i've tried ammseek but the top three "affordable choices" seem to jack up the shipping, one place wanted 120$ vs 50 or 60$ at the others. plus i had never heard of any of them. 2 of them had the exact same website format which made my paranoia crank up. i was thinking of using a smaller shop but they are so hard to find. might as well support a new business if possible. just getting a full case or 1/2 a case of hornady varmint express 6.5cm so it's not like a big order or anything

can anyone recommend a smaller store that may need business with the holidays coming up? maybe a long time member on here who has opened a new store? online or brick and mortar, doesn't matter.

went to the "resources" tab on here to look for forum sponsers but nothing is jumping out

I’ve tried my luck with a wide variety of the sketchy online dropshippers beloved by ammoseek (and sister site Gun.Deals). Amazingly I haven’t gotten burned yet, but I only stick to sites with a physical address and a phone number. Lots of low price/high shipping games to come up at the top of the list.

Of all said sketchy drop shippers, I’ve had the best luck with Locked Loaded in the past - they’re some small gun store in IL that drop ships below MAP. It shows up when it shows up, but man it’s always shown up from them (for me in the past, YMMV).

what's up with all the shippers wanting to add insurance for extra $. i was always under the impression, if i buy from a business, i expect them to make sure stuff arrives. weird. seems like a new trend.
i would probably guess that significantly increasing theft has resulted in increased insurance costs?

SG Ammo is always good I buy a lot from them, have been getting some IMI 77 gr 556 from Green Country Ammo decent price for 500 case and shipping is decent too, I think they are a drop ship operation? I've got a few cases from them and everything went off without a hitch. Outdoor Limited is OK. Champs is where I get most of my 22 ammo.

I have bought from De Leon’s pharmacy that I found on ammoseek. One of the only places that had eley in stock during covid. They had an issue with a small order I placed and he sent me the ammo but refunded the order. It was a self caught issue, I didn’t even have time to make a complaint. His prices on 6 arc make it worthwhile for me to buy and ship versus picking up locally.

Never heard of them. Now I have a decent place that I can pick up from locally. Layton is next town to me.

I would pick a local place, make an online order and then demand an in person pickup but refuse to give them your real name or any contact info. Then come here to bitch when they won’t work with you.

But also, SG or Beebe.

I ordered 9mm HST for a lower price than anywhere else I could find with free shipping from recoil gunworks a few weeks ago. I got it in less than a week. I've also had good experience with SGammo, TargetsportsUSA, and bone frog gun club...when they have what I need in stock, of course.

Ammoseek is where I start. But a few shops like Locked and Loaded are not listed there.

A few shops still don’t charge sales tax, so that’s something to consider as well. I usually grab the price, shipping and tax and enter that into a spreadsheet to track who has the best price. Depressing to look back at the prices paid in 18, 19 and 20 to see how much it has increased.

At one time you could apply an Active Junky discount to ammo purchases with Cabela’s and other stores. But I think that is no longer the norm.

I found what I thought was a decent deal on some Hornady AG 6.5. But even after a week, the order has not shipped.

i have also noticed that some places charge sales tax and some don't. I live in a place where we don't have state income tax but the sales tax, property tax, and insurance rates are insanely high so no state income tax is not all that great. our sales tax is about 9%.
but i placed an order, hoping it ships relatively soon.

I placed an order with them on Nov 4th 2024. Received an order confirmation email and my CC was charged the same day..

Now Dec 17th and I have received no further communication from them. Tried calling and all you get is a recorded message stating that, "they will not answer or respond to calls and that all communication should be via email". I have sent two emails (received confirmation they received both) inquiring about the status of my order but have had no reply to either. I'm getting ready to have my CC do a charge back due to fraud.

This is the new scam I have been warning about.

Some companies like Triadtactical.com want you to deal with a 3rd party if there is any issue.

I ship to customers daily and insurance is included in shipping, even when I offer “free shipping”. I either self insure or buy insurance at time of making the label. Most services ups, usps and fedex offer $100 for no extra fee. Why should the customer be burdened with this? I choose the shipper, I package it, I put the label on it. I engage in best practices to protect that package.

Companies that pull this crap, become companies of last resort for me and the industry/consumer as a whole should be pushing back on this. The more and more this is put up with, the more and more it will become the norm.

I'm an ardent supporter of SGammo, used them all for 40 years (former FFL) so I understand the business. Everyone is free to use whatever platform they locate caliber, price and availability. SG ammo is just one of the top companies I use but check a few others. But consistently Sam Gabbert has the best selection, price and shipping I've found.

I too have noticed this Holliday and I'm not a fan. I will not support this either. The shipper is responsible to get my purchase delivered, if the shipper doesn't deliver I don't consider that MY issue but theirs. I got scammed as you say by a company that used the "Route" deal and shipped an item that should have been next day via ground. Total BS and wasted $50. I won't be using this from now on.

