I usually get billet. I was just sharing a deal on some cheap receivers. Always good to have el cheapos to share when needed.

When it comes to ARs that I plan to shoot more than look at, who the hell cares? Did you buy the rifle to stare at, or did you buy it to go drag through the dirt, rocks, and mud and win matches with/hunt with/boog with/whatever?? I look at my wife, but I shoot my guns. I have an ugly ass AR w/ old MOE furniture, but guess what? I don’t care because it flat shoots.

Why get a forged receiver when a beautiful billet one is a fraction more?

tacticool folks are funny, like look how fucked up my rifle looks, it’s like when having jeans with tons of holes was a trend.

I mean shit happens, but when I read and look at some firearms I’m like WTF, especially the pre kicked down the driveway guns, saw a couple new sigs with a “destressed” finish.

Distressed finish is gay as hell. The distressed look is earned.

True, true. It’s absolutely your money, so buy what you like! It just always make me chuckle when a run of the mill AR looks perfect, because I know it’s babied and probably not actually used much.

IMO, I don’t buy guns to collect right now, as I can’t afford to. When the day comes that I can, then sure I’ll baby a few, but they’ll be standouts you can’t get anymore like an HK P7, Sig P228, or some unissues milsurps or something. But for an AR I can go build or buy tomorrow, I’m in the “why bother” camp. Run it and let it earn some stripes (and not by throwing it down your driveway, LOL)!

True. Some mag well wear or holster wear and the like is fine, but the concept of beating the shit out a gun being a tactical thing, like it looks like you were using it to pound in circus tent stakes just doesn’t impress me.

The only ZEV receivers I'm interested in are the old Mega billet sets. Mark them down to $250 like when Brownells blew them out a few years ago and I'll buy more. I bought BCM blem uppers this year for $80 and those, in my experience, are excellent uppers. ZEV forged lowers are on par with Anderson.
