White oak armament accuracy

I haven’t noticed it coppering much, but then again, I’ve only got about 200 rounds through it.
I should think it doesn't then, you would really know by now.
I did notice the gas port looked like there might be a burr, but I’m not sure. I know my Bartlein (1300 rounds) does not look like this.
Is the Bart drilled through a land or groove?
I also found that the handguard was touching the gas block, and I have since corrected that issue.

I’m going on the assumption that the issues were with the handguard touching the gas block and it will shoot better now. I’m going to do a “put out or get out” test with it the next time I’ve at the range.
Lol "Put out or get out" done thought that a few times troubleshooting!

The Bartlein was made by CLE and they centered the gas port in a groove and beveled the port. It was impressiv.

Yup, that's top notch. There isn't a consensus on the gas port placed in the groove, but it sure makes sense to me. Less protrusion to misshapen a jacket sure sounds like a winner to me.

Your gas port look pretty good compared to others though. Am I seeing some gas block misalignment with the hole? Some gas blocks require .025 from the barrel shoulder. I use a bore scope to align mine.

Not a 5×5 but just got one of my carbines zeroed at 100and the barrel did well. 16" WOA midlength shooting 77gr Razorcore using a NF 2.5-10X24, average for 15 rounds is about .82". The 55 gr is PMC ball ammo and did about how you'd expect at 100.

I agree

It was made abundantly clear I was building uppers for sale and test firing them. Test fire for gas system check and then some for accuracy. I wasn't gonna accuracy test fire 30rnds a gun. It would have been great if someone would have clarified the .25 and .5 test fire groups number of rounds. Maybe you could have done that as a moderator, you know, somebody that is supposed to be a disinterested party to the matter. Try to resolve issues, not inflame them.

I would be most interested in hearing your upper assembly process, if you have time.

If this request is considered derailing @Rob01 let me know and I'll move it to a different thread.

As others have mentioned, try the black hills or federal. WO barrels have always been consistent for me. I’ve always considered aero to be quality budget receivers, but they aren’t on the level of your barrel. Bedding and truing the upper may help but check everything else for proper torque first. I generally use BCM upper receivers for my small frames and they have been good to me. It could be a number of things rather than the barrel. Keep us updated with more details and I’m sure we can narrow it down.

BCM makes great uppers. They are thermal fit which is the big difference between them and most (Aero)
I wish they offers an upper without the fwd assist.

The only thermal fit upper I could find without a fwd assist was the Vltor.

Mine hasn't been particularly impressive but recently has seemed to improve a little bit. 77s with 22.6gr AR comp.

I would like to see a little better but have only tried a couple powder charges and not messed with seating depth.

I am at Camp Perry now and White Oak has been here since Thursday.

John has a number of barrels for sale in six different price levels depending on the cost of the blank. The three most expensive are cut-rifled Krieger, Bartlein, and Brux.

He typically steers beginners and new shooters or high-volume precision shooters to his economy barrels from Wilson and Douglas because they will go through them faster due to more practices and matches before replacement.

My son just bought a spare Bartlein and John reminded him it's got a Wylde chamber while we shoot USAMU-length 5.56 loads

I sure there is, but the skill and experience of the white oak team I would expect would bring out the potential in them. I don’t believe WOA would let them out the door if they could not compete. Yes the Bartlein is a better crafted barrel it is also more consistent.

I would imagine there is a pretty large difference between the Bartlien tier barrels and the Wilsons.
I have what I assume is a Wilson based WOA barrel, as well as a known Wilson barrel on a R700 in 223. The WOA barrel shoots in the .7s, and the R700 will typically shoot in the .5s at 100 yards. The difference is probably me, and for an AR, that is perfectly acceptable for my uses.

My Bartlein based R700 in 223 has had a lot of work done to it and will shoot in the .2s

The only thing the CLE chamber shoots well in my experience is 77gr SMK s. I've found Wylde chambers to be less finicky
But it shoots the 77gr SMK tighter than any other chambering I've even seen, also don't forget TWIST RATE plays a large part as well.

It's true the CLE Match Chamber does like the 77gr SMK's in a 1-7.7 Twist, but it also favors the 55gr-60gr V-Max, 73gr Berg and 80gr SMK.

In my experience it definitely does seem to hate fuck ammo in just about everything < 50gr as well as 62gr, 75gr, 68gr

I have many, many cans of mk262. It shoots Hornady 75’s, Sierra 69’s well too. 73eld, 77rdf..ect. Don’t even waste your time. Although those suck in any gas gun in my experience.
A lot of people have noted the Wylde chamber shoots the 75gr Hornadys much better than the CLE chamber. That's why I made that statement. I can't confirm with 73's or 55's bc I don't shoot those bullets in precision gas guns. But the bias to 77 SMKs in the CLE chamber has been noted a lot on this forum. It does not shoot some of those other bullets as well as the Wylde chamber.

All of my WOA barrels are the Wylde chambers and they all love 77SMKs.
Ya, I don't get why someone would want the CLE chamber. I think it's just limiting. I'm betting it was designed specifically for 77SMKs in precision gas gun. But the Wylde already does that for you. I think it's just people jumping on a bandwagon who don't have experience with different chambers.

Haha. Tell that to the award winning shooters using the CLE chamber. Nothing wrong with the wylde chamber at all but the CLE imo is more accurate when hand loading but that’s just my experience over the last 15 years. YMMV

I agree, if I was ONLY going to shoot 77SMKs in competition, it would be my first choice.

The CLE is no compromise chamber for the 77, the Wylde adds additional freebore that allows it to be a more universal chamber that does most things really well. My new Bolt gun goes further with a Match chamber (even longer freebore .080 vs .060)

Wait, wait…

So you’re telling me the thing made to do one thing only does that one thing only better than the thing made to do more than one thing?

-Stan
I don't think we've confirmed it does it better. There's big competitions where people try to prove that. No one has presented data that confirms it. What we're saying is it doesn't do anything else as well as other things

Yes. I’ve had Frank make me them for over 10 years.

He's talking about John Hollinger of White Oak, and yes he will do a CLE Chamber in his Kreiger and Bartlein blanks.

Frank White of CLE hasn't turned any barrels in a few years.

Paul Craddock of Craddock Precision also offers the CLE chamber. I just received a 20" Bartlein Chrome Moly 1-7.7 Twist with the CLE chamber.

They do CLE in their house blanks too. Had them do it many times. Also, Paul makes wonderful stuff and is a stand up guy.

How does it shoot?

I haven't shot it yet, but it's a Craddock Bartlein sooooo im sure it will perform.

The barrel still needs to go to Cryo and cerakote. The Chrome Moly Bartlein is going to be a Data Collection and Comparison Barrel for the effectiveness of Cryo, SS Vs CM. The foundation that both barrels will be tested on will be the JP SCI-20.

I had mentioned in another thread that I would be willing conduct a POI shift test utilizing the JP SCI-20 Semi-Monolithic Upper and Handguard so this will be a "Three Birds one Stone" Evaluation also incorporating the Precision Armament Hypertap Muzzle Brake.

Jake.
