Appearing the career politicians think that $85 oil is cheap and the consumers have no reason to complain.
If $85 oil is cheap enough for the consumer it's cheap enough to use to refill the Strategic Oil Storage.

Oil prices settle at three-week low with U.S. supplies up a fourth week in a row

Oil futures declined on Wednesday for a third straight session, with prices falling to their lowest in three weeks.
Analysts attributed the weakness to a fourth straight weekly climb in U.S. crude inventories, as well as concerns about the outlook for China’s energy demand in the wake of recent economic data.

Renewable diesel glut hits US refiner profits, threatens nascent industry

NEW YORK, May 13 (Reuters) - A rush by U.S. fuel makers to recalibrate their plants to produce renewable diesel has created a supply glut for low-emissions biofuels, hammering profit margins for refiners and threatening to impede a young industry.
Turmoil in the biomass-based diesel sector, an umbrella term for renewable diesel and biodiesel, could become a roadblock to future investments in biofuels, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said this year. That could potentially stall the transition away from traditional fossil fuels.

Some producers of these biofuels have already shuttered plants this year, and industry participants say more are set to go out of business before the year's end.

$80 oil is no longer "cheap oil".

U.S. crude oil prices pushed past $80 on Friday, with the global benchmark Brent crude also enjoying its first weekly gain since mid-April on Chinese industrial output data and U.S. consumer prices, both of which came in more favorably than anticipated for April.
On Friday at 4:20 p.m. ET, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was trading a penny shy of $80, and had surpassed $80 earlier in the afternoon. Brent crude was trading at $83.91, up 0.77% on the day.
The April U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) released on Wednesday showed a 0.3% increase from March, lower than the Dow Jones estimate of 0.4%. This data lent more optimism to the potential for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, with some speculating that rate cuts could start as early as September, according to CNBC.
Also boosting oil prices was Chinese economic data released earlier on Friday. Official data cited by Reuters showed China’s industrial output growing 6.7% year-on-year in April, up from 4.5% in March and beating expectations of a Reuters poll of analysts of 5.5%.
Both sets of economic data provide strong tailwinds for oil demand.

Oil extends losses as strong dollar weighs on commodities markets

SINGAPORE, June 24 (Reuters) - Oil prices fell in early Asian trade on Monday for a second straight session, weighed down by a stronger dollar after concerns of higher-for-longer interest rates resurfaced and cooled investors' risk appetite.
Brent crude futures slid 40 cents, or 0.5%, to $84.84 a barrel by 0036 GMT, after settling down 0.6% on Friday. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures were at $80.34 a barrel, down 39 cents, or 0.5%.

"The U.S. dollar has opened bid this morning and appears to have broken higher following better U.S. PMI data on Friday night and political concerns ahead of the French election," said Tony Sycamore, a Sydney-based markets analyst at IG.
A stronger greenback makes dollar-denominated commodities less attractive for holders of other currencies.
However, both benchmark crude contracts gained about 3% last week on signs of stronger oil products demand in the U.S., world's largest consumer, and as OPEC+ cuts kept supply in check.
