Picked up an eotech mk2 elr recently and just wondering how it compares to a voodooM for the guys that have both or been around both. I’m finding out I’m a BAE core type of guy and while I do like the eotech unit I’m just wondering if I’m missing out not owning a M? I debated between these two before picking up the eotech and my main driver for going with the eotech was the larger germanium objective. I hunt open plains with no trees so identifying coyotes at 800+ is a big deal. Price of the voodoo was also a factor LOL

The Voodoo M will have better sensitivity, definition, and PID, but if you are in open areas and without alot of background thermal signature the ELR does provide very good pixel density and will still likely work just fine for you.

I also personally think the BAE cores are superior and the premium is worth it. There is something magic about their contrast and 3-dimensional image that really works. For example I was on a recent trip and using 35 mm IR Hunter as a mobile spotter, and I was able to pick out and identify stuff that my friends were struggling with while using Pulsar and ATN stuff of similar resolution and objective size. It isnt a "night and day" difference but that extra 5-10% that is noticeable.

The ELR is perfectly serviceable though and will provide significant long range capability.

I have used both. I choose the M hands down, but I know people who feel differently. If you’re a BAE core kind of guy, you will definitely prefer the M.

As I’ve posted before, I’ve had conditions where animals didn’t show up at all with Eotech/Theon clip ons, where they showed up great with BAE thermals, and no, this was not a settings issue. This was in extreme cold, so I don’t know how that’s possible, but it was very disappointing.

Try the M.

@tekmann2377 @Evolution 9 that is the information I’m looking for, thanks for your write ups !!!

Don’t get me wrong the clipir mk2 is an amazing unit but it just doesn’t quite give me that warm fuzzy feeling I get when I fire up my voodooS or nox18.

A 20% BF deal on a voodoo sure would be nice 🤣

Edit to add:

So if I’m understanding you guys right detecting and PID’ing yotes at 800 yds or so I won’t give up anything going to a M vs the mk2 even though the mk2 has a larger lense?

You will detect better with the M due to the way the core smokes the competition. PID will theoretically be slightly harder due to the slight pixel density difference. I can’t make hits under actual field conditions at near the distance the M will PID a yote, so for me it’s irrelevant.
