Penguins are a group of aquatic flightless birds from the family Spheniscidae of the order Sphenisciformes. But they can be pretty active(swimming) a lot of inter-muscular fat doesn’t usually go along with an active animal. It also wouldn’t insulate very well scattered about, a thick outer layer on the other hand.
You know they don’t have any wear because they @threadcutter doesn’t offer much resistance.

I think the point was that penguin fat was not needed for arctic warmth, not that they weren't fat. Because Penguins don't live in the Arctic.
They are also not limited to cold water, there is an active population in n Sydney Harbor
