Hodgdon's .308win subsonic titegroup load

Re: Hodgdon's .308win subsonic titegroup load

Titegroup is a good powder, and is insensitive to case position. It is one of the most suitable pistol powders for subsonic 308 loading.

Also, you may look into using Trailboss. It is nearly as fast-burning, but a subsonic powder charge fills the case much more than others.

Re: Hodgdon's .308win subsonic titegroup load

If titegroup is a published load, id trust it. But my intuition says wow! Awful fast for a rifle. I use 5.5gr TG for my 185gr .45 loads... the case will hold 15gr. 8 gr in a 308 case isn't going to take up much space.

Re: Hodgdon's .308win subsonic titegroup load

I tried TB with good results, But I wanted a bigger bullet(220 instead of a 150-168) I found that in order to get a 220 to get up to speed I had to compress the load AND it was still only doing 900ish. So I moved to Clays, my first loads were dangerously slow (600fps) but I worked up to 10.5 gr and have a perfect 1000-1050fps with a 220gr RN. Very powerful and pretty accurate too, have shot them out to 300yds with 2moa groups.

Yep just made another 100 the other night loads are 5.5gr for the 168gr bthp 980fps/ 5gr for 150gr fmj 950fps. they shoot great and as stated above the powder is insensitive to case position. dont start off with 8gr

Was that in a bolt action or semi auto platform???
I am looking for a good subsonic load using 220gr sierra match king.
Thanks

And... I'm gonna revive this 13 year old thread to chime in....

I just loaded up a dozen rounds using this load. Except I accidentally grabbed 178 ELDX insted of the 168 Sierra BTHP. I loaded 8.0gr to a COAL of 2.800".

F*ck it. Gonna shoot them with a chrono. I'm guessing it'll be around 950 fps and everything will be fine. There's a 180gr load listed that calls for 8.5 gr of Titegroup so I doubt it'll kill me. Both loads are under 25k psi as published. If you don't hear from me, I blew my face off and I'm dead. :)

Pretty typical stuff for the experimentally minded folks and those afflicted by shortages lol.

Works well! I'd prefer cast bullets always so it's harder to stick them in the barrel.

Nice... thanks for the bookmark! I see some 300gr 45-70 loads I want to try on that site.
