Your PVA prefit experience

You are working on my Remington 5R308 conversion to 65 Creedmoor right now. I really enjoyed speaking with you and you made everything easy. I'm glad I saw this because I'm going to have you do my 223 as well, but I think I'll wait till freedom from The Crown day.
Tried to send you a PM but not able to, whats up? Have a question.

I bet the taperless 0.750 would be lighter than a proof sendero at that length.

Edit: Using pac-nor's barrel weight calculator, with a 20" 308 bore, it gave me a barrel weight of just under 2# 11 ounces for the 750 taperless. Proof's 20" tikka 308 prefit says 2# 7 ounces. Assuming the pac-nor calc is just the blank, once the material is removed cutting tennon threads, chamber, and muzzle threads they should be very close.

750 taperless 6 creed 18” tikka prefit w/ 5/8 muzzle threads = 2# 6.5ounces

My Defiance AnTi X prefit. 18” Osprey 6 CM, spiral fluted. Same exact weight as Wind Gypsy’s. I’m super happy with the weight, just an observation. This will be my hunting barrel and will see minimal rounds after getting the load developed, as the 20” Light Palma will still be in use as the trainer. Up for 425 rounds on it so far.

Larger tennon for your action must offset the fluting weight loss.

damn I placed my order last week, didn't think about a group buy lol. excited to see how the pva standard 6 creed reamer shoots. or would you suggest the short reamer and your solids for BR(never tried solids) got a bench rest match in mind in jackson. Going to test her out with some 105s 108s 109s 110s 115s to see what she prefers for starters.

Stick with the standard one for the bullets you're using. The short FB is for things like 95's and 87's

Doing a July GB again?
Freedom From The Crown sale starts July 1 and runs through July 10. It does not include every chamber and barrel option just to keep things streamlined but for the bulk of what folks shoot these days there will be a discount code.

Couple questions Bohem I tried to email your CS guy through the site, no response this week. Anyway are your .22 steel barrels out of stock? I’m looking into having a .223 ackley done. Thanks

Ben's on vacation this past week and I got the surprise visit from ATF IOI's for our annual inspections at both FFL locations this week so I haven't been doing anything except answering the phone and dealing with the ATF requirements. We have blanks and we can make you a 223 AI. It's not going to be part of the sale that kicks off tomorrow, but we can do it.

The sale code is "FFTC2024". I've checked it several times and it works, if you have issues with it please double check the spelling and capitalization.

Whats the current lead times of a prefit ordered during the 4th sale? Still at 2 weeks if ordered the expedite option? Just to excited to get a barrel for my new build! Haha
We are still maintaining the 2wk rush option for non-sale barrels. If you put it in today it's going to make the lead time guarantee.

Finally spun on my .750 taperless tikka prefit over the weekend. The shank is larger than the face of the tikka action and does not fit in the barrel channel of my stock. It isn't a big deal to remove some material from the stock but matching the face dimension and factory shank diameter would be ideal IMO from a stock fit and aesthetics standpoint. This was in a rokstok (by stockys) but @Lawnboi indicated that manners and micky tikka inlets are likely also tight in this area unless specified otherwise.

From the contour page on the website it looks like standard tikka shank dimension for shouldered prefits is 1.160", factory tikka tennons are 1.125 i believe.

I weighed the existing benchmark #4 barrel i've been shooting while i had it off and it was within a half once of the PVA 0.750 taperless - Both are 18" 6 creed w/ 5/8 threads. Pretty cool.

Just screwed on my long, heavy 223 prefit. I ended up using my spare 223 bolt, bought a bare stripped action, and screwed it all together.

Checked it and it headspaced perfect. Tikka and pva have it figured out.

Havnt needed to break out a field gauge yet in 4 prefits on 3 different actions.

Yup if PVA made it I don’t worry about headspace either. All mine have been on. I got two 6 Creed barrels a few months apart and they are the same.

I just recieved my custom osprey barrel. only ordered a month and a half ago. will install and shoot Thursday and maybe post a Pic. seems to be exactly what I ordered and even faster than everything else came in. communication was nice when I made something unclear. good people, fun to do business with, like the marketing strategy a lot.

Factory Tikka shanks vary from contour to contour and seem to vary over the years. I have a couple of Tikkas personally that have been as small as 1.135 and as large as 1.170, we have used 1.160 as the standard size for our Tikka shouldered prefits since 2019.
My PVA prefit for a tl3 short is in 300wsm. That group is five shots after a clean cold bore. Only 35 rds down the barrel
Good Lord!

Are the barrels hand lapped? And button or cut? Because I scoped it and it is a beautiful barrel. Definitely better looking then the douglas I have for this build. Switch to this when I got it. No regrets!!!

@bohem

Big fan, have several PVA barrels and a 223AI about to be shipped over to get rebarelled. I am on the hunt for an 18” 6.5CM for an Origin (or TL3 with a Hunts recoil lug). Looks like I missed all the prefits that were built in stock. Any ETA on when a new batch will be coming through?

I really want to make a sassy comment about the misspelling on the label… :geek:

Josh is a stand-up guy who is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Every barrel I’ve gotten from them has been amazing and they remain my first choice for barrels in the future.

I haven’t gotten an Osprey yet but it probably won’t be long.

My barrel is a 7PRC, 20", Osprey blank, 3B contour, fluted, threaded, prefit for Terminus Kratos, cerakoted

Not super light, came in at 50.6oz (3lbs 2.6oz).

Haven't tried match bullets yet, but during load dev for hunting season it put 5 shots into 0.455" with Barnes LRX 168gn through a suppressor. Has every indication that that's not a fluke.

The only thing I think I don't like (other than wishing it could magically be lighter) is the laser marking is on the bore end and ended upside down after install. :)

I must be the only one who hasnt had much luck with my Osprey - a 22GT prefit for my CDG.

I’ve tried 3 powders, 6 different projectiles (75, 80, 88 ELDms, 80 and 90SMKs, 85.5 Bergers), and cant get this thing to shoot with any consistency at all. .5” best group, 1.5” for next group – probably averaging out over 1moa for the 500+ rounds I’ve spent trying to get it to shoot so far. At this point I’ve nearly fired as much lead into the dirt as I’m willing to, in the aim of getting this shooting.

I’ve messaged a few of the lads on the Hide with the22gt pre-fits for the CDG who seem to be having better luck than me, but nothing that has worked for them has worked for me. Tried running her clean, fouled, jumped and jammed. No carbon ring. Hell I even bedded this Matrix Pro to try and get it to shoot. I’ve swapped the barrel over to the 6Dasher from my other CDG, and it shoots lights out on this setup too - so Ive eliminated every other variable. I cant really find anything else bar the barrel that I can point my finger at.

At this point Im pulling it off and sitting it on the shelf. If I was in the states Id offer it up for anyone to tinker with if they were up for the challenge. I think this is the first out of 30-something custom barrels Ive given up on.

At the end of the day though, shit happens, sometimes things dont work out - it is what it is.

I have a 22GT PVA CDG prefit for sale in the PX section. No accuracy issues and took home a 1st place with it.

Did you contact PVA? That is definitely not the norm for the Ospreys but every barrel company can have a dud.

I got a 223 barrel from the CDM prefit sale they had earlier this year. 24" M24 contour with no fluting or threading. After break-in according to their instructions, it shot a 0.320 MOA 4 round group at 100 yards (the fifth shot was off but I know that was me...last round of the day and I hurried the trigger pull). This was using Sierra 77gr "Competition" factory rounds. Ruger American action on an MDT Oryx chassis. Planning on shooting it out to 550 yards this week. Super happy with the results!
