    New ELR rifle build. 338 IMP 37 shoulder. Throat for 285 AMAX?

    Have not tired the 285 but my 338 lapua imp has a 37 shoulder 29" barrel and shoots 300 gr berger and smk at 3000 plus with rl-25 and 33. With 25 it is at the top end with 33 I just got to the same speed with better accuracy and less pressure. It shoots the mile pretty easy most days.

    300 win mag with 208 amax, 215 bergers, a 300 rum with 230 bergers will get you to a mile with good results. A 338 lapua, edge, norma, or any improved version will get you to 2000+ yards.     230 bergers had two 300 rum's that both shot in the .3 moa range, both were 18 lbs.

    Re: 280 Ackley Improved Build i dont see why people think fire forming is a big deal just do the cream of wheat method. No bullets little powder and only takes a little bit of time. And the 280 AI is a great round, mine runs 168 and 162's at over 3000 fps and no pressure signs.

    Re: 300WM vs. 338LM For the yardage and targets you are going to shoot I would say 300, but I would also suggest a 6,6.5, or even a 7 caliber. You can get a great round to shoot that far with way less recoil, but run what you love that is why its your gun.
