Seems like there's not enough of anything going around lately. Now there's a natioinal shortage of snow plow drivers. Who would have thunk it....

In Ohio they are for the most part seasonal jobs. Meaning after April they kick you to the curb. No benefits, no security, they say there is a hiring freeze on permanent workers because of covid. If they offered people a REAL job they might have better luck.

My BIL works for the state here. They do county road building (99% gravel) in the summer, and maintenance on equipment and plow in the winter. It's a good gig with ok pay and excellent benefits.

They can't get enough people working. He had a class b, and they had him take a state truck and take the class a test to get him in the snowplow.

He mentioned the other day that new class a licenses will require a federally approved class and lessons. So they're doubling down on the driver shortage by creating another hurdle to starting out in the field.
