New AB phone app on the way?

@DocUSMCRetired would be the one to beat down on this for information. Heard SOMETHING is in the works, due summer time if testing continues going well. Regurgitating information I heard from somewhere else. Definitely not a reliable source but curious none the less.
When I updated the current app 2 days ago it come up with a screen saying to back everything up to the web because major changes are coming
my interest is peaking. I've got a kestrel, the ab analytics and all but curious to see what's coming out.
Cannot share anything more than what the app notification says. Something is coming.
I am thinking early Q3, but that is just a guestimate. As we are still in the early testing phase of some new features.
My main concern is purchasing the app now, and be left out when the new one comes out. Now what I'm reading seems to point towards an major update rather than a whole new app. That'd be the only confirmation I'd need before pulling the trigger!
Current users will not need to pay to transfer over to the new app.
Does this mean my Kestrel will get updated automatically or will I need to it manually and pay a fee?
Any hope that the weathermeter/kestrel compatibility is fixed in that update? I just shelled out 40$ for the app, only to find its not supported in iOS. Not exactly a great start...
The Kestrel will not only work with the app, but profiles you create in the new app will now be transferable to the Kestrel directly out the of app.
We don't really have one. Maybe end of summer, maybe later. That isn't the cool new feature. That is just fixing an old one.
@DocUSMCRetired am I going to be jealous as a kestrel elite owner? I need something. Should I be saving up for this?
I am hoping we can announce the new product this week. We shall see. You should have already saved up.
Anyone else having a problem getting AB to sync from device to cloud today? I attempted to sync, nothing but a spinning wheel for 5 mins, updated app and tried again, same results, just sits their spinning like it's thinking.
Newby to the app myself. While we await the announcement/upgrade, is the most recent version of the online manual the one for version 2.1 from 2018?
Because we’re talking about an app, I think he means running the updated code in their production service (vs dev or preprod). If that is what docusmcretired meant, then no… not hardware.
I hadn't previously seen this discussion. I too would be interested, since there doesn't seem to have been another update in the following 4 months.
Right now, we are getting the legal paperwork codified for the new reticles, we are getting the legal paperwork codified for the new products being implemented (we have decided to add connectivity to many more devices than originally at launch), and we are getting Apple Approval on many of the new features. Apple requires we send them a detailed description, and video (because most of their techs have zero knowledge of this field), and waiting on approval. The apps will launch together, so we will wait for Apple instead of going forward with the Android release.
At this moment I am adding in the new features and revamping the user manual, as well as working on the instructional video.
We have about 24 people field testing the app, breaking it, and we just released an update this morning (version 305) with those fixes. All I can say is, soon, as we wait the legal processes out.

Lol, its not entirely just Apple. It is lawyers as well. We are getting iron clad agreements in place for the reticles. I do understand some companies ignored copyright laws and went ham illegally with reticles, but we abide by US and International copyright laws. This also includes device connectivity. Devices like Garmin, Nielsen-Kellerman, Bushnell, etc etc are the property of those companies. We want to make sure we do right by them and include them in this process. We have gotten most of the legal stuff in order, and let them know what this means for their devices.
This launch will come in 5 phases.
We have mapped this out in a way that is beneficial/respectful to both our partner companies, and ourselves.
Phase 1 will include device connectivity. At this time device connectivity will be limited to devices that are in the AB Ecosystem only.

I guess it doesn't matter where all my profiles went on the web as long as it says they're backed up?
In terms of the ones that talk to your wind meter, yea that's great in a match, and I want the most accurate, current, true wind value I can get. Though, I really don't try to shoot a match directly off the data, and have the exact same hold it recommends, but for me it's just another reference point. My first shot is always cheated by what I'm seeing through the scope rather relying on the data. After so many wind calling clinics, weaponized math, etc. I trust my own senses and what I'm seeing over received electronic data.
Yet, if I'm just going to the range to test or play I love just hitting the local conditions button and allowing the APP to input the local weather service data without screwing with a weather meter at all. It's not going to provide a usable wind call, but it will get all of the other environmentals pretty darn close. That is pretty darn user friendly without even needing a wind meter.
I think it's user friendly to the point where some marksmen who are used to manually inputting everything and truing with BC and speed might think it's too simplified. The proof for me has been in the impacts. I sort of thought it was dumbed down till I found out how accurately it was putting rounds on target.
In spring and fall I've had some pretty wild swings, and AB has gotten it right every time even when I was shocked by how much the trajectory changed based on conditions. The last month I've been shooting in humidity so thick the bullets practically left contrails.
In short, I don't use any of the other APPs anymore. This one does everything I need it to do and in a much more user friendly and simplified format...IMHO. I honestly wouldn't want it to be any more user friendly or simplified than it is. I am actually glad I have used so many older ones that were much more manual and required many more inputs. This to the point where I didn't think AB would be as accurate when I first started using it. But I was wrong. It is.
It also works really well on .22 subs where some of the older solvers I have used have been spotty at best.
I have used four ballistic solvers over the past 20 years, and I find that Applied is by far the easiest and most user friendly. The ability to true the curve with your actual dope rather than screwing with velocities and BCs alone makes it the easiest and most user friendly APP there is IMO. It isn't the only one that does that, but it's in a small group that do.

Which devices are you using it on?
Android is such a mess.
And my closest online weather station is 50 miles from where I shoot. It's quite worthless if it won't talk to my wind meter to get temp, humidity, and pressure.
Not that I can't input them manually, but when stre-lok is more user friendly (and allows all the truing you think is so special) why would I keep using something that makes my life harder?
IOS. Fair enough. Stre-Lok is the most popular one I haven't used. I find AB extremely simplified from my other solvers, but I suppose that's personal experience and opinion.
The wind is wrong 100% of the time when I just hit the weather station, but everything else is spot on. I generally don't link to the Kestrel unless I'm at a match, which is generally in the middle of nowhere where a weather station wouldn't work anyway.

Yes, the app is done.
We have submitted the finalized version to Apple for approval.
While we work through the launch, we are adding a couple more features to it.
I finished the new user manual, which is now being handed around for clean up/review.
I am set to record the complete walk through video this week so we can get it posted the day before the app launches.
Probably about 2 weeks maybe less.

I can say that something fixed my issues with my weather meter taking to AB in Android. So I went ahead and bought the 257 cdms and backed up waiting for this new update.
I just kept messing with it, there's a "hamburger" in the top right that you click for a pull-down menu, click aquire atmosphere, select weather meter.
We submitted to iOS with a plan to launch tomorrow, but it looks like it might be next week as we work on approval. Maybe Wednesday. Just working with Apple on this.
