What be the easiest chassis for to install a Rem 700 clone barreled short action into? Don't want to have to take it to a gunsmith if possible. Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I will check into those. That depends, things like trigger hangers and recoil lugs that increase the dimensions outside of a stock R700, make it interesting.
I'm happy with an AI AT-X AICS, but that is the only chassis I have ever owned.
Would be a Surgeon 591 short action with Jewell trigger. Any thoughts on that? It's generaly very easy. A couple things that would need gunsmith attention is if the recoil lug is thicker than the cutout in the chassis. Or if the trigger or trigger hanger interfere with the cutout in the chassis.

Newer action. Guess have to find a chassis then ask them?If it's an older 591, no problem. If there is a newer 591, maybe.
I believe the older AICS had some interference with a Jewell trigger. It seems the more recent chassis have a little larger opening for various triggers.
In the Manners-what holds the action to the stock and does it require bedding?Should drop into any modern chassis including the Manners stocks with their Mini Chassis in them. Had one a Manners.

So would there be screws that go into the bottom of the action to hold it in the chassis or?The mini chassis is attached to the stock at Manners and no bedding required. Bolt in and go. Have had at least a dozen stocks with this set up and they worked great with at least 5 different types of actions including a 591.
Trigger hanger?KRG. Torque the 2 provided bolts and you're done. No trigger hangers though. I have three KRGs, all Bravo models. $400 and you can't beat them on accuracy.

You install the trigger into the hanger and then screw the hanger into the action.Trigger hanger?
Thanks much.Yes just like any chassis or stock there are action screws that screw into the bottom of the action and hold it in the chassis. Below is a pic of my 591 in a Manners with mini chassis. I will see if I can find any pics of the mini chassis area of the stock but there are pics on Manners page.

Thanks. So if no trigger hanger is that more difficult? The trigger is already installed in the barreled action I have. You install the trigger into the hanger and then screw the hanger into the action.

The hangers make the triggers footprint larger and some chassis don’t have accommodations for it so you may have to get the dremel out in some cases.
No, most dont have a trigger hanger and no hanger is considered "normal".Thanks. So if no trigger hanger is that more difficult? The trigger is already installed in the barreled action I have.
No trigger hanger makes it easierThanks. So if no trigger hanger is that more difficult? The trigger is already installed in the barreled action I have.
Since the Surgeon has built in recoil lug - then for that chassis you wouldn't use recoil lug clamp or?
Thanks. As Rob states, you are really overthinking this, and all the extra info being thrown your way isn't helping.
Buy the chassis you want, and install your action.
