LMT .308 MWS

Took my 16” mws out to some distance today. Setup isn’t the best with a pst 1-6, but I was shooting 168 hornady HPBT hand loads, G national match trigger, stock lmt everything else. Prior to this I had shot to 300 on steel so I knew my hold over for that distance. I then walked about 6 rounds in at 700 until I found my hold. I then went 9/10 on a 24x24 plate. I tried at 1k at the same size target and could only make one impact out of 10.

For the first time ever shooting that far I am happy with myself and the rifle the optic wasn’t doing me any favors and I’ll most likely keep it at 700 and in where it excels.

Just listed in the px:

Any plans on making partial (3"-4") sections avaliable? I'd like to clip into a tripod but also be able to keep my foregrip comfortable.
Seekins recently released these “side ways” Arca rails. Believe it or not it’s totally manageable in a RRS bh50 or Anvil. Very impressed. Don’t believe they are on their website yet. Give them a call.

My poverty pony got a buff. I know it's not an MWS so I'm hoping not to get shamed too much but here's the new 13.25 MRP upper. The plan is to build an SPR with an 18" barrel but Ridgeline had the used 16" for just $20ish more than just the upper. I'll probably have it chopped to 13.9" and keep going down the SPR path.

ETA: barrel was very hard to seat, is this normal?

Went out and shot the lm8 13.5ss with sandman s. Fired around 150 rounds all suppressed no issues gun is factory. Got down to the last 2 mags and stovepipes every other round. 2 different mags and different ammo. Interesting that it ran for that long before that issue. Great accuracy though. Really likes the 130gr Speer

That sounds similar to my experience. My best guess is the chamber getting dirty subs causing sticky extraction. Xh buffer seemed to extend the time until failure and brushing the chamber would prevent it or clear it up.

I had ran slip 2000 for years till my 3gun buddy who shoots way more than me turned me on to Lucas. But i was curious about the large frame cause of all the extra fowling
My father in law got me a test pack of the Lucas. I’ll have to give it a go. They were handing it out at a meeting for off road racing

How’s it run with Pmags?
I haven't run it with PMags at all yet, I'm going to play around with lubricants and see if that resolves my magazine feeding issues before I test PMags.

Just ordered some Lucas gun oil for mine.

What lube does everyone use?

I ran Lucas in the gun before/during the match I shot, and on a few other rifles, and I noticed that very dirty/high pressure (suppressed) guns don't seem to like the Lucas (at least in my findings). It dries pretty quickly, or is reduced to a thick sticky sludge with all of the carbon and heat. I'm going to use some LSA (grease based, for high temperature/machine guns) next time I run a bunch of rounds through it in a day.

Interesting that’s all I’ve shot suppressed. I noticed Cody curry on his channel uses some red looking grease is that it?

Yes even suppressed. It’s over gassed anyway. I run a SC Omega with ASR mount.
Same. Sprinco red and a brt 50/50 tube now has mine kicking cases out at 2:30-3:00 with fgmm 168's and solid 2:30 territory with hornady black 168 amax.

I've yet to shoot it til it fouled up. Probably only 100-150 rounds through it before cleaning each time. Lucas oil.

I was on the fence between a Sandman S and SF RC2, but ended up with the SF.

How does the Sandman sound on the MWS?

18” barrel with a 762rc2 is pretty dirty, but not significantly different than any other gasser running suppressed. It’s all stock.

With a Thunderbeast Ultra 9, it was pretty violent towards the brass. Absolutely destroyed it

My opinion of the sandman definitely seems to be the minority anymore. I think it does really well on sound and it’s my favorite with my 10.3 556. I also notice a difference in feel with the e-brake. On the lmt I don’t get gassed out either. I have not shot a rc2 yet.

I have 13.5 (P&W ATF) MARS-H + RC2. bought the BRT ez tune gas stuff recommended for the set up (smaller diameter tube and the XH(#3?) buffer spring (whatever they recommended for the set up).

havent had 1 failure to feed using PMags, though I haven't shot it past 200 consecutive rounds without cleaning. It does sling the brass but I don't think the brass is wrecked at all (I don't reload). Oh using primarily Federal 185 Juggs as well as normal M80 ball (have shot without suppressor <100rds with zero issues as well.

I hope Im not jinxing myself!

