I’ve been waiting since last shot show for the Z Bolt ACAL to come out and it doesn’t seem like that’s actually gonna happen anytime soon. Then I figured I’d try the holosun IRIS, but that’s a flop so far as well.

Anyone use any of the knockoff IR units? Specifically been looking at the laser speed M6TR.

Everything I’ve seen on it has been pretty positive, and most people saying it flat out beats their FP peq15’s.

Trying to get feedback here cause most of the feedback I’ve found from searching is on Reddit / ar15.

If you have any other lasers to check out as well, let me know!

Not much on them. Buy one, test it and let us know how it pans out. I would be interested to know if it was worth a $1,100 investment. Perst 3's are solid, but about $2,600. Malw-C1+ are great, but going for $3,600. I currently run a Perst 4 with a stand-alone IR Illuminator.

I’ve contacted a few people directly who claim to own them.
One dude said he sold his MAWL to then buy 3 of the laser speed units. Another dude claims that it blows the full power peq15’s away.

I take Reddit and ar15 with a grain of salt though. I may just test it out and try and get some other units from people to compare em

Ya i take all these forums with a grain of salt. I assure you snipershide has as many idiots as ar15 and reddit. To the question- i used one, felt cheap, performed reasonably well. Held zero, etc.

Using a PEQ15 as a comparative basis is a losing endeavor. PEQ15's are serviceable but they really suck if your metric is performance.

The M6TR vastly exceeds the performance of the PEQ15 for a fraction of the price. At this time, for anyone not interested in spending over 3k (new), the M6TR is the "best" performing option on the market.

The IRIS is coming. I would really hold out for that. Holosun may delay their releases but they ALWAYS get their promised products out. The IRIS is too important for them to shelve. I would imagine we will see this product in the first quarter of 2025.

Also, supposedly Zbolt is going to have a definitive release date at Shot 2025.

I'd hang in there unless you absolutely need a unit right now. Up to you bro. You certainly wont be disappointed with the M6 as it seems to be a good unit. The only caveat being, no one really knows what long term durability is going to be like.

What are you using the laser for? I’m pretty hard on my shit hunting but have found that a lot of the airsoft lasers are good enough for my purposes. I’d rather spend $200 every couple of years if it breaks than $2k+ on something fancy. Takes one minute before I go out each night hunting to confirm IR laser is zeroed with my day optic. Just part of my standard PCCs.

Would just be hunting, and doing night shooting / training. The classic “SHTF” gear as well I guess.

Im not an oPerAtOR lol

I’m gonna hang in till shot show. I’m not optimistic, but I’m gonna wait it out. I have grown to HATE shot show

The IRIS is finally shipping. It’s on pre-order on a lot of sites now (Rainier, JRH, etc).

Honestly though, I’m tempted to buy the SMS for $250 OVER the IRIS and wait for the industry to settle on the IRIS.

I know it’s better than the SMS, but is it $700 better?

There's a bunch of small channels testing different Chinese LAMs and their clones of expensive legit units.

Some of the clones are hands down better than the civilian spec models for a fraction of the cost at least in terms of performance.

Benefit of Holosun is they have been making great strides and will fix an issue if one occurs. The Laserspeed units are known to be pretty damn good too.

I’ve been running a somogear PEQ15 for 6 months and have no complaints. Just have to confirm zero each night before I go out hunting pigs, but super easy to do. Whether a function of the unit or my handguard I’ll occasionally see some drift, but quick to rectify. For the price it’s hard to beat. ISEG ngal is pretty nice as well, but don’t recommend based on wait time. DBAL D2 is now my backup/loaner unit.

I was truly debating on purchasing the SMS HFXC, but to see such a massive divide on water rating for this compared to other units like the new IRIS (IPX3 vs IPX8)

This is what 4MR Ranch had to say, and what dissuaded me from purchasing at this point in time:

“I have confirmed from SMS that the illuminator adjustment dial is the main area to have water intrusion issues. Doesn’t sound like they have plans to improve it. This is a huge drawback and this unit can never be ‘duty’ grade if this isn’t fixed.”

Any links for those who don’t have IG and all that?

I have 5 sms now, with 3 new ver. 2 ones shipping. I also now have the iris. They have held up FANTASTICALLY so far (my most used one has 3k rounds of 5.56 and about 800 rounds of 308 on it. Its fine). Its brighter then the iris, dbal a2, 9007, and 117ir (being full power of course it is). I have been recommending em heavily. 4mr ranch has a wonderful vid on em too. Of note- his sounds like the zero drifted initially, then settled in. Mine haven't done so, but i 1000% trust what he says. Also, its NOT water proof, but only "resistant". Ive had mine out in snow and had no issue, but i didn't try and pack it with snow/water (im using mine, not torture testing it). The ver 2. Brings some very important quality of life improvements. They still need to bring out the 18650 batt cap. I will say i HATE HATE HATE the batt location. I just got the iris, so no in depth thoughts yet

I dont think a 250 dollar LAM could ever be "duty rated", and think thats a preposterous expectation. These go on backup/loaner/fun guns. If your life will depend on the rifle, spend real money on real equipment. I also dont buy chinese helmets or body armor for these reasons. Let's be realistic

Very fair response. I’m glad you have had good experiences with the HFXC thus far. If I hadn’t just bought the IRIS I’d grab one too. I wish I could get one of those 40% codes on an FDE v2 model. Any spares you got?! lol

I agree to have realistic expectations. I’ll honestly prob run the IRIS-3 on my main, an HFXC on my secondary, and then maybe someday get an IRIS-4 in a year or so

Im waiting on a discount code for more (it allowed me to buy 2). I tell you what though, and this is a serious post- if you want to test one, ill send you one to use for a few months. I have ZERO affiliation with sms, and ill send you one of my.personal units (a v2). Youve been here for several years, ill trust ya. Try it, decide if ya want to buy one, and let the community know your thoughts? Message me if so. Heck, maybe we could do a hide pasaround? (If thats allowed?)

Edit to add-

This isnt an exclusive offer. Id love to offer this as a passaround unit to guys here. I dont claim this is the best unit on the market, but i think its a decent unit for the everyday guy looking for a backup/hog gun unit

I just tested my HFXC at the range 50 yards that I received a few days ago. I align the green laser with my red dot and shot the 1st round it was exactly where my red dot is. On second round it moves slightly to the right and up. I thought it was me. I mounted the rifle on a Caldwell Sled to have zero movement, the green laser shifted more toward upper right . So I re-adjust the green laser to align with my red dot after 3rd rounds it moves again. Its not holding zero! I'm very disappointed. I hope I just got a defective unit. If not I hope SMS will send me a prepaid return label. I even bought it with the 18650 battery cap hoping it will be my "goto" for night shooting this coming spring.

Thats terrible. All of mine hold zero (on 5.56, .308, and 50 bmg.

@j-moose32 have you ever used a Luna Elir3 IR laser? (NOT the light, which can easily be confused looking it up online)

When you get one, the first thing to do is "adjust the allen screw on the filter"

It has an adjustable beam divergence so it can be used as a conventional IR laser or widen the beam = IR spotlight

I have not. I waited till shot show before doing any purchases and now am gonna jump on an Iris unless zbolt comes up with something before my Iris gets here (I bought doubt that will happen)

Exactly what i said. Some iris units have artifacts in the ir illum. And it is causing nv devices to autogate.

Im unsure if i can be any clearer. Holosun josh says they are fixing it.

You made an assertion in your first post backed by no information. Your second post, was pretty damn clear. Citing sources is a pretty good method of sharing information.

Thanks.
