Do you Compete or just like to shoot?

Agree. When I see top shooters who also run a match, or work one or two a year, those are the guys I respect and want to be around.

    9mm mag insert

Technically, yes, just a barrel and bolt (Check out FM Products bolts). But get a decent trigger. At this point, still a lot of trigger failures. Most default to Hiperfire, I use POF. Blowbacks are rough on triggers and lower receivers. The POF takes care of it all.

Do you Compete or just like to shoot?

Gooldylocks, while I admire the dedication to training, not everyone can do it. Like most of my friends, wife, 2 kids, own 2 businesses and spend a lot of time helping others get into the shooting sports. My personal training takes a back seat. At 51, no left ACL, half a right quad, and fat...

Do you Compete or just like to shoot?

If it has a trigger and a scoresheet, I probably will like it. I started in my 20s with small bore, moved to IHMSA, then High Power. In my 30s it was mostly IDPA and USPSA, my 40s it was mostly 3Gun and now in my 50s, Sporting Clays and Precision look to be in the forefront. Have always mixed...

    9mm mag insert

It is cool, and I plan to get some to try out when they are available.

Advanced Marksmanship Best technique for consistent .75 moa or less shooting from a tripod.

That is the one I used. I like the tension method much better than weight for several reasons: Easier, Faster, less weight to pack, no movement related to swinging of the weight, helps damp out wind produced shaking and motion better than weight.

Hunting & Fishing Electronic predator calls, suggestions?

I have hunted over several of them and the FoxPro units are very good for sure. Some of what you choose will depend on how you hunt. I tend to be out hiking and do as many as 10 set ups in a day, so compact, long battery life, lightweight, are important to me. I currently use an IcoTec GC500...

    Beta blockers

There are reports of professional golfers, Olympic shooters, Pool players and Bowlers taking Beta Blockers to enhance performance. I think it is stupid and cheating. There was a story of a few USPSA shooters using them several years ago, but in hindsight, it might have been to counter the...

    Shorter barrels for competition

My kid has a Bergara B-14 HMR in 6.5CM with a 22" barrel. Factory Hornady 129 Interlock ran 2741 and 143 ELDx ran 2715. 142 SMKs we are running at 2815 and 120 Lapua we are running at 2972.

Advanced Marksmanship Best technique for consistent .75 moa or less shooting from a tripod.

j-huskey, thanks for the comments. Always good to learn more. For my applications, shooting 3 to 6 pieces of steel in a few minutes at various distances and locations, the cam-lock with foot still seems to be the fastest and best method I have seen. I agree I would not want to be in that...

Advanced Marksmanship Best technique for consistent .75 moa or less shooting from a tripod.

I found it helped a great deal, especially if getting pushed some by the wind. That is his .22Trainer in the photo, but I also tried it with Brian's .223 out to 600 yards and my .260 out to 1045 yards. I tried the sling and belt thing too, but it felt maybe 50% looser than the foot on the...

Advanced Marksmanship Best technique for consistent .75 moa or less shooting from a tripod.

It is not mine SLG, I learned it from Brian Whalen. This is an actual picture of Brian from class. He is a great instructor and really improved my shooting tremendously. You can see he has a piece of paracord attached to the front of the stock and the rear of the stock. He has a cam-lock...

Advanced Marksmanship Best technique for consistent .75 moa or less shooting from a tripod.

Triangles make you steady, the more the better. After I learned the technique of using paracord with a cam lock and tensioned with the foot to lock the tripod down, my tripod groups went to the same size as my benched and prone groups.

Rifle Scopes Trijicon 1-8 or Prim. Arms Plat. 1-8

Oops. Yes, we were recommending the XTRII 1-8, not the 1.5-8.

Rifle Scopes Trijicon 1-8 or Prim. Arms Plat. 1-8

I really like my XTRII 1-8. Lives on my .308 pattern AR.

PRS Talk Team Challenge Gas guns

Brass I picked up from the Burris Optics Team Challenge that was just held in Douglas, WY. I RO'd, so I saw all teams shoot both a Precision and an Assault portion. I saw 16" to 24" barrels from .223 to .308. AR15 patterns edged the .308 patterns. .223 was the most common for sure in the...

Nightforce Precision Tactical 2-Rifle Match at the NRA Whittington Center Raton, NM

In it's 3rd year, this was a great match with a deep talent pool. Uncomfortable positions, easy positions, some run & gun with the AR, I had a blast. Definitely a match worth considering to put on your calendar for 2019.

    Dedicated 22lr Barreled Upper

Mostly because consumers are fickle and cheap. :) We (Carbon Arms) built match grade 22 uppers for several years. I spent a lot of time with a variety of parts to come up with an upper that was light, accurate and reliable. I'd say about 80% of them have been pure joy for their owners. 1...

    Tripod comparison data request

Mass of the system is different than the load rating. Some really high end stuff is very light, but with a high load rating. What the photo guys tell me is that the wobble, and vibration, is diminished with the higher load rating ball-heads, leveling bases and gimbals. So, yes, what...

    Tripod comparison data request

Just FTR, when I asked my friends who do high end photo and video, they told me that I wanted at least 5 times the load rating of my rifle, and preferably closer to 8 to 10. That is what pushed me to the 120# rating of the Benro. When I asked about gimbals, they literally laughed at me and...
