Turns out Judge John McConnell's daughter (Catherine McConnell) holds a Dept of Education senior advisory position (appointed by Pedo Pedro) funded by USAID. I concur that the judge should have recused himself to avoid any appearance of self-interest or impropriety.

Some people pay a lot of federal income taxes, some not so much. Let's call it $30k yearly average. $1 billion dollars......that's the total taxes yearly for 33,333 people. If the average NFL stadium holds 70,000 people, that is half a stadium. If that $30K was paid by one person, that person would have to work 33,333 years to pay off the billion dollars.
50 or 52 billion....what's the difference! Just the yearly taxes for 66,666 people.
Imagine if every person that walked out of the NFL stadium handed you the keys and title to their car. You might have close to $2 billion dollars, if the average car value was $30K.

Tax credits are going to run out for most of his companies anyway so this looks good for him but in reality it's just 6 months of sacrifice (I think they are set to expire this summer). Love the guy and what he's doing btw

With these guys aligned interests is all that matters. Musk wants to get to Mars and he was fined $140k for using drinkable water to cool a starship launch. He recognizes reduced government regulation is the only way he gets to Mars in his lifetime (and if he doesn't do it, maybe no one will). He is also personally upset with the level of idiocracy in the US (where he came to leave the issues of South Africa behind). He has openly spoken about parallels between the US and South Africa so no doubt he would rather fix our country before it gets to where he came from.
Trump is an American and yes he has a big ego. That ego is bruised from a stolen 2020 election and multiple assassination attempts.

Other than protecting your brand or income I cannot for the life of me understand anyone having a problem with Musk auditing government, but being ok with the government auditing them?
