Great pics! Love some of those boats.. But never got the urge. The only people crazier than old car people are wood boat people.

And the only people crazier than wood boat people are vintage airplane people.

It's nice to have two levels of crazy above you. Gives you goals.

That green water looks like a good place to catch a dose of squam.

I live on the lake here but most boats here are wakeboard boat with towers, cigarette boats, bass boats, runabouts, etc. Be neat to see some wooden Elvis Presley boats with V8s and American flags.

Kind of useless for our boat needs - jumping out, swimming, fishing, tubing - but great "transportation" for exploring in a more civilized manner.

I've got a shirt tail relative in SW PA on the Allegheny river who collects and rebuilds old Chris Crafts and Gar Woods. He even made his own steam kettle for bending the hull boards. It's definitely a labor of love.

Some dude was loading a 50s Penn Yan into the marina as we were leaving. Not a 100 percent resto but beautiful....looked a lot like this...

I love the look of that straight down bow line that rounds to the keel, and than the swept stern that folds over.

Dont know the real nautical architect terms but those are mine.

Maybe @308pirate can school us.

One thing about that lake is that it is a landmine of prop eating death.

The big lake has a bunch of big fingers that can falsley confuse you into thinking you are on the main body of water but in fact you are entering a dead end.

Mrs pmclaine womanned the helm while I read the chart and navigated from hazard to hazard. The hazard bouys being the best reference for location.

I was pretty happy we didnt do this...

Tumblehome....

tumblehome is an ancient style feature that
was origianally developed for war vessels as
protection against boarding....ie the attackers
couldnt come directly over the rail to gain
entrance to the boat, they had to fight their
way across a very slippery expanse that would
be slobbered with oil before their arrival!

dry doc is right, pirates attempting to ply their trade would "tumble home (to the sea)" boarding another vessel.


I must have a boat with Tumblehome if I ever own a boat. Its a real sucky feature for all other purposes because you would have to drag shit over the feature to pull into the boat but for the historical origin I love it.
