Blizzard Warning. Can’t tell but 8 plus inches of snow on top off about 0.25 of ice
Concrete in the shop still isn’t ready to drive on…. Just happy the wife’s uncle’s skid is still here.

I used to live very close to there; Palmetto… hit the South end of the Sunshine Skyway, and turn right…you’ll eventually get to my old house in Terra Ceia.

I've fished Terra Ceia bay quite a bit. If you had a house on the water, I've probably fished under your dock

The first days of February have been on the cold side...

The above was around 4 am today, it did drop a couple more points as the sun peeked up. Forecast predicts a high of plus 4 today with a continued negative deep freeze through next week.
Earlier this week there was windchills reported at -50, so it is warming up a little.

Not to sound like a climate alarmist, but this was pretty standard February weather when I was a kid in the 80's/ early 90's. I recall always having a couple weeks in January/February when it would never get above 0. That was normal. A lot more snow in the earlier part of winter as well. We get much less snow and not as prolonged periods of real cold now. This winter has been especially dry. I don't claim to know the reason but it is different than I grew up with. Wisconsin weather for reference.

Got out this weekend. Everything was great except for the 20+ MPH winds.

The best part, for me, of an upland bird hunt is to watch the dogs work the field. 🥰 I helped raise 2 Vizsla's(2 females, 1 litter apart) as a young man and we took our girls on quite a few pheasant, quail and dove hunts. Watching my girls seize up on a point and flush em' out was really special. Those dogs were in heaven working the fields for my dad, sister & I. Damn good memories!

Happy hunting!

Just finished the meet and greet with Richard Blade, where he signed our copy of his book, and about to watch him MC a show with ABC and Howard Jones.

Reliving the ‘80s at its best!

Synopsis edit: Great show!

1) Richard Blade is a surprisingly good story teller, and a genuinely nice person
2) Martin Fry still has the pipes, and is still a great showman…should have been the headliner IMHO
3) Howard Jones is a nutjob, but entertaining…and sang rather well. Looks like a mini John Lithgow these days!
4) Fuck ton of old farts at this show! 😝

Funny part for me was HoJo’s encore of “Things can only get better” where he was pretty clearly alluding to Trump being in office…he was smart enough not to push that too far here in Tejas though. When he started in on that bit, I leaned over to my wife and said that what he’ll probably never truly understand is that things are getting better now! 😎

Edit #2: And Nick Beggs from Kajagoogoo on bass guitar was was a pretty cool surprise. It was a total freak show, but fun! LoL

CA-299E about a mile out of Canby. Most of the Pit River Valley flooded out. At the time of this photo, The water appears to have come up at least 5 feet. We got almost 6” of rain at my house in the valley that storm.
I thought it looked familiar....I come hunt out of Aidin whenever I can draw the tag.
You work for Cal-Trans?

Correct. Siskiyou, Lassen and Modoc are the counties that most of my projects are in. Remodeling Roadways has been a good career, and I still get called out on some Disaster Responses, but not like while I was with CDF.
