Are truck prices finally falling?

I sold trucks for 10 years.

I have questions for you on how you can BRUTALLY take advantage of the dealer.

1. Are you paying cash, leasing, or financing?
2. Do you need it right away?
3. Are you patient?
4. Are you ready to act quickly if need be?
5. Are you open to Spec and Color?
6. Do you buy a new truck every couple years...or 5-10 years.
7. Are you open to brands?
8. Do you want reliability?
9. Do you have brand loyalty (tunnel vision).
10. Do you like Estate sales?
11. No better deal then a MINT senior driven truck with no miles on it for cheap.
12. Do you need new?
13. Do you have kids?

Do you pay fee's? (Pure theft).

Do you add warranty? (Useless and insane).

Do you want 0% (RIP off ALOT of the time).

I Know the margins ON ALL brands and models.

Do you want 25,000 off cash or 0% with a trash discount?

Would you lease with intent to pay cash or re-finance?

Are you Muslim? Will you pay interest or a MASSIVE discount. (Great if you are in and out of trucks every 2 years).

Leather holds its value. Cloth does not unless it's a Tacoma or Tundra. FULL STOP!!

Gas or Diesel?

What is your budget? Monthly budget? Cash budget?
I'm also in the market and I have to do it this year for tax reasons. I can answer all of that if it will help me. I kind of gave up on buying new and have been looking for a year old or so. I'm wondering if waiting a month will help me? It looks like the economy and pile up of trucks is starting to show and reduce prices out of need to move em?

Watch ALL the ADS!!

20-25% off with interest BEFORE negotiations are best. No extras.

15% is good if that is all they are doing now.

Cloth half ton has 3500-5000k to play with marhin wise.

LOADED Leather one ton has 7-9k to play with.

Leather Diesel has 9-12k to play with.
Cloth diesel has 7-9 k..

These are AGGRESSIVE figures.

Best deal in the world is 2 year old used truck grampa bought with 20k or less on it.

Know the market. Be a market Snajper.

And for God sakes....but a 5.0L if you go Ford.

I have PTSD from 2.7s and 3.5 head gaskets.

Tundra are THE MOST RELIABLE TRUCK. Same with Tacoma.

GM 6.2 and 5.3 are great. Nissan is OKAY.

Ram is cheap and it might last. 5.7s are hit and miss. Stuck valves.

Toyota 5.7....GM 6.2..5.3...and Ford 5.0 are best.

Best Diesel OVErALL is GM/CHev.
Ram have great Cummins but TRASH trannys.

Fords are in Between the two.

I've been saying that since 2020, lol. I'm still waiting for a like new F250 Super Duty for $40,000.
They are out there.

I sold a Lariat 2010 Ford F350 Diesel (14000 kms)!!!!! Boat Puller in showroom condition. Rich guy GAVE it to us for like 22k

Sold it for 36k CAD back in 2016 and some Farmer called in low balling me...offering me like 28k...says he will be right down...I told him no...but we will chat when he gets here.

Oil Rig Kid walks in 2 SECONDS later buys it.

Farmer shows up and has a crybaby meltdown and tells the manager on me.

I made like 2 grand for 3 minutes of work.

Find that shit!!!

Time is the enemy of a car dealer.

Best deals are 18 months in.....but not always..

You need to watch for heavy discounts. Sometimes they only offer 20-25% of once every 2 years!!!!

You need a keen eye for ads and stuff.

New/Used is king.

My favorite SUV was a 2011 DenalinYukon for 16 thousand CAD....12k USD.

100k miles on it....all highway...senior driven...dealer maintained.

9.1/10 condition.

New ones were 91k in 2016.

Cars are a HORRaiBLE investment. Unless it's Toyota or an old Porsche that appreciates with time and use.

Always take leather if you can. It holds value MUCH better.

Yeah I will definitely have leather. I'm kind of spoiled on the trim level. I plan on getting one a year old. I just don't want to buy another new one and lose 10k when I drive off the lot. I don't need to finance so I figure I can find a good deal. I have a guy who can find what I want at the sale in Dallas and then I just pay him a few grand for getting it. That's the way I'm leaning but if I could find a great deal on a top trim level one I'd be fine with that too. It's really just about the best deal. I will drive it for at least 7 years, I always do. My current one is now turning 8 and will become my work truck so that's how I will probably keep doing it with my personal one.

I always thought that if you buy and hold...brand new is great.

It's yours. It's untouched. And you have reliability for a decade plus.

If you get hail damage....fix it..(get insurance check...pay a kid cash to fix it for cheap...pocket the difference). ...and snipe a new deal when you find one so as not to kill your future resale value on the hail damaged one.

Break even with hail. You don't want hail on a carfax.

Break even with a new Truck.....and you have a new truck.

