My South African long-range shooter friend wrote a letter to the AB team.
Dear AB team
I have been engaged in long-range shooting for many years. Despite the variety of ballistic calculators available, I have always used your product, Applied Ballistics, in its earlier version, which fully met my needs.
I am disappointed with the release of the new version. I represent the collective opinion of a large community of long-range shooters from South Africa
We hold your company in high regard and plan to continue using your software in the future. To enhance your product and better meet the needs of shooters, I would like to offer the following suggestions:
1. Reintroduce the previous version of the program* without changes, and give users the choice between the old and new versions. The previous version had no issues for me, while the new version has numerous shortcomings and lacks improvements.
2. Restore the ability to set the target movement angle*, a critical parameter present in the old version.
3. Allow users to set the gunpowder temperature separately from air temperature.* This was possible in the old version and is crucial. For instance, in weather at -30°C, the air is very cold and dense, but the shooter may be firing from a vehicle where the ammunition is at +20°C.
4. Bring back the ability to input weapon and ammunition parameters using a mix of metric and imperial units.* The old version allowed this. For example, I prefer defining barrel twist in inches, scope height in millimeters, bullet caliber in inches, and bullet length in millimeters. The new version forces users to choose one system.
5. Each time the program is closed, the selected distance resets, and upon reopening, the default distance of 91 meters (100 yards) appears. This requires re-entering the desired data every time. It would be more practical to save the previously selected distance, as was implemented in the earlier version.
6. Improve the main screen layout.
* Currently, atmospheric parameters, which do not change rapidly, take up prime space. For quick access, the main screen should feature:
- Distance
- Wind speed
- Wind direction
- Target angle (inclination )
I am confident that addressing these points will make your software even better and satisfy even the most demanding shooters.
Best regards,
