The money Alberta make from oil pays for the rest of the country. The biggest chunk goes to the french province (where everyone also loses 50% of their paycheck).
His goal is to get Trudeau's party out of power. Even with a different leader, they're still a bunch of climate cultists that want to stop oil production, ban pipelines and stop mineral exploration. They're completely controlled by the WEF. It's likely why Trudeau has to have a second call with Trump. He needs to go back to his WEF handlers to get approval for what he's going to offer Trump. Pierre Poilievre will be FAR better to deal with.

The beauty of this entire trolling saga that Canada's low intelligence leftists, including the ones booing the US National Anthem at sports stadiums recently, fail to realize, is that just by popular sentiment alone, MOST of Canada's flyover country will join the USA immediately given the chance. And once the breadbasket of Canada has seceeded, the leftist enclaves to the east and far west will find themselves in the same situation as Gaza. Isolated, and COMPLETELY reliant on goods and services shipped in by rail and truck to continue surviving.
Have they forgotten about the Freedom Convoy of 2022, where they originated from, and the fact that they have not forgotten about how they were treated by their government? Canada's entire boundary can be changed and redrawn overnight just by a few main breadbasket provinces organizing and declaring sovereignty, followed by application to join the Union. Not a single shot would be fired, unless the leftist ruling elite and their mooks want to challenge a secession petition by force.

All of that + Tariffs are to take the Northwest Territories/Yukon/Arctic Circle. Canada lacks the industrial base to extract all of the resources out of their frontiers. Not that our Arctic development is that advanced, but I can see yet another tit-for-tat because if we start to build aluminum mills, expand mining, LNG/Fracking/Offshore Drilling, et al we will increase the trade deficit with them except for maybe lumber, and maple syrup?
When you add that together with the leverage, and the fact that Canada is effectively our Protectorate, we can likely get them to just give us everything near the Arctic circle. When you combine that with Greenland now the Entire Arctic is covered on 3 fronts. If some Fallout universe Alaskan attack were to happen it would fail since now instead of Anchorage you have to contend with Thule and whatever God-awful bases/depots we build up in the Great White North.
Even the most "conservative" Province in Canada is pretty much just Michigan/Wisconsin when it comes to voting demographics. We should be absolutely stupid to incorporate ANY of their territory as a proper state

yea,we defend them just like europe and their contribution is negligible. they are also eaten up with embedded Chinese,like we are. actually wish they would stay up there. the rich ones have been coming down here for decades. waitresses hate them. no or 2% tipping. their driving sucks and FL is over crowded anyway,esp during "the season". loss of snowbird and tourist $s wouldn't hurt my feelings 1 bit. really just leads to price increases for us permanent residents and contributes to the trashing of the state generally.

I think it’s both. I think it’s obviously a matter of leverage, but, I think that if Canada bent over enough and Trump saw an opportunity that was small pain to the US, he would very much annex Canada into a territory.

It's been sad for a long time. The transfer payments have been around for decades. I'm not sure why Alberta stays in Canada. They're treated like dog shit by the eastern provinces, but those provinces couldn't support their spending without getting that money from Alberta oil.