Not bad in my AO

I waited with cash in hand for a deal on a suburban after 2008. They wouldn’t come down on price. Finally at the end of 2010 I got a dealer desperate enough to sell something that I got 18k off the price of a 2010 suburban. Still drive it since I can’t justify the new prices. My 2022 Chevy work pickup with the v6 gas engine non turbo only made it to 124k miles when the intermittent miss turned into 2 stuck valves, bent pushrods. I got the oil changed regularly and the dealership couldn’t identify the cause of the miss previously. Our office had 3 other identical trucks have the same stuck valve issue around same mileage. The fleet maintenance company decided it was too expensive to fix and gave me a new dodge to replace it.

Gotta love a good deal.

I bought a new F250, with the 7.3L gasser, this time last year and it galled me to pay sticker. I've always gotten 20%-25% off sticker, but everyone else was getting a $5k premium, over sticker. I drove nearly 600 miles to Nashville, TN to get the truck. I'll drive the wheels off of it, before I replace it. I figure I'll have to pay for this truck and two more before I cash my chips. There are no good deals on new or used trucks in NW Louisiana.
How you like it? I would love one.

I just sold my Chevrolet 3500 two wheel drive with 320K miles for $2K.
8.1 Vortec and Allison trans. At 8 mpg I put an oil executive's kid through college

Those vortec with allison were great but hogs on gas.

I wish that I’d kept my old Chevy 5.3l from the pre-bullshit days it ran great. Current ones aren’t as good.

I like it a lot. Plenty of power to tow my 12,000lb 5th wheel. The roads in Shreveport are horrible, but the drivers are worse, but I feel as safe as I can be and the steering and suspension are tough. It's a Lariat, middle of the pack, as far as extras. I had to have the AC seats. Cool nuts are a good thing . The mileage isn't too bad, if I can stay out of stop and go traffic.

Yeah. I love big gas motors. So reliable. My v-10 RV got 10 if you drove nice.

I actually get 14-16 driving to work if I hit most lights green, but 13-14 is usual, in town. It's 13.5 miles one way. Towing the camper, I get 7-10, depending on the hills. Been trying to get up to Broken Bow, but the state park is always booked months in advance. Oh, yea, the Godzilla engine sounds awesome when I stick my foot in it, but the gas gauge literally drops, visibly.

I’m only getting 15-16 in this half ton Ram with the hemi. Sad really.

Im on my second 7.3 SuperDuty... 2022 and a 23. 23 is "better" in that the interior is a little nicer than the 22. I like the heads up display and the seats are nicer(I have the max recline seats which are platinum seats without the massage function), the all digital dash is better. The transmission programming in the 23+ is better than the 22. The ECU in the 23 is supposed to have the latest and greatest to keep oil pressure a bit higher at idle(a source of the cam/lifter issue some 7.3's have had that idle a lot like in ambulances). The rear axle in the 23 is an 11.5" vs. 10.5" ring gear with larger axle tubes...is it an upgrade over the tried and true Sterling 10.5??? thats TBD, but I havent read anything bad. The front is not a "super60" anymore supposedly, its a Dana something... I think just about the same, but I dont know.

I think 22, 23, and 24 are going to be the sweet spot years in the SuperDuty lineup. The 25 order guide was just released and they lost a ton of stuff or are pushing you into higher trim packages to get stuff the Lariat used to get. No more leather in the Lariat(I know the Lariat "leather" isnt 100% leather anyway), you get ActiveX which is like a vinyl/cloth combo or something... Gotta go KR or PLatinum to get leather...

Depends on the brand around here. My brother inlaw owns a half a dozen dealerships. One is Ford. Fords are not moving around here. The market here is dead for them. To me the same with GM and Chrysler.

We just traded in our 2019 Yukon and went back to Toyota. We bought a 2024 Tundra. Had nothing but problems with the Yukon. Pure plain and simple and had to get out of it. The Toyota dealerships and Honda shops basically don't have anything to sell. Even before they get one in it's usually sold by the time it hits the dealership.

Our previous Toyotas where a 2014 Tundra, 2011 Sequoia and 2002 Sequoia and we still have our 2004 4Runner and a 2010 Corolla.

I’ve only driven Toyotas since 1997; 1989 FJ62, 2017 Tundra, 2016 TRD Pro 4 Runner, in the order of purchase. I bought the Tundra new, the others were used. I still have the Tundra and 4 runner. It drives my Volvo XC90 driving wide insane how much I don’t spend on maintenance and how reliable my Toyotas are.

I’ve read reports, however, that they are replacing the motors in over 100,000 new Tundra’s and the Tacoma guys are complaining about that new motor as well. I hope they get all that lined out as historically, they have been wonderful trucks. I have a lot of life left in mine as the ‘16 has 54K on it and the ‘17 only 40K. They both like their groceries, but they rarely need a mechanic. I was literally looking at F150’s because I wanted the option to put a third person in the front seat, but then found out Toyota was building a few trucks with a bench seat up front, a fold down center console, and a column shift. I was sold on that; I’m not sure they still do that.

