It's refreshing to see such a unique left-handed M40A1 style build, thank you for posting it! Even though it's obviously not clone correct, it's still a very unique and respectful build that captures the spirit of the M40A1 while making it useful for lefties. I like this a lot, it's good to change things up at times and just have fun with a build.A lot of money and time. And she may be fugly for the purests but she is a beauty to me!

Thank you! I tried to have it as clone correct as possible with the exception of being left handed. It was definitely a fun project! Although the scope and mount were a pain. The scope mount is from TBA. Seems to be holding up just fine. It's refreshing to see such a unique left-handed M40A1 style build, thank you for posting it! What are these from? Maybe m40a3?? I have several sets of low serial numbered usmc issued rings with simrad caps that came with unertl cmp auction scopes. The rings and simrads were pulled off and the scopes were the used on m40a1 builds. The simads and rings were all painted up and I don't want to go scraping looking for numbers. ThanksIf anyone has one or a lead I’m searching for 2 of these B-630 simrad caps

It works. I built one 10 years ago.Hey folks, not too sure where to ask this. But i have an idea for a clone-ish build. An M40A5 but in 300wm. Would the surefire muzzle break handle 300wm?? I don’t see why not, but before spending money i figure id ask.
Thanks!

That is a B621 model simrad cap. Made to use on M24s with the leupold mk4 steel rings.A lot of recent SIMRAD discussion in here. Can someone provide some information on what rings these would be paired with and what rifle they would’ve been on? They are 30mm.
Appreciate it!That is a B621 model simrad cap. Made to use on M24s with the leupold mk4 steel rings.

Question: I’m doing a MARSOC A3 build with DD Ross metal. Should I roll with E or G prefix?#40Fridays View attachment 8656452
E for sureQuestion: I’m doing a MARSOC A3 build with DD Ross metal. Should I roll with E or G prefix?
The Marines started getting E prefix receivers around 1999/2000, and they received a large order of E receivers in 2001. The Marines got a ton of G prefix receivers in 2005, which is right around the time MARSOC was using their customized A3's (I can't remember the exact year off the top of my head). So, you really can't go wrong with either prefix, but the E prefix could be more prevalent in the actual rifles. Remember, E676xxxx is easily the best known A3 serial number range, and is immediately recognizable to any M40 collector/clone builder. When in doubt, always go with an E676xxxx receiver for an A3!Question: I’m doing a MARSOC A3 build with DD Ross metal. Should I roll with E or G prefix?
Sir, I read your post stating that you might have some MRT Slings. If you haveI have talked to Dan in the past, but didn't get the barrel story.
I've spent many years tracking down parts and have been able to complete a few rifles with some "rare" parts. I do take one of my clone rifles with me when I set up every year at our local Military show.
My buddy Harry has done the same. We always talk build progress and other clone world gossip lol. It's a good time. He usually has a clone'ish rifle or parts with him at the big military show in Louisville.
I've found in my experience that the hard-core collectors of unicorn type parts is a very tight knit group that hardly ever post anywhere or list much if anything for sale. Most of the "rare" parts I've gotten has been done by text with contacts I've made along the way. Can
M40rifle .com was a good site, but sadly... it dosen't exist anymore.
I didn't go spec on my A3'ish, it is 6.5cm with a barrel nut set up for easy barrel swaps/caliber changes (pic below). The drag bag is/was an issued piece I believe. I have another completed A3 barreled action, M24 trigger, SB 3-12, Ross issued rail, and other stuff ready to go if I decide to build "full spec" A3 clone down the road. It's actually set up as an "A2" right now. I've talked to Dan about the A2 before. "Officially" there was never an A2, but more of a testing before the A3. Search M40A2 on the site if you care to know more.
Let me if you need a MRT sling and have a certain date in mind... I will look through the extras that I have.
Beautiful rifle and it's an amazing piece of USMC GWOT history! I'd recommend posting a few photos of the rifle and maybe even a range report (with photos of targets too) in one of the XM3 threads that we have open on this forum. Some people specifically subscribe to threads they enjoy, and they'll get a new post notification for that thread if you post your XM3 in an XM3 thread. You're rifle is too nice to get buried in an M40xx thread, and it will keep this thread on track with the M40xx theme. A lot of people will be able to see your photos and information if you post it in an XM3 specific thread, so that's just my suggestion.View attachment 8660234View attachment 8660236
Not a m40 but it's still an amazing piece of USMC sniper history. I was thrilled to send couple rounds down range with this genuine XM-3 at buddy's facility down in Texas. Beautiful rifle.
Thanks for the compliment! I will repost it in the xm3 thread. Unfortunately I wasn't able to shoot a grouping out of it, but my buddy confirmed it still shoots true and accurate.Beautiful rifle and it's an amazing piece of USMC GWOT history! I spy with my trained observer eye, badassery...
Yes, there are a few examples of the early large butthook McMillan A4 stocks in private collections that were sold to civilians in the very beginning of the production run. However, even those early civilian A4 stocks are very rare. One of the members of this forum has one on one of his M40A3 clones.Did McMillan sell the early version of the A4, the “big hook” on the open market? I acquired one, just curious if it’s got any history or not. Thanks
What a fantastic collection.Figured I’d share the 40 family photo now that they are all done. Left to right
Big hook A3 w/ Unertl
T&E A3 w/ 8541
Marsoc A3 w/ MVP rail and SB 4-16
MIRS A3 w/ mil spec NF 3-15
Tranny A3 w/ PGW and 8541
A5 w/ 8541a
A6 w/ 8541a but soon to be 8541 glass

Thank you! Trust me I’m low man on the totem pole when it comes to some on here but I do love the M40 rifles. Definitely my favorite service weapon of all timeWhat a fantastic collection.

Thank you! I’ll be taking the plunge on the A1 soon. Wanting to wrap up this A5 if I can find a take off stock for it first. I have a few parts collected to chip away at an a1 build also. Hunting a scope for that one also at the momentPlease don't sell yourself short, with a collection like this, you're far from being the low man on the totem pole. Now that I've sold most of my M40xx stuff, I get to claim the low position, lol. You've put a ton of time/money/effort and, most importantly, dedication into this outstanding collection. Your M40xx collection is easily one of the best ones out there, and it would be great to see some more group photos of these rifles.
Looking at your group photo, I can see that you might need a few parts from me to help round out your collection. I have a few different versions of the M40A1/A3 Unertl scope cover and some welded M40A1 transitional scope mounts. That's if you plan on building any of the vintage M40 and M40A1 sniper rifles. I have Major Dick Culver's original USMC M40 available, if you want an original rifle instead of a clone build.
Your collection is excellent, especially when it comes to different variants of the modern M40xx's. Please let me know if you're ever interested in building the older M40 and M40A1 rifles, and I'll do what I can to lend a hand. And we're all looking forward to seeing more photos of your collection!
That's spectacular! For those that might not know, everything about the M40 is an original US military sniper rifle. Those are some of the rarest vintage sniper rifles in the world, it an outrageously impressive collection! If you and @Topgun117 combine your rifles, you'd have the ultimate USMC sniper rifle collection! While not the M40A1-A6, here are the US bolt Action Snipers for the previous Century that lead to them.
