MAGA RECAP THURSDAY: REAGAN EDITION
JANUARY 24, 1985: President Ronald Reagan has been sworn in as the 40th US President for 3 days. Ninjas, Kung Fu masters, and bandanna wearing, camo clad warriors carrying M16A1s are gracing the movie screens. Schoolkids are bugging their parents at supermarkets to get them a new sensation that is taking over the country by storm: Squeezable jello tubes and Fruit Roll-Ups. Real life martial arts masters pack bustling dojos combining Eastern and Western combat theories to create a new and budding sport, MMA. Meanwhile at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, a different group of warriors are preparing for the fight that will define humanity's next step in the universe, to conquer the lethal and harrowing conditions of space and prepare the world for a new chapter in space exploration. On the launchpad at Kennedy, NASA's capital flagship, the shuttle Discovery underwent final inspections and prepared to make one of multiple journeys that would define this era and establish the base comparison standard for all future reusable and pilotable orbital and interplanetary craft.
