In the relatively short time that I've been shooting suppressed, there have been so many new companies come into the market that I can't keep up. I bought an AAC SCAR-H in 2008, didn't get the stamp for it until 2009, and then was so disappointed with variable POI every single time I'd take it off & put it back on. I mentioned having it to a local SOT/Class III dealer who had a SCAR 17 & was looking for one, and he offered to trade me a new SF SOCOM 762RC for it. I took him up on the deal, and was never so glad to get rid of a can. The SOCOM isn't all that great, but it beats the snot out of the AAC.
After that, I started buying TBAC 30 cal 9" cans - 30BA & 30CB9, both of which I've sent back to TBAC for the Ultra baffle stack upgrade. My favorite cans for bolt rifles are a Gen 1 Ultra 7 30 cal & Gen 2 Ultra 7 with 6.5 aperture. I've built myself several custom rifles based on the Howa Mini action, and since they're all chambered for relatively small case capacity rounds, I got a TBAC Gen 2 Ultra 5 for use on these rifles. Since all five of these use TBAC's CB mounts, I haven't been all that crazy about going with a HUB mount, but then again, I'm so pleased with the TBAC cans that I haven't looked into any of what all the newer companies are offering for bolt rifles.
I was relatively disappointed with the SF SOCOM & 9" TBAC cans on any of the AR10 gas guns I tried them on, simply because of how filthy the fired cases were & how dirty the rifles got with the excess back pressure. Until I bought a Gen 1 OSS HX-QD 556 that was on sale for $625, I hadn't tried any of the flow-type cans, but on my 18" SPR AR15, it's spoiled me. I wouldn't consider buying a non-flow design for any of my gas guns now, but there are so many newer ones out there that I haven't bought a 30 cal flow design because I haven't put in the time researching features, nor spoken with other shooters who've got a decent amount of experience with any of them. The old OSS 556 can is pretty heavy compared to any of my TBAC cans, but accuracy with it is good, so all I'm really looking at is a 30 cal flow design for my custom AR10s in 6XC, 6.5x47, 6.5CM, & 7-08 Improved 30*.