Good luck with your new Tundra, I hope it’s not in the motor recall. There’s a reason you don’t see the camel jocks driving Fords, Cheveys, and Dodges in the desert……..they seem to want Toyotas.

Our ride is pictured below. Color is midnight metallic black. Has blue sequence in the color.

From what I understand is that it's possible on some 2022 and 2023 models with the new V6 twin turbo there was a step missing in engine assy or something like that and metal chips could've gotten into the motor and if they did... it wipes out the main bearings. If it happens Toyota will replace it with a brand new engine. It says the problem isn't widespread. Ours is a 2024. So I'm not worried about it.

In the background of that pic is the 2004 4Runner. that has like a 130k and has the 4.7 V8 in it which is a really good engine. I won't get rid of that thing. I'll drive it till it falls a part. Same with the 2010 Corolla which has now over 200k on it. Other than routine maintenance on all of our Tonka Toys..... zero issues. Like I said in my one post... our oldest son has our 2014 Tundra and that has like 175k on it and again routine maintenance stuff and zero issues.

Speaking of F150's... the other pic is of my 77 F150. It's rust free... and not getting rid of that either. No computer stuff on that one. You want 4wd... pull a lever.. you want the heat on... move a lever... put the windows down... rotate the handle! Only complaint is the 460 only gives me 8.7mpg!

Handsome color!!!

Love the 7.3L!!

I can only try and "read the tea leaves", but in my neck of the woods I'm noticing the lots are filling up (aka inventory is up) which is a drastic change from just a year or two ago AND I'm noticing manufacturers are now starting to offer small rebates and other incentives such as zero or low interest rates. But with that said, while I'm not seeing folks paying bonkers money above MSRP, the prices still seem to be very close to MSRP.

Inferring that these "markers" I'll call them haven't been seen in a while and that a lot of folks are hurting in the economy, my best educated guess (at least locally) is if one can hold out for a bit longer, I expect that as these cars continue to sit on the lots that we'll start seeing a downward trend in prices for the upcoming future. How much of an adjustment will likely depend on a number of macro-economic factors but if we were to slide into a recession, I'd have to imagine that the price of (at least new vehicles) will follow a comparable trend to how deep of a recession we fall into.

That might take sometime but we might get an indicator of what's to come, and a cyclical reduction within the next month or two of current year models as the 2025's come out.

Just my best guess based off of what I'm seeing. I don't have a crystal ball of course just going off of previous experience. Time will tell.

Here's an interesting thread with a ton of comments from those in the business:

No one is having a fun time right now, and I suspect that pricing will be the first crack to form because volume still matters a lot to the manufacturers (can't just sell half the vehicles at twice the profit per unit because that's not the way things work).

I am an open book.

I hate to see young people taken advantage of.

I turned away a slam dunk single mother one time. Told her to scat

I gave up 600 bucks.

Got out of the industry after that month.
Oil Rig Kid walks in 2 SECONDS later buys it.

Farmer shows up and has a crybaby meltdown and tells the manager on me.

I made like 2 grand for 3 minutes of work.

I bet you do. It was that way for me when driving my FJ62. I had a ‘72 Bronco from 1997-2004 and it got a lot of looks too; I should have kept it.

View attachment 8511080
boy were on the same page!

Here is a pic of my 70 Bronco. I brought it back from AZ and completely redid it. Had factory 4:10 gears with a locker in it. Sold it when I got a divorce. Metallic green and the top was painted black with sequence added to the paint. Put Edelbrock aluminum heads on it with rollers. That thing scooted pretty good!

Like the FJ's also.

Trying to get my cousin to sell me his '86 Toyota 4x4 extended cab pick up. Factory Turbo. Only made them like 2 years. He lives in AZ and it's rust free with like 40k miles on it. Been sitting for a solid 20+ years but he won't part with it. He's killing me!

Do not buy newer GMC. Have 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 with 6.2. Couple of days ago it just died. Towed to dealership. Service writer calls and says needs a fuel pump control module - $455 parts and labor. Punch line - no parts available and no idea when parts will be available. Called GMC customer service - they confirmed no parts available. Multiple GMC trucks at dealer now waiting on that part. Other GMC trucks on same lot waiting for a transmission control module.

When it died (only 2 miles from dealership by pure luck) - all I could think about was what of died in route to a PRS match in nowhere rural America.

When it gets fixed, it will be sold. Looking for an older Toyota Tundra, 4Runner, or GX470.

There's nothing particularly special about a FSCM, but the guys at GM and their suppliers who knew how to design and source such things (and keep track of component obsolescence issues) probably got some sort of early-retirement buyout over the last few years and GM didn't bother backfilling because it only makes $10B/year in net profit and can't be bothered to give a shit about its legacy customers.
