TRG appreciation thread - Part III

Brand New TRG 42 338LM. Still waiting for the bipod, longer backbone with ITRS and a 5-25x56 PMII with MSR2 reticle.

New Snipers Hide forum enthusiast and TRG owner. Absolutely in love with this rifle, haven't had this much excitement in a long while.

Questions- I've searched high and low and seen conflicting information. Am I crazy in thinking there's no way the Tikka CTR mags *don't* fit the A1? Even if I had to trim some plastic from the base plate? Or have they gone and made them just different enough to not fit?

Beyond that, I guess this is also a WTB for .308 TRG 22A1 mags. Eager to learn more!

Tikka first CTR versions originally came factory with Sako TRG-22 mags. The business end is the same.

First attempt at load development on my 22 A1 between rain storms today. My rifle showed a decent liking to the factory Hornady 130gr ELD-M (.260 Rem), so I just copied the seating depth and ran a mid range charge of N160.

Barrel has 65 rounds on it now, so we're just getting started. I've also got a ton of .264 projos around from my 6.5CM and 6.5x47L builds.

Managed to chunk a shot on my very first group too. It happens and it counts, but where the cross hairs were when the shot broke should put that low right one in with the others.

Also had some guests come and watch me shoot the entire 25 rounds. They were directly behind my berm at about 280 yards.

If i keep it i may cerakote it. I think I've figured out some things and I'm blaming my bipods. Going to switch back to a harris. Seemes to have improved my shooting in my other rifles. If not I'll likely sell it and possibly pick up a older trg22.
The old ones are gold. You just have to live with less easy adjustability, thats the only downside. There is the folder though...

Cerebral, thanks for the link, I've perused that thread a fair bit. I actually have messaged you, I wanted to talk to you a bit about 3D printing for the Sako. You have an existing design I wanted to see about modifying.

Appreciate the input!

So i decided to stay classic with my classic TRGs. Would have the option of a PMII 5-25x56 with MSR2 reticle. Right now there is a PMII 4-16x50 mounted on the 338. The 308 has the 3-12x50. Might lower the mount on the 338 but went for the higher one initially since i ordered the longer backbone with ITRS rail for thermals. Will decide when the ITRS arrives so i can check how much height i need.

Great rifles, i love them!

@DKN83 the 3-12 is my gold standard optic. The glass is excellent and has the most forgiving parallax out of any scope I've used.

Really hoping to get my hands on a 4-16 one day.
Both are my favorite S&B PMII beside the old 3-20x50 which is a very good hybrid concerning higher magnifications.

Exactly my experience, forgiving eye box/parallax.

My 4-16x50 cost me about 800 Euros. No one wanted it since there is no Illumination. Phenomenal glass!

The 3-20 is also an excellent optic. I prefer it over the 5-25. Just wish mine had a gen2xr or T3. She has the T2 in it. (it doesn't live on a 22lr...). No illumination wouldn't put me off of a 4-16, only time I've ever used it has been hunting and I didn't "need" it.

I do prefer the 3-20x50 over the 5-25x56 aswell. You can still order them but they are not listed anymore unfortunately.
The 3-20x50 delivered with the G28 is incredible, but super expensive...

😳 what’s so special about the G28 version? Just HK markings and various paraphernalia (like mounts)?
Reticle only available with this Version, HK branded, more robust due to different internals etc.

Not worth that money though. I payed the same for the whole rifle including optics and supressor. Crazy stuff. They now try to charge around 19 000 for the whole package. Absolutely insane and not worth the money at all.

I would get another one of the optic though if i find a used one for a reasonable price. Unfortunately missed one go for 2500 Euros not too long ago. The reticle is nice and i like the single turn turrets.
