i guess the Donald has legitimately too busy to follow up with his idea of abolishing this abortion. but,it's for the farmers,it's for the children,it's for the environment. but the founders did it! should have been dumped when the excuse for went away a long time ago.

Imagine how good your life must be that you have time to be angry about daylight savings time.

Who gives a shit.

Trump is trying to eliminate trillions of dollars in waste, fraud and abuse, and you're pissed because he hasn't taken a break from that to make 6pm the same all year? Jesus christ..

Obviously you ain't doing nothin....wanna come over and wash my P/U?

^^^ This. Germany was the first to implement daylight saving time, during wwi. It was a fuel saving effort. Giving people an extra hour of daylight in the evening allowed more people to be outside later into the evening, reducing power generation requirements during peak usage hours. Much of Europe and America followed suit.

It wasn’t the founding fathers, and that dst was invented by Ben Franklin is a myth. DST was repealed after wwi. It was brought back for wwii, but shelved after the war. It wasn’t until the mid 60s that the US went to the bi-annual dst dance that we do today.

Sunrise in my location this morning was at 6:37 am. Tomorrow, sunrise is at 7:35. Moving sunrise an hour later doesn’t help with morning chores. But, when I was in highschool, the last bell was at 4:05pm. Sunset today is at 6:18pm. Tomorrow, sunset is at 7:19. That extra hour of daylight in the evening would be beneficial for evening chores, outdoor after school jobs, and extra-curricular activities. And, if people are out playing little league, jogging, etc; they’re not running their home lights or A/C at full blast during peak hours. This is the reason for DST.

Geezus H Krist!! One of thee most painful posts I've seen in years!! This is like Tourettes and Illiteracy had a stillborn.

When I was working 24 hour shifts in the ER, I saw no need for DST, since one day was like the rest, or I was sleeping. So, Instead of Leaping forward and Falling back, I just kept leaping forward, every-whenever-it-happened. So now I am living 2 years in advance of everyone else. Living in the future is amazing. But no flying cars yet.

Just had to crush my dream, didn't ya?
"Meet George Jetson. Jane, his wife. His boy Elroy...."

As it turns out, with the exception of 4, all of my clocks are automatic and change on their own. All my computers do, my smart phone does, all of those things. My watches sync with the atomic clock. Even my HVAC's thermostat is automatic.. The only clocks that need manual changing are the one on my oven, the desk clock near my bed, The one for my security camera system (which I think does change automatically anyway but I don't program it properly), and my VoIP phone system. My microwave needs it as well, but I never bother to set it because it keeps going out whenever there's the slightest power glitch.

The only sane option is to “spring forward” M-F and “fall back” Sa-Su.

It will really only inconvenience the curmudgeons and Luddites that can’t figure out how to set their clocks anyway. This is the only reason it’s kept around, so preserving the win there. Everyone else is using IPhones that automatically set themselves, and won’t know the difference.

And, for those that “aren’t morning people,” it’s an extra hour of sleep every Saturday morning.

Is there still pussy in the future???

Here’s a thought

If you don’t want children going to school in the dark in the morning, how about changing the time school starts Instead of changing the time of the country?
DST pushes sunrise an hour later. If school children going to school in the dark were the reason for DST, we’d move the clocks back (making sunrise earlier, not later).

This is, however, an argument for falling back in the winter, when days are short.

I actually seen a clip yesterday where DJT addressed this issue. He said the people were basically split 50-50 on this issue. In his opinion it was so close there was no benefit in changing it.
It would still be a 50-50 issue either way, he would be satisfying no one group.

Also I bet most people on here are up before sunrise and awake after sunset so what does it really matter.
Real world example…

School lets out at ~ 3 pm. It’s a 2 hour drive to my hunting property. Early season, during DST; I can pick up my son from school, make the drive, and we can slide in for that golden hour on Friday evening. After the time change? Nope, not making the evening hunt.

Just take him out of the indoctrination camp early.

That was one of the original reasons for DST, so dairy farmers could have daylight to do the morning milking. Also so farm kids could do their morning chores before they go to school.

You have it completely backwards.
It was only for the city folks / factory workers.

DST makes you have LESS light in the morning because you are now waking up much earlier so if you had "morning chores" to do, you'd change from doing them in the light to doing them in the dark.

Remember this morning when it was suddenly much darker when you woke up?

I like it. I wait all winter for time to change so I actually have some daylight to do something after work.

It's really only a PITA two days out of the year.... the two change days. And the more "Atomic clock" sync devices you have, the better.

The greater overall issue is dealing with the changes in the amount of darkness vs. light. Living in FL, it's been much easier to deal with since there isn't all that much relative change in daylight (we get about the same, given our latitude). When I lived in the NYC metro area, the difference was more pronounced. Much more daylight in the summer and much more darkness in the Winter. Darkness would arrive around 4:45p - 5:00p in the Winter. And one Winter, they decided to start DST in February, figuring more people would use more electricity in the afternoon/evening. That meant we had to wait for the school bus in total darkness in the morning. Sunrise wasn't until like after 8am. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Then again, it could be Seattle in the late fall. I was there once in early November. Darkness began at 4:10p. Totally weird!

sometimes people only consider their own viewpoints. I actually like DST. I like the extra hour of light end of the day during the summer.
