7mm SAW

Initially 42.6gr varget, 2.935in 162 eld-m, 2775 fps out of a 22in tube then it sped up so I lowered it to 42.3gr. It was my most accurate load.
Then last year I worked up a load with the 145lrx because I wanted to try monos for short range hunting and limit the lead in the meat. Worked great on the bear I shot last fall. DRT.
With the 145LRX
42.5gr varget. 2.880in 145 LRX, 2875 fps.
All Alpha brass SRP.
If you have any of that load pressure software (can't remember the name of it at the moment) what would it say max load for a 175 Elite would be, seated to 2.235" to ogive?
I use the same Alpha SRP brass, and use CCI 400's
Out of my 20" barrels, 48.0 gr StaBall 6.5 with the 175's was getting me ~2,760(ish)...
I just tested some 150 TGK....great with velocity but best I could do was about 1" groups, the 162 ELD-M are hard to beat.

Just loaded up 100 of my 175 Berger Elite Hunters in some 2x fired Alpha SRP brass. Running CCI 400's and 48.0gr of StaBall 6.5. It's what shot the best in my my Saw II barrel that CarbonSix had to send me. During load development it shot a 0.562" 5-shot group, which is exponentially better than the last barrel that wouldn't even dip below 1 MOA, so we'll see if she gets better as it finishes breaking-in. Barrel only has 50 rounds down it so far. It seems to have stabilized for the most part with ES/SD numbers, but does occasionally have a fast shot, so we'll see.
Here was the best group last session... This load is moving along at 2,748 FPS MV from a 20" barrel, and had a 20 FPS ES, and 7.7 SD.

I can't believe you are getting the velocity. Must be the staball. Playing with my 22" this weekend
Why would you do a 7mm SAW when you can run a 7 mm Fury hybrid case and really get some velocity improvements...with up to 80,000 psi on tap.
Here is a 180 gr Berger in a 6.8X 51 hybrid case. More capacity and much higher pressures than the 7 SAW so one can really achieve those magnum velocities in reality... if ya want.
All ya need is the reamer.
Or your standard fast twist 7mm-08 with hybrid cases and your factory dies will smoke the 7 SAW in velocity...change nothing but the cases.

Yeah but its a much better option that will actually make high magnum velocity if needed or throttled back for an accuracy node.
"Stories of wearing bolts"... are from those who do not shoot a lot of hybrid cases.
Even Federals new 7 mm BC will out perform the 7 SAW in soon to be available factory rifles...plus a huge variety of factory short magnums, Ackley improved, 7mm-08 and .284 Win etc. Flood the market already with similar or better performance options readily available...
I sold my 7mm magnums because it's not needed. The 7mm saw does what I need it to. It's a very efficient cartridge. Sorry you don't feel that way.
You should... I'm getting good ES/SD numbers (when barrels are finally settled) in other cartridges and rifles, and extremely good velocities. So, I can't really complain. Brass life might be somewhat shorter than other folks prefer, but the way I look at it, if it's shooting good, that's obviously where that barrel/bullet/powder combo likes to be pushed to. So, as long as it's not blowing primers, or causing major swipes, roll with it.
If you had a reamer and dies cut to where that case fire-forms and blows out the walls to a 10º taper from base-to-shoulder junction, and a 40º shoulder (just like an Ackley Improved case) with a normal length .277 neck opened to .284, that would be a true "pushing magnum velocities" monster with the heavies, and I'd buy a reamer and dies from you.
I don't care what wildcat or standard cartridge ya choose, even this one is fine if that's what ya want...for you.
But this ain't no big thing, the 284 Win for example has been in thousand yard shooting for a very long time.
And the standard 308 Win will shoot 200 gr SMK at 2740 fps ave in 22" 9 twist barrel. Giving over 1200 ft/bs of energy at 1000 yds with Lapua brass at the 1200 to 1500 ft elevation.
So there's that plus any 7 mm that will shoot Lapua or Alpha brass can be improved upon by putting a bit more pressure into the brass...cause it will take it.

You can send this hybrid cased cartridge or similar with your specifications to any reamer maker and they will happily make you a finish reamer.
The 277 hybrid case is already an improved case but you can put any shoulder angle ya want.
I just put a 7 mm Berger 180 gr in a new 277 Fury hybrid case and seated it. That simple. That's all ya need for real improvement.
I don't do 7mm these days just left over components from shooting that caliber fir many years.
But the hybrid case improvements are real.
Like 6.5 CM 150 gr SMK at 3000 fps, or 140 gr at 3100 fps in a factory chambered rifle with your dies...nothing to change but going to the hybrid case...works on 7mm-08 too.
Just another concept to consider with no changes to your existing factory chamber, or dies.

Yes, I know how it works... I've drawn and designed lots of cartridges over the years. Just was saying, if you happened to already have one, I would buy a set of dies and rent the reamer from you.