Possibly. One of the main things when designing them was still keeping the foregrip comfortable even with the full length versions. Because of their slim profile, you hardly notice them there and it barely changes the feel of the rail.

Mines a 20inch 6.5. BRT FULL suppressed gas tube, H3 Buffer, Knights 762 PRG can. I run 140 ELD-m reloads through it, Hornaday 140 BTHP, whatever I stick in it it just runs. Ejection 4pm, very soft with the PRG. Very Reliable.

So i never got my LMT cycling without the can with the Seekins select adjustable. Even opened it up to the point the detent came out and i had to slightly put it back in. Do y’all think it’s the H3 buffer or just the so much back pressure exhibited from the surefire that the select agb isn’t able to accommodate the range?

With the can it’s ejecting at 4 o’clock. Plan to move to a PSR7 which should have less back pressure.

Is this the barrel that you had chopped? If so, it may be a dwell issue (too short) while running unsuppressed. You may have to compensate by opening up the gas port to run unsuppressed, but this can lead to cascading problems when running a high back pressure suppressor, particularly if the Seekins AGB lever does not have enough throw to restrict gas flow enough while suppressed. Measuring the distance from the gas port (or the gas journal shoulder) to the muzzle, and the gas port diameter if possible, would help.

Yup it is. I mean if I’m being honest I’ll rarely if ever run it unsuppressed. Much like my mk12. Was just hopeful i could have it run with both on the switch of a lever.

So, how far from the muzzle to the gas port ?

4 o'clock suppressed sounds pretty good. I'd lighten the buffer up and see what happens. But if it's always going to be suppressed, it sounds like it's dialed.

Can I get some suppressor recommendations for a 16” 308 Piston rifle I have inbound? Are these gassed properly out of the box? Wondering if a flow thru can or a higher back pressure can is the way to go on this one? Currently, the only thing I have that I can use out the gate is my Magnus SR. But I’d like to get a dedicated can for this rifle.

I have considered a Hux Flow 7.62 Ti, a Magnus S SR or Dominus SR, Surefire 7.62 RC2, and maybe a KAC QDC CRS PRG.

Should I be worried about using Titanium for this or any other hard use gasser? Someone told me the over day that Ti cans and high heat don’t mix…. Is that a real concern?
What kind of piston gun ?

my only experience has been with PWS, and only with a SiCo Omega. It needed a lower backpressure can for sure.

I would get a flow through or low back pressure can if the intention is to run it on a gasser. Granted you should be able to control most of that adjusting the short stroke piston so i would just give it a try with the magnus first before grabbing a new can.

Okay, so long story short, I bought an LMT MWS quad rail in 2017. Sold it a year later to help fund my wife’s engagement ring. (I don’t regret that decision, I got her the ring of her dreams and she is the kind of wife every man dreams of. She asks for very little and I’m glad she got the ring she wanted.)

Anyway, life got busy, work got crazy, kids, all the stuff. I have been out of the shooting world pretty well since about 2020. I have off and on always said I wanted another large frame AR, with the LMT being the top of my want list.

With current political stuff I decided if I was ever gonna get one, I better do it now. So I ordered a MARS-H 16” 308 from Titan Defense and am excited to get an LMT back in my hands.

So my question is, I’m wanting to set it up as a DMR rifle, as I already have a nice long range bolt gun. A DMR type setup, capable of 300-500ish yards would be perfect for coyotes in the fall while farming.

Since I have been out so long, my head is spinning as to what my best options are for scopes and suppressors.

For optics I’m looking at scopes in the 3-18ish power range. Two stand outs to me seem to be the Leupold MK4 or Eotech Vudu.

Suppressors is where I really get lost. I am kind of looking at the Q Thunder Chicken or Trash Panda, but I don’t really have a solid reason why other than one YouTube video I watched that was the can he had on his LMT. I’m wanting something that I can also put on my 5.56 ARs as well, so preferably not overly long or bulky. Just something to make it a reasonable amount quieter, and hopefully not make me eat too much gas.

When I first got into long range shooting at 17 years old, this site helped me out a lot. Now many years later I am once again feeling like a beginner asking for suggestions. So fire away!

Flow through cans seem to be the best for AR’s overall

I plan to get a NF ATACR 4-16 Mil-XT for my lmt eventually. I consider that one of the best dmr optics out there
