted my AT back to 7.62x51.
Original AT barrel is out getting threaded for a brake. Really helps with recoil management and speed.
- Have a lot more of it in inventory
- Still can get it at a good price. FGMM or M118LR is $1.25/round versus $1/round pre-COVID
- For most of my shooting, it works well.
The ammo shortage is not ending anytime soon.
I paid $100exactly what I’ve been doing , I just going to leave it unthreaded what does it cost to get it threaded?
Make it simple for the young people out there, respect the constitution and bill of rights, learn our history, and realize our system works! There is no systemic racism in America! Blacks, Latino, Italians, Irish and every race has achieved the the American dream; astronauts, fighter pilots, doctors, scientists, congressmen/women, senators and the list goes to the white house; anyone that thinks differently is a socialist marxists communist anarchist here to destroy us from within. After 2 world wars of fighting communism, our young should know better; punks View attachment 7448267

Some things to keep in mind when you think the retailer is "gouging":
You don't know what he paid for that ammo or to what lengths he went to get it. Some are having to scour and purchase ammo from other retailers, paying retail, and then marking it up. Also, some are having to take additional good or accessories, sometimes less desirable items, to get that ammo on their shelf.
It appears many on here are okay with capitalism until it negatively effects the price of goods they want. Good ole supply demand can be a bitch sometimes. The upside to it in this scenario is for that guy who has to have that 1 or 2 boxes of 9mm, that higher price tag helps to ensure some might be on the shelf for him because the guy who already has 10-20 boxes will pass on it. Also, while some of you are begrudging dealers who might make a little, or maybe even a lot extra margin right now none of you likely felt bad for him while things were plentiful and he was getting by on paper thin margins.
Finally, the beautiful thing about freedom is that dealer is free to charge whatever he wants for a box of ammo and you're free to not buy it or anything else from him ever again.
I keep seeing links to CheaperThanDirt on here. Are people on here just using their prices as a barometer of how things are, or are they actually trying to purchase their ammo from them? Considering their history of screwing people on pricing, I'm kinda surprised to see them linked here so often.
For me, I made it on their mailing list when I purchased some magazines a few years ago- at non-panic pricing- and I’m too lazy to unsubscribe, and a bit curious as well. Their sales flyers are like a slow motion train wreck I can’t look away from. “Ooooh, CtD has 9mm AND 5.56 today? How laughable are the prices?” It’s really just morbid curiosity, though if they have the right item at the right price I may bite...I keep seeing links to CheaperThanDirt on here. Around my area, Primers by themselves are going for what a 9mm round cost a year ago.
Nice..... If i had this in my back yard, i pry would be running low on 22 ammo!!After this storm, the question is how long before prices drop to reasonable levels. We shoot a couple times a week, and have not bought ammo since March. This rationing is not good for our attitudes View attachment 7448238
Ain't that the truth... I was in my local barber shop scheduling a cut and one of the lady barbers came over (she knows I love guns) and excitedly told me she had just bought her first handgun a S+W M&P. I told her that that was awesome and congrats and asked if she had any ammo. She said they let her buy 2 boxes for $50.00. I grimaced and she asked if that was high. I told her that right now not really and I asked her if she got the same going rate for a cut ($25.00) as the other barbers and she said yes. "I'll tell you what... If you are game how about you cut my hair next time and I'll trade you. Does 5 boxes of 9mm sound fair?" She was stunned and said yes! I have a (very small) amount to spare but I really want her to enjoying shooting (Good for all of us!) and be safe. I'll probably sneak in a box of Federal HST 9mm +P too. It's the least I can do...Supply and demand plus new gun owners that don’t know they are overpaying.
At these prices no one will be shooting much
