Really wish they'd just bring back the Mausingfield M7 closed top. Trigger hangers are a gimmick, no need to trim the stock for fitment issues, just use standard Savage barrel blanks, no need for AI cut so standard AICS work great which are easier to find.

Entry Level Build after CDG Price Bump

It’s ironic how the intro pricing of the CDG has got it labeled as a “budget” action - where in reality it has always been a competitor to all the high end actions.
This is so true, he left the intro price for to long which was awesome for us. Unfortunately it got people so ingrained with the price that they feel it’s worth that. In all honesty Ted was just more than gracious at the amount of time he gave us the opportunity to buy at that price when all along it was worth way more.
Yeah, he used that time to make small tweaks and people don’t mind too much if they feel that the reduced price is worth the inconvenience.
Pricing strategy is all about the feels.
(Well not just about feelings, but you get my drift)
yeah he played it smart. I was happy to pay 900$ for my first one and I'll be happy to pay 1200 for my second one, probably next year.
A really smart marketing move. He probably got a lot of people into CDGs that may have otherwise picked a different action.
The action market is so tough to break into these days. I think moving them at a discounted price to really get them out there was really smart of Ted.
Now it's a known and established entity within the action market that people rave about.
Got a chance to play with the Aero Solus at the range this weekend. I was trying to love it but it wasn't happening for me. The bolt was binding unless you were careful to pull it straight back. The bolt handle was jumping a lot when the trigger released the firing pin. I don't care for the dual ejector pins in the bolt face. The bolt handle angle felt wrong.
Like I say I was trying to love it but I would be willing to spend a little more to get what I would say is a lot more.

right. designing the perfect action was only half the battle. then he had to get us to buy 50 thousand of them so he could make his money back and keep his business afloat. Hence the low price because the market was saturated with usable, albeit inferior options.
I say that but I like toys of all budgets and don't mind to polish a cheapo gun up so don't think me too snobby, just lazy.
also I keep forgetting to mention the origin if you're pinching pennies. I'm sure someone else did though.

With Impact you get a company that has a bit more consideration for existing customers I think. ARC does some really cool stuff but that innovation can leave some customers behind sometimes, or at least it feels that way. Nucleus Gen1 vs Gen2, Mausingfield M5 vs M7, long action Mausingfields no longer being produced at all it seems, Archimedes -> CDG. Part of it is because ARC is doing some extremely creative innovation with their designs whereas Impact is more sticking with ol' reliable. But it's something I've noticed.
I don't have a CDG or a Terminus so I'm not personally invested in this. I do own an M5 Mausingfield if that means anything. And I love ARC's scope rings as well.

Its not about "what you get" its about "what do you want" I.E. pick the one you like most.
I'm with Frank on the "action wars" Once you reach the Origin level, its all just gravy. People talk about customer CS but I've never seen one rise above another (I get ignored by all of them). Keep in mind that different disciplines "like" different actions (Herd mentality). They are all damn good.
The intro price was the reward for being ARC’s beta testers.

Tate will answer your emails at 2am. All kidding aside, Impact has great CS, is active in the PRS community and looks out for it's customers. I personally saw Tate give a shooter his new 75 degree bolt at the end of a match after 2 days earlier commenting he was excited to try one.

All the actions are so good these days. It's hard to make a bad choice.
Arguing over actions is arguing over the small minutia at this point.
The "action wars" should be over, everyone has won. Great time to be a precision rifle shooter.
I say the same thing all the time - actions, chassis, glass - we have so many awesome choices at every price point.
Unfortunately this hobby (like most) is plagued with ownership bias wherein people only harp on about what they own.

To some extent, pick any custom action, in any chassis over $1000, and any glass over $2000, and you’re gonna have a sweet build. Gone are the days of Stiller or Surgeon.
I ran a Arc nucleus for a few years and loved the action but after switching to a Bat Igniter I couldn't go back to anything but bat. I also have had a defiance tenacity which was alright good action but not bat. The rail is screwed and pinned and I run 300 norma improved on it no issues over a year and I don't have concerns of the rail coming loose.
The irony in this is the Origin still gives you features above the bare minimum. Many higher prices actions aren't going to swap back and forth between .223, 308, and magnum bolt faces. With a coating. I think the Mack Bro's EVO is a better example of a baseline no-frills quality action.
I don't have any strong reasons except for these:
-I just want something different because I already own a CDG.
-CDG light is kind of ugly which is my opinion and my opinion only.
-Apollo lite is DLC
-My CDG's black nitride is worn out like a 50 year old porn star and it has <500 rounds on it.
-My Tuebor DLC'd action looks GREAT yet and I have almost 2k rounds through it.
They all have their pro's and con's such as:
-Apollo lite does not have integrated lug.
-Impact NBK is still black nitrided.
I have not made my decision and could easily buy a CDG Light if on sale. Hell, I could buy a Solus if that sob wasn't so heavy @36 oz.
I'm just very happy we have so many options! Back in 2008 there was very limited options.
A few years back I bought an Origin as my first custom action, mainly due to its features over the price, as I knew I wanted a changeable bolt-face and I wanted to try a CRF action... but at the time I figured it might not be my last action, so I figured saving $500 versus buying a TL3 would pay for the first barrel (and it did).
Since buying the Origin I've had the opportunity to play with just about every action out there worth owning: Impact 737s, TL3s, a few different Defience's, ARC CDG, Terminus Zeus, Lone Peak Fuzion, etc, and maybe just as relevant, I'm now deep enough into this shit to know that a few hundred bucks either way means nothing, and I have the funds to buy any action out there if I wanted to (and I would if I thought one was meaningfully better).
4 barrels later (with barrel #5 on the shelf) I'm still shooting my Origin, with no plans to buy anything else. IMO some are as good, but none are better, and in some ways the Origin has advantages that the others can't match: like how I can run Origin prefits and TL3 prefits (with an HLR lug), as well as Savage small shank barrels if I wanted. An Origin's pinned lug and pinned rail aren't downsides, they just leave more options open.

That’s how I justify everything. Oops there goes 5 grand on a new build.
I'm very happy with my Origin action, the only complaint I have is how easy it is to swap prefits and bolt heads..
I've probably gone back and forth between a creed, GT, and now a .223 about 8 times this year.

In my experience I'd highly recommend spending a couple $2-$300 more and avoid the shit out of the Solus.
An action is forever, cut corners elsewhere.

IDK much about the others, but when it comes to buying/owning an Origin, you also get Ray @Zermatt Arms who has provided exceptional customer service and support whenever I’ve had questions or needed help with anything. They have been fast and generous with anything I’ve needed and IME most companies in the precision rifle world aren’t even half as good when it comes to taking care of their customers.
