Load Development: Where and How to Start?

Re: Load Development: Where and How to Start? I have reviewed the manuals, sites such as www.6mmbr.com, and others. I also searched for "load development" in the titles here without much success. The OCW process is useful.

Load Development: Where and How to Start?

There is a lot of info here on the process of reloading and am reasonably familiar with the "how" of constructing a round. What I don't see (and forgive me if I missed it in my search) is the process of "load development". For instance, where to start with bullet and powder selection? There...

HUGE Barerel lead Buildup - Blown Cases: How to F

Re: HUGE Barerel lead Buildup - Blown Cases: How to F Was it as bad as this? http://s832.photobucket.com/albums/zz249/PhilJr/Colt%20Cadet/ - Phil

HUGE Barerel lead Buildup - Blown Cases: How to F

My friend has a Colt Cadet pistol with a huge amount of lead in the barrel. It is so bad, cases are apparently being extracted while under pressure as evidence by bulged cases and blown primers. It is like the bullet struggles to even get down the bore, which is further evidenced by something...

Best Accuracy - Glass or Pillar Bedding?

Is there any generally accepted truth about whether conventional glass bedding or pillar bedding delivers superior accuracy? I have a Howa barreled action for which I need a stock with the objective of shooting small groups. Thanks. Phil

    Introducing the Whiskey-3 Chassis!

Re: Introducing the Whiskey-3 Chassis! I too have a Howa action and would be interested in this, even if my Howa is just a 223. But considering another in 308. Phil

Gunsmithing Stock Fitment Problem - Help!

UPDATE: It appears the problem is that the rear tang locates itself in the stock in a position that causes the action to be located too far forward. So far forward the front action/recoil lug holes do not line up and worse, there is about a 1/16" gap between the recoil lug and the...

    100 - 300 Yards - 223: 0 or 10MOA Scope Base?

    Re: 100 - 300 Yards - 223: 0 or 10MOA Scope Base? Went with 0 MOA. Majority of shooting is 100 and less to 200. - Phil

    100 - 300 Yards - 223: 0 or 10MOA Scope Base?

I am shooting a 223 Remington with 52 - 55 grain bullets at 100 yards most of the time, some times at 200, and rarely at 300. Would you use a 0 MOA or 10 MOA scope base? I am thinking 0 is fine for the purposes shown. - Phil

    Scope Base: EGW or Warne?

Re: Scope Base: EGW or Warne? Limited options. Nothing for Howa from Seekins, Murphy, Near, or Badger. Ken Farrell has one, but it appears very tall, more than I want. That leaves the EGW HD, which looks low and is in steel. Warne has one in steel. Roadale has some as well, but I need 0...

    Scope Base: EGW or Warne?

Any preferences between EGW (Evolution Gun Works) and Warne for scope bases? Warne is about $100+ while EGW is $70 for a Howa short action. - Phil

    Rifle Scopes Target Dot Size?

I very much like the Sightron SIII 6 - 24 x 50 in MOA, but it uses a .25MOA floating target dot in the center of the crosshairs. See here. http://aimfieldsports.com/WebRoot/LCN/Sh...x50LRMOARet.jpg I am after precision target shooting at 100 - 300 yards. Is the .25MOA center dot too large...

    Most Accurate 50 - 60 Grain 223 Ammo?

I will soon have two 223 rifles, one with a 1:9 twist (AR15) and the other with 1:12 (Howa barreled action). Wondering what off the shelf ammo would best show off what the rifles are capable off. No Federal Gold Match in the 50 - 60 grain range. The AR15 does not seem to care much for...

    Scope Height - Bell & Carlson A2

Re: Scope Height - Bell & Carlson A2 This info helps. I prefer a lower mounted scope, which will be a 50mm with caps. The action is a Howa 1500 which I do not have yet, so best to wait until I receive for best fitment. Especially if the B&C A2 presents a cheek weld problem if scope is a...

    Scope Height - Bell & Carlson A2

I would like to buy a scope and rings for a rifle build I am doing and it would be helpful to know what height rings (and brand/model) have worked for others when using the Bell & Carlson Medalist A2 stock. I will be using a 30mm tube. Shooting is done off a bench, while seated on a stool...
