Just watched the sprint race qualifying at COTA … Looks like it’s gonna be an interesting race weekend!
Freshly resurfaced track seems to be a challenge for the drivers, new kid Colapinto is really doing amazing things for Williams…hell, even the Haas cars are looking good!
I like their new livery too.

Ferrari one - two. Last time was at the US Grand Prix in 2006 at Indianapolis. Brenda and I were there.
Stayed at a wonderful Bed and Breakfast north along the river. After the race and after we got some supper, I went for a walk on the grounds not long after dark. Never saw so many lightning bugs in my whole life. It was surreal.
Went on to visit the lake in northern Indiana where my father spent his summers growing up in the 1930’s. My grandparents lakeside cottage was still there. (Barely) We spent much time at the yacht club where our family was charter members. Folks were nice and a few even remembered our family. (Grandparents sold the cottage in 1966, two years after both their sons died at 40 and 41 years of age so that was a stretch of time.
Drove home through the mountains of Arkansas.

Good race! No one was paying any attention to Charles until the very end of the race, after that magnificent move in the first turn, LoL… Great fight(s) for positions from second place, all the way down through the field.
And yeah, not a huge fan, but great to see a Ferrari 1-2 after such a long drought. Great to see both rookies in the points too.

I was there in Austin, saw the controversy all with my own eyes. Lando has this habit of way overdriving his car trying to pass somebody that's got better racecraft. In Austin, he was hauling ass, had zero intention of making the turn (like he did in Austria). Max was literally maybe 4" out of bounds and lando was already 5-8 feet at the trackout point. Now the poor British press cannot get enough hate on Max. Lando has ZERO racecraft. In Austin, had he late apexed, he'd have had Max. Had he waited one more lap, he'd have had him...maybe even at turn 1.
Yesterday we saw that come to fruition. Another dive bomb by Lando into turn 4, 15KPH faster than even in his fastest lap, super late braking and no chance of staying on track. And again, Lando cannot figure out late apexing and setting up for the swap on the next corner. Yet Max gets a 10 second penalty. In Austin, CryBaby Sr's protege got 5 seconds as did that new master crybaby Lando (not to mention the total move under breaking at Turn 1 and his 4 off track excursions. Why? Because stewards are intimidated by the likes of Sky and the rest of the biased press. I'll grant you, Max royally messed up on turn 7; but I actualy think (and I see a few sites have picked up on this) he's playing chess...how can I minimize points damage.
I've said it once and I'll repeat...Drive-to-Survive RUINED Formula 1. What the heck would these whiners think about Senna vs Prost, Schumacher vs whoever was beside him or within 100 meters of him? Piquet? Mansell? And yes, for the record I was and remain a Prost fan even though I always felt Senna was the "bad guy;" but, the battles in that generation made this Lando idiot's whining look like....well...a crybaby that even puts Hamilton's crying to shame. BTW...good luck Ferrari with that...
Prediction - Max starts agression now on the outside, gets nose slightly in front at apex...totally converse to racing and most likely not possible with anthing other than a modern F-1 car.

If the humans running Ferrari’s racing program had a combined IQ higher than a profoundly retarded, NO, Brain Dead Rock, they would drop that contract with has been hamilton like a 100Megaton Hydrogen bomb that was set to go off Monday, October 28, 2024 at 1:45 PM Central daylight savings time. (That would be twenty minutes from the time I am writing this)
100% agree on that!!!! I'd make a deal with Williams and put Colapinto in there. I think they should have kept Sainz or if releasing one, I'd likely have done away with LeClerc (tough call though, both have bouts of unpredictability).
The best I've read this weekend...Lawson giving the bird to Checo. Lawson should have been in the RB20 seat right after Spa. Though, I do think the RB20 is a piece of junk and that maybe that's why Newey left...he knew it and he was not getting his say in development as he used to so it was adios.
I totally agree on this. I feel that, on balance, Sainz is the better driver than LeClerc. I think they made the wrong choice there. I also think the Hamilton is enough past his prime that he won't set the world on fire at Ferrari. This makes me smile!!
I think LeClerc is the naturally better/faster driver, but Sainz has amazing driving IQ.
I don't think swapping Sainz for Hamilton was a good trade at all.
I'm also a bit surprised that a team like Red Bull didn't pick up Sainz. That talent seems like it will be wasted on a Williams, but I guess that's F1.
That's it 100%...driver IQ. LeClerc is naturally better and faster; but then again Senna was naturally faster than my hero Prost but his driver IQ probaby wasn't quite as high. Prost was also a LOT smoother if my memory isn't failing me and took into account wear & tear on car (going from 5th to 2nd directly to keep wear off the syncros and such...just nuts, but smart). The cars are different, and MUCH easier to drive nowdays me thinks, but the fundementals shouldn't be different.
Solution to the latest "controversy" is to bring back traps (the new fake gravel for instance which I suspect is lightweight and poses less chance of coming through a visor). I will say there are a lot of guys on the F1 grid who would be in the back of a Porsche Cup race!!!!! They may quali on pole; but during the race they'd get slaughtered because there is a LOT more car banging going on and raw agression. It was VERY entertaining. Though, at times a bit insane with how far off the road they'd go - even through the dirt!!

