So you know I'm not pulling your collective legs, I am including a picture of some recent builds with optics I am enjoying. Note, that I have not put these through hard use, but I feel very confident in these optics setups.

Top, MCX with T2 on Unity mount and Scalar Works front iron. Aimpoint magnifier in Unity mount (I have not yet put any rounds on the magnifier. RC2 supressor (love it) if interested in my thoughts.

Geissele Super Duty 14.5" with ATACR 1-8 DMX reticle with Unity mount I believe (not sure I'm using this mount long term), heart this rifle, probably will be my GoTo for the coming end of civilization LOL. Troy irons. I've got a Griffin Explorr 224 with a B+T SF hub adapter, no miles on the supressor yet.

11.5" Super Duty with Scalar Works 1.93" and T2, Surefire light in the grass. Our bump in the night gun, RC3 supressor still to be fully tested. I have a set of Scalar Works 1.93" BUIS to install and zero. I have a magnifier for this, but I'm not sure I will install it for everyday use.

Sig Rattler 300 Blackout, going back to Sig due to light primer strikes. Truck Gun LOL (no one would leave this in their truck). Set up with the pictured EXPS two dot reticle on Unity Riser. I just put the 5X magnifier on there for the photo as a joke (EOTech 5X on Unity mount). Seems to be a pretty good 5X magnifier, but haven't had enough time on it. SF SOCOM 300 SPS supressor, unfired as of today.

Bottom; One of the Commiefornia guns I built with Trijicon Credo 1-6 Second Focal Plane w/BDC reticle. I have 2000+ rounds through this, so it did get some use. I do like this scope for it's clarity, utility and reasonable cost. I give it a thumbs up.

Those are some nice setups. I’m torn between the mounts as I like the spuhr setup for a t2 but it’s all one mount in the end. Question, if you have two t2s why run the eotech on the third weapon system?

Sorry, it sometimes takes me a long time to get back to the forum replies. It really depends on your use case. Frankly, anything inside 3-400 yards can be done with a RDS and magnifier, but it's not comfortable after about 100 yards. Inside 100 yards the RDS is king.

I’d bring that in to say inside 25 yards the RDS is king.

I’ve had a number of firefights where my 4x ACOG helped me identify threat positions at ~100 yards where I wouldn’t have been able to spot the threats in dark windows or among palm groves with just a red dot. Or being able to use the magnification to see if it’s just some farmer fiddling with a tool, or if it’s a guy rigging a command wire.

Then, between 25 yards and 100 yards, it’s really a crap shoot between a red dot and an LPVO at 1x. But the LPVO of course also gives you the benefit of a little mag if you need it.

Generally agree with you though.

Best weapon gets thrown around a lot. The best weapon depends entirely on your situation. In my situation 5.56 is a complete non-starter. Far too much penetration with how close neighbors are.
Entirely depends on your bullet selection. A TSX or other barrier blind round like an LE bonded bullet? Very possibly. But a 55gr FMJ, VMAX or 77gr TMK? No, absolutely not. They have less penetration through barriers than pistol rounds usually. It’s all about how a bullet dumps its energy. Or, if a JHP is going to get clogged and not expand.

I heard that was the older model not the hd setup.
If you're going with the mainstream stuff (mostly what is being talked about in the thread already), you can't really go wrong. T2s are great. I prefer the MRO over the T2, but I am in the minority on that one, for sure. The other Aimpoint that has my eye is the CompM5S. A bit pricier than the T2, but runs on a more convenient battery (AAA instead of 2032).

Eotech are also awesome. I have not owned one, but a few of my friends have them, and the sight picture through them is probably the best you'll get from a RDS. The relative weight could be a factor, if you're trying to keep weight as light as possible. If you don't mind a few ounces near the middle of the rifle (a good place to put extra weight), don't discount the Eotech (unless the battery life turns you off-- my understanding is that the shake-awake helps to mitigate this).

If anyone DOES go for the MRO, know that the taller mounts tend to be overkill. The larger objective brings the optical axis up a bit, making (for me, at least) a 1.57" just right. I think Sage Dynamics (youtube channel) draws a similar conclusion when reviewing the 2.26 mounts. The other drawback I see to the taller mounts is that the overall profile of the rifle is enlarged, which might interfere with whatever rifle case or bag you're using (might have to buy a new one or whatever). Lastly with respect to the optic mount height, for a short range build, I personally feel like the height over bore on the tall mounts is "too much." But better men than me would disagree.