It is up to consumers not to tolerate this crap, free market.
I always use target sports USA. I have saved several thousand dollars with their $100 a year ammo+ subscription - which also gives me free shipping on every order.

I recently got 1000 rounds of 9mm for about 213 (steel case) to my door two days later.
I had a similar deal with Brownells for several years. Pay annual fee and get free 2 day shipping (plus some other perks that never materialized)

First they suddenly switched from 2 day to Ground service. When I complained they tried to maintain it was a 2 day service. I ship every day. I damn well know the difference between “2nd day” guaranteed two day air service and un-guaranteed 2-3 day ground service. 2nd day denotes the former not the latter and was always what I had for several years.

Then they decided that free 2nd day shipping did not include insurance and started charging extra for that.

Both of these changes happened mid-year with no notice and no change to their website explaining the details of the plan. Crooks…..

Had they made these changes at plan renewal, and changed the website, I would have said ok. But to do it mid term just wasn’t right. Suffice to say I don’t shop at Brownells any more unless it is something I really need and can’t get elsewhere.

I’ll have to look into target sports…..

I think they used to call it prime - but Amazon probably had something to say about that - so now it's called ammo+

Screenshot_20241219-205436.png

I've saved 1800 in the last 3 years with ammo+

Not entirely sure how they calculate that but it's def paid for the $100 / year fee several times over.

I always buy 1000+ rounds at a time. I go thru and find who has the best price with low/free shipping and does NOT charge sales tax. I will not order from them if they charge tax. I’ve had good luck with De Leon, Top Gun Ammo, and Maryland Munitions (MMI Ammo).

SGAMMO for consistency and quality service!
As posted above purchase case lots.
Always purchase handgun ammo in 50 rnd boxes per case.
It is Law Enforcement ammo turned back in for various reasons such as expiration date.
AMMOSEEK can be your friend but you must do your diligence before ordering from a source you don’t know.
I really have had no significant problems in ordering over the internet for 30 years.

Ditto. I stopped ordering from Brownells because of shipping bs.

Another thing I am noticing, suddenly since the election a ton of stuff that has been dropping that has been out of stock for ages. My email box has been lit up.

The industry has been holding back, keeping prices up, counting on Trump to lose…..

I've used and have been very happy with SG Ammo, never had any problems.

I recently found "Bulk Munitions" and have been very happy with them. Their shipping charges seem to be very reasonable. They do offer the option of "shipping insurance". I understand that. The small guys are running on very tight profit margins and can't afford to have to cover the cost of lost or damaged shipments. It's up to you as to whether you want to roll the dice in regard to lost or damaged shipments.

Bulk Munitions is small, family owned and they donate 10% of their profits to Christian and Pro 2A causes; "At least 10% of profits are donated to Christian-based, 2A-Supporting Non-Profits".

I'd probably buy from Bulk Munitions for my next purchase as I like their approach to things.

Myself and a coworker have ordered from them in the past but recently had issues with stuff never showing up. Hard, if not impossible to get ahold of too. We have decided to order elsewhere at this point.

I placed an order with BeeBe. They charged my card right away and then silence. Calls get a recorded message that they will only reply via email. Well after several months and emails with no reply I did a charge back on my card. Their site is no longer there now.

Happened to me as well when I travelled through there way back in 2010

As someone else mentioned you need to use the filter on ammoseek (modify options) and pick CF/F shipping.
Conditional free shipping and free shipping. Or even the 8 level and better is OK.

SGammo has done some things, emails are annoying, etc.
But I still end up using them a lot.

If you shoot any type of decent volume, do yourself a favor and get a membership with target sports USA. It’s like Amazon prime but for ammo. Free shipping with membership, and they discount the ammo a little bit. Routinely is cheaper than anywhere else I can find, sometimes MUCH cheaper

Palmetto State Armory has really become my go to place. AAC 77gr OTC sometimes on sale for .50/round. Shipping is usually pretty cheap as well. Yes, it's a little more expensive than PMC, Privi Part., etc. but worth the extra nickel IMHO.

Agree SG Ammo is also great to deal with.

Used to use Target Sports USA, particularly when I lived in a communist state that most companies wouldn't ship into. I feel like their prices have gone up in the last couple of years.

Midway USA often carries IMI XM193, which I've always been partial to. Worthwhile if you can find it on sale. Also, if you register, they give you a discount code on your birthday.

I just reread the OP looking for 6.5 specific AAC from PSA may be the best cost for the performance. A friend was seeing SD’s of 10-12 and .75ish MOA out of a bolt gun.

I’m going to test some out of a gas gun to see how it runs and can report back