17 to 1st. Amazing. And was so much faster than anyone else today. I also think he clinched the driver's championship. Maybe not quite yet.

3) FIA tried f’ing Max over….the BS call almost immediately after Piastri let Lando pass in the sprint, claiming they were looking at Stroll’s telemetry during Quali (uhhh, bullshit). Max is racing maFIA, Snack Brown’s ties with Liberty Media, and at least 10 other drivers.
4) Max gave one of the best drives in F1 history today and hopefully shut the door on the whining P###Sy Lando Norris.
5) Ocon indeed is talented; lot’s have been written how good he was in karting & Gasly didn’t falter either. Glad Alpine had podiums!!! Truly rain is an equilizer…some idiots claiming the new engine did it for Max….nobody could use engines to full extent…so bullshit on that.

FIA/Liberty has acted disgustingly biased the last 4 months. They should embrace that Max is one of the best ever. My hero was Prost as a teen/early adult; but I have to say, Max is as good or better than he. Hard to say due to the difference in cars; but people should embrace greatness. That’s what we saw today…Greatness.

The 2 greatest F1 people ever, were Ayrton Senna and Adrian Newey. Neither wore a kilt.
Prost was a phenomenal driver. Max has the same issue as Hamilton and Vettel. Both had dominant cars and virtually no competition.
I’m not saying Max isn’t one of the best, clearly he is but Alonso and Senna ,Prost, even Mansell drove above their cars performance levels. That’s what separates the best drivers. What Alonso did at Ferrari was exceptional. What Senna did at Williams, those guys rose above the car. Vettel got outclassed by Leclerc, and came up short.
Next year we’ll finally have drivers and teams, like the 80’s the greatest competition existed.
I’m looking forward to it.
Good season… happy to see McLaren back on top, and kinda cool to see a split between the driver’s and constructors championship again too. Tells me the competition is getting better/closer.
I just can't believe Sainz ended up at Williams. Someone who performed as well as he did (remember he had one race less points too) to only geta contract thereis crazy. Just hoping it was a move he made to get to whatever team Audi creates in 26.

This. I don’t know why they resigned him at all besides the sponsorship money. Colapinto will bring that if he can temper his crashing. The real problem is the car is designed around Max’s driving style and the others have to cope with it.
If McLaren can handle the drivers they look petty strong for next year along with Ferrari.
No arguments there; though this year I think since Miami Red Bull had the 3rd best car, and since Hungary likely the 4th best car out there so this year I think he did drive above the capability of the car. We shall see this week how well Yuki handles that car.
The Red Bull seems to be a very tempermental beast...is that the loss of Newey? Who knows... Hard to believe 1 man (even if he is legendary) makes that much of a sea-change; but then again look at Haas (I'll not mention McLaren or Ferrari as I think Seidel and Binotto helped shore up the ship). Getting rid of Steiner made an INSTANT change in their performance.
Next year will be fascinating. I think McLaren win it all (and if they do I hope it's Piastri). It'll be fascinating to see if Hamilton is done or not. I think that was very poor of Ferrari to let Sainz go. We shall see. But to end up at Williams is a travesty. It'll also be interesting to see how much Newey can fix things in the 2nd half of the season - like let's get an all new lineup there for '26. Will Newey want Max? Toto still trying? I think we may finish close to the same order as this year with RBR and Merc flipping positions.
As for 2026; boy, what do you do...does Max take a year off and see who nailed it (likely Aston with Newey or Merc with powertrain), does he stay at RBR (I think that's questionable). Does Colapinto get a deserved ride at some lower team like VCARB, Cadillac?
I don't know why Red Bull didn't try to get Sainz.
“A are done” Senna. Surely you jest. The man could not even keep with Schumacher and died trying. Newey, certainly the finest automobile aero engineer of his time, maybe all time. But as fragile as his race cars were Chapman could see the entire picture.
Senna, naw, a bully on the track, not even sure if he could keep up with cry baby, cars being equal.
I'm hoping it's Piastri as well if McLaren takes it. I prefer him a lot more over Lando, he's gottalent but I feel he's been pushed as a golden driver more than he deserves. Piastri seems more even tempered and more focused on the job.
As I said before I agree about Sainz, only thing I think may be good about it is he will get to really work on developing a car and team before he makes a (hopeful) switch to Audi in 26. Couldn't go a longway gaining that experience at Williams expense. I also am interested to see howthat Williams moves with a top tier driver. Albon showed a few flashes of speed through the season which makes me think a better pilot could push that thing better.
As far as Max, I feel like if he stays into 26 he would likely only do a 1-2 or contract and it will depend on the 25 season if he stays with RBR. If RB can prove they can keep it up top to him I don't see why he would leave unless the money (which I don't think is a motivator for him) is crazy somewhere else.
Next year should be good but I'm really looking forward to 26.

