Hey everyoneđź‘‹

I was wondering if Harris bipods are worth their money or would Harris clones do the job? If Harris clones would not do the job, are their any specific part/s of the clones that does not work properly/adequately or is it just the general lack of quality?

The Harris barely does its job

The knockoff does about 50% of that

Search the forums. Lots of great discussions on bipods and the benefits to going with an atlas, for example, over a Harris.

Harris still does its job. Others just do it better

Did fine for the 10 years was in army. Granted I prefer better bipod now, the Harris will do if thats all they can afford.

if Atlas is too rich for you, ( it is for me, I have 5 bi-podded rifles), you might look at GG&G. I bought 3 of the 1125's for $90 each. They seem pretty solid.

I get the OP's question, Harris is unsophisticated springs and metal tubes- the knock offs are unsophisticated springs and metal tubes- how different could they be?
I have a Harris too, and it might be a bit unevenly made, but it supports my rifle solidly- millions of shooters do very well indeed with them.

Don't ask about IOR scopes though....

Right

That’s the part where I stated the Harris still does its job others just do it better

I own:
5 Harris (6-9, 2X 9-13, 2X 13.5-27)

1 Harris knockoff (Walmart from 15 years ago)

1 Atlas Cal Gen 2

1 GGG (Came with my 50 cal and that’s all I use it for)

The Harris does a fine job. Especially for a hunting bipod. The Atlas is a better bipod as far as build quality, squaring up with the rifle and overall ruggedness. Also has a solid QD for picatinny on the atlas vs stud mount on Harris. But cost way more than a Harris

Theres plenty of threads comparing bipods and plenty where lowlight gives his $.02 on what to get and why if the OP wants to research the benefits to see if they’re worth it to him

To directly answer the OP question. Get the Harris. The leg snapped off on my Wally World knock off in less than a year. My Harris (9-13) made it about 10 years before a nut loosened up and the leg popped off landing the rifle in the dirt.

The Harris is better and worth the money over the knockoff from my experience

I believe my knockoff was a Stoney Point. Not sure how the blackhawks or others out currently hold up

My primary Harris bipods I use are the 6-9 and 9-13

I agree with you. Harris will do if thats all one can afford, but mech better ones out there. Don't buy fake anything bipod as in my opinion Chineseium and firearms parts don't belong in same place. belong

My preference on the Harris is the 9-13 with cant and leg knotch. Add a pod loc so you can tighten the cant on the bipod

This in a 9-13 is what I use most

Hello, I see you're in South Africa and I have no idea what bipods are available there, so I'll say that the Harris would be worth the extra cost over clones because of product support if anything were to go wrong.

Is there anything specific wrong with the harris or are other bipods more feature rich?
for basic shooting off a table or prone on a relatively flat platform, a harris works fine.
models with legs that pivot 45 degrees add flexibility in less ideal positions.
also the ability to swap out feet for spikes or sleds might be beneficial in some conditions,
for loose dirt or gravel, i like spiked feet.

I hate the magpul bipod with an uncommon passion after being recommended by a friend to get one. The harris isn't exactly mindblowing but its still much better than that thing.
My gunsmith has one on his shelf just to show people why not to buy it LOL Guess someone ordered it and just paid like 10 bucks towards it then never showed back up and he sure as shit aint gonna use it.

@Bob Cutless harris is at the low end for bipods so most will think you are joking. But they work fine.

Get what you can for your budget, just try to avoid chinese knock offs.
Harris
Magpul
UTG
GGG
ATLAS
TBAC
whatever...
The more you spend the better and more stable bipod you get.
I have 2 magpuls and do just fine. A better one is just not a priority. Some day I'll come across a deal and splurge.

Go with harris, dont cheap out on the chinese crap. I like my harris almost as much as I like my atlas’s. That being said i threw an area 419 adapter on my harris to run an adm picatiny clamp, i threw a podlock on it and a set of mmw spiked feet which has put it in the same price range as an atlas

The Harris, if you can’t afford an Atlas. I have a Harris. Used for for over 10 years and still looks and works like brand new. That said, it has two issues:

1) assuming you get the model with cant capability, which is a must, you’ll need an additional part to lock down the cant adjustment.

2) and there is no easy way to solve this, the rubber feet rotate. On hard surfaces the bipod slides forward when you try to load it.

After ten years I finally had enough and went to an Atlas CAL. I make the same mistake a lot of other people make. I’d buy something that I knew not to be the best, then later on ended up buying the best anyway. Soooo, I spent money for the best PLUS the money I spent on the not as good. An expensive proposition. Did that with tripods too! In my older years I’ve changed that and end up saving a LOT of money.

Go for the Harris if your budget is light. The chinse knock offs break easily and will have issues with the legs folding up on them because the leg cant is off.

Another option is Versa-Pod. I have two of there low budget ones and they work fine, but are heavy.
