6mm creedmoor short barrel

So glad I found this thread. Although we don’t have most of the powders listed due to our crappy laws, some of the ingredients have been banned. I’m shocked they are still allowed in California 🤣

I’ve got a 20” 6mm creed with Lothar Walther barrel and with 42.7gr RS62 and 87gr v-Max only getting 2700fps which is far too slow. Confirmed by the speeds listed on here. I’m going to try Viht N140 next. N150 was to slow and didn’t give obturation, I got spot on the rim of the case even with going over book data. I had people run the book data through quick load and the results were interesting. According to that it was way below working pressure and shouldn’t be used. Just in case anyone else has to use viht, it might be useful information.

My rifle built on a sako 85 with a kKC laminate. I had planned to use a McMillan but they stopped inletting for sako just as I had it built.

I’ve built a 6mm Creedmoor with an 18-inch barrel and it shoots the 75 and 87 grain V-MAX rounds really well. The 18-inch barrel gives you solid velocity and accuracy, even with a suppressor attached. I’ve noticed that with the suppressor, there’s a bit more weight upfront, but it doesn’t mess with the balance too much. I’d recommend going with the 18-inch if you want a good balance of velocity and portability.

Just a 19" barrel cut up. I'll have data in a few weeks. Reviewing the shorty thread and other threads, 2850-2900 with 110+ gr seems quite possible. Should be a handy package
My 20" 6cm barrel only gets me 2806 with a 108 and a pretty spicy load of 39gr N550. What powder are you planning to use to get that velocity?

I've got a 6 CM with a 19" Osprey, 1-7" twist.

My loads below are all with H4350:

Lapua SRP with CCI BR4, 103 ELDx @ 3040 fps
Peterson LRP with CCI BR2, 105 BTHP @ 3000 fps
Peterson LRP with CCI BR2, 108 ELDm @ 2915 fps

I did work up to the 3,000 fps range with RL-26 and the 108s, but I'm about out of the pixie dust.

I put together an 18.5 inch 6 creed. Just started using it over the past month. 2-2 on SC Whitetails, an 8 pt and 7 pt. ARC Archimedes action, TS Customs spun me up a Benchmark Barrel for it. Dropped it in a KRG Bravo and put a Dead Air Nomad L on it to quiet things down. So far only have it zeroed with Factory Hornady 103eldx since it was in the middle of our deer season when I started zeroing. Plan to play with some different factory loads in the future.

What kind of velocity are you getting out of the factory ammo with the 18.5in barrel?

We run a 16.5" 6mm Creed on my son's rifle for crop damage work on several local farms. With a 6" long suppressor it is still handy getting in and out of vehicles at night. We're running 95 TMK and 87 Vmax both around 3000fps and that combo has been extremely effective on chicken and apple thieves alike. Zero'd for 250yd it's PBR is out to 350 without any trouble.

He started using it when he was 6, now he's almost 10 and I had to put it in a new stock for him. His 6yo little brother has a 22 Creed 18" in the old stock and he's working the steel plates and itching to go notch his first tag.
What powder and jump are you liking with the tmk?

Also, how’s the terminal ballistics with them been?

Considering shooting these instead of 108 bergers

Have you found any 95tmk? I have them on back order at a few places, haven't found any for a few years. It's a great bullet for terminal performance.

I have not, but I’m thinking I have plenty of time before deer/antelope season to get some picked up. Knowing Sierra they’ll be OOS for eternity though.

Are you seeing pass throughs or full fragmentation?

Heavy fragmentation, some exits that were 2-4" in size. I only killed a 6 animals with the. 4-5 years ago, been out of the bullets since and that short freebore barrels was toast shortly after.

I ran them in an 18in 6cm that had a 0.100 freebore chamber. 3050-3080 shot really well with TS15.5, saami spec throat is too long to load close to lands, but I bet they shoot well somewhere 70-90k off as well.

Have a 20in 6gt with 120fb being cut, want to run the tmk in that as well

I am burning through old stock of the 95TMK that I've had on the shelf for years, I'm waiting on more from a couple of suppliers but haven't gotten anything yet.

We see pass throughs on small whitetails and predators when shot into soft areas like the ribs. The bullets are pretty soft construction, which isn't surprising considering they're a target bullet, and they fragment quickly. We don't have problems with lethality due to fairly short range and being careful to make sure the shots are solid with the kids.

I wouldn't advocate it as an ideal bullet for whitetails in a usual hunting situation but we are using them on farms doing crop damage work and we aren't looking for the biggest deer, we're just shooting the ones requested by the farmers and we can be very picky about taking shots. When we actually hunt in stead of "hunt" I shoot the 100 Cayugas because I know I can shoot the animal from just about any angle and be assured of vitals.

We shoot the 95's and 87's in the chamber that we chamber as a standard practice in the shop, neither is fussy about seating depth. Here's the load I use for both

Peterson 6CM Brass LRP
42.2 H4350
CCI BR2 primer
COAL 2.805 (87 VMAX)
COAL 2.835 (95 TMK)

Neither is a hot load with those bullets, but they shoot hole in hole and they're jumping around 80 thousandths.