Schumacher was more of a bully and you want to bring him up? Outside of Mika he also had no competition until Alonso came.
Senna raced against the best drivers of their era, and wiped up Prost multiple times. Have Hamilton, and Schuey won in lesser cars, no......Hamilton has had the best luck of all car wise. Senna elevated the Toleman in Monaco and Balestre screwed him out of a win......the Lotus was 2 steps below the McLaren and Williams....Senna's Williams was handicapped by the rules update.
Let's also remember that Benetton was accused of cheating for traction control among other things I can't recall, but Senna outdrove his car and fought.

And, I'm not sure it's going to be worth my time to watch and be involved. Concepts they've spoken of like fastest in the middle and not at the end of the straight fly in the face or motor racing. Right now, this current formla is the best formula since the 1980s (which really involved of a competition of reliability moreso than today) as evidenced by Prost choosing to shift from 5th to 2nd directly to save wear on gearbox.

I really think the point I was trying to make is that in my opinion, Senna gets a lot more credit than he deserves. Not saying he wasn’t good, I just think several were better, a few much better and I truly wonder if his charisma added a lot more to his value as a driver than his skill level. I am not a fan. Not a fan of hamilton either. I’ve come around to Max but both he and Schumacher did tend to push other’s around early in their career. As they progressed, they became so much less so, and I have watched Schumacher race both in person and on television often during his career. Yep, I remember the hill/schumacher incident. I also remember schu, taking a dog of a Ferrari and doing a horizon job on the rest of the field on a very wet track early in his career.
Retire Newey and air tunnels and bring racing back. (On real tracks, not concrete lined parking lots)
Senna vs Prost, much more evenly matched then everyone talks about.
If you use todays points system Prost takes sennas title and Prost had 7 titles total.
Not a Prost fan but senna is overrated. Magic behind the wheel, but racing is about consistency and points not just pole position

Or...bring wind tunnels back!!! Seems they don't get much tunnel time. Maybe? I don't know; but whatever it is, the formula has converged and now we're seeing spectacularly close racing (points wise).
However, I could not agree with you more. Proper tracks. Not street tracks. Yes, Vegas had a lot of passing. Yes, Saudi Arabia is downright scary (I remember the 2021 lap Max was on (before he crashed at last turn) and it was truly something to behold - but....still a street track. The only semi-interesting track is Baku (sadly a Tilke beast)- mainly because it's running right next to a world heritage site. But...still a street circuit.
The fact that Spa is going to be every other year pisses me off. Spa, Interlagos, Suzuka - never should be taken off the list...ever. Before we ban Newey to retirement and racecar engineering, can we please ban, PERMANENTLY, Herman Tilke???? TWO good tracks is all he has. COTA - certainly a great track (not epic like the 3 above) and Turkey. Maybe Austria but I'm not sure just how much he did there. That's it to my memory. He has F'd up enough tracks my judgement he should not even be allowed on an F-1 track's grounds. Yet, he designed Vegas!!!
I had a design I laid out whilst at University and I'd put that up against any Tilke track ever made. Probably needs to be "widened" and maybe a few turns opened up; but all told, my 3.5 mile circuit was my dream project had I won LOTTO.

He late braked into every turn to get that time...he's the "King of the late brakers." Many suspect this is why he couldn't adapt to the ground-effects cars is that his technique of late braking unsettle the aerodynamics a bit.
Looking at the old A-1 Ring. A lot of double apexers there. Though, I know personally I suck at these double apex turns. Then again, I had no ground effects. I suspect they'd have had to put a chicane in a Valvoline-Gerade. Speeds already nuts going to to what's a modified Bosch Kurve (to look like Jochen). But yes...another Tilke re-do of a classic track that had fallen into disrepair.

I personally love the McLaren Ferrari dynamic from the 80’s. Looking forward to seeing it again. I love that Williams is on a position to work their way up. Haas has seriously impressed lately and I think Ollie is the real deal.
