Which combo would be easier on a suppressor and which would throw me off target less when trying to spot hits?

Plan is to use my Nosler Sr-30Alti (titanium and aluminum construction) which has a maximum temp of 425F per nosler.

My thoughts are the 308 might have a little less powder ignition inside of the suppressor and might heat it up less. Based on 16" 308 barrel volume at 1.19 in3 and 18" 6.5 CM at 0.98 in3. I could 100%be wrong though.

Complete beginner long range shooter here and planning to setup a rig. Looking for real world experience and gut feel. Thanks.

Do you have to use that can? Doesnt seem like it offers anything special, and a full ti can from almost any other maker will tolerate way more heat for the same weight.

On the other question, the 6.5 has 25% less recoil approximately. Neither should be particularly hard on the can.

What's your planned volume of fire?

I'd use something else if you're running PRS stages. Slow fire range work or hunting and you're going to be just fine.

I already have the can and would prefer not to buy another to keep costs down.

Just 5 round mags on a bolt action so no mag dumps. Maybe if I'm worried about not overheating the can it'll help me slow down and take my time shooting too.

I'd assume it would be more slow fire range work, just don't have enough experience to really know what the volume of fire will be.

The can has handled 5 shot strings from a 22" 243 pretty well.

It doesn’t matter. You’re way overthinking this. Do you want a 6.5CM, or do you want a .308 Win? That’s what it comes down to. The 6.5CM has 25% less recoil, but both are capable of being just as accurate as one another. Bore diameters don’t correlate with accuracy.

Don’t overthink it. Get a 6.5 creed because the 18” will have better velocity and better BC weight for weight and less recoil. Buy as much ammo as you can stomach and shoot the barrel out. That’s how you’ll benefit the most. If you wear out a barrel AND a suppressor, you’ll be in a good place.

I have both. Easier to stay on target with the 6.5. I shoot 123's 6.5 and 155's .308.....though neither hard to spot shots. No matter, the 6.5 18" will be superior and supersonic longer than the 16" .308 Go with the 6.5 I built my mine as a shorter suppresssed hunting rifle but it is capable and will make hits at 1000. The 16 .308 dies at around 800 even with 155 Bergers and absolutely with factory 168 and 175's.
