    not snipery but vintage

@fpgt72 Damn, that is nice looking. My Dad and Granddad used and carried mine a lot so a lot of the bluing got worn off. It does have a nice patina though. As I mentioned above the stock was broken at the wrist real bad. My Dad did that when he fell while shooting coyotes from skis. His answer...

Can anyone ID this prewar Mauser sporter?

First thing I would do is measure the bore and see if is .318 or .323. My Big Brother had a rifle almost identical to it with double set trigger that we shot on occasion. Kicked like a mule. He loaded only light cast soft lead gas check bullets with light loads and it still knocked the snot out...

    Chinese Balloon

My theory on this bin of shit is that the balloon is floating around up there putting out various virises that were custom built in China just for the people in the USA. These virises will attack the alimentary canal causing projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea but there is hope, thanks to...

As to the SKS, my best friend called me last night and he still has his Russian that is like new from when we first bought them. He also has 2 Chinese SKS's that he picked up back then that i didn't know he had. A few months back I had him shoot my AR and he liked it well enough that he bought a...

I have my Granddad's Model 8 and had my gunsmith friend go through it. The buttstock was broken and ruined beyond repair but I found one on Gunbroker that is not the best but serviceable and he put that one on. If I can find a better one I will put it on. Mine is marked 30/30 Rem. I love...

LZ English and the others are familiar but I was never on them, I think they are up N in the old AO II Corps...

    Some new vintage

Beautiful set up you have there. Pretty country. Where is it? You are correct, those packboards can kick you in the shoulder/upper back. I never did have any problems with the straps. Say hello to Pierce for me. FM

My best friend and I both bought Russian SKS years ago. As I remember we paid $80 apiece for them. I have shot mine a lot and used it as a pickup truck gun for years and love it. It's not new and shiny anymore. I have never had a failure with it, it ties a knot every time.

Is this guy legit? 300 kills during Vietnam!! Come on man

Asshole doesn't look old enough to have been there. I call Bullshit. Lots of Snipers, Seals, LRRPs, and Recons over there, not many grunts, truck drivers, clerks or cooks though.

    So o ut of date...

@muvinbird I was in Vietnam at age 20-21 for 1 year. I was not a sniper but in a small light infantry unit. Where you fought the cold, we fought the heat. Where I was in VN was 1-2 and 3 canopy jungle with millions of bugs and other things common to jungles, very hard to move around in that...

Two new (to me) Wildcats - .240 & .270 Gibbs

Glassbedding was a common practice in those days but a release agent was usually applied to all metal parts that contacted the bedding so they could be taken apart. Some of that bedding could have gotten on the threads of that screw. Gently applying some heat to that screw head may let it...

MDT Bolt Knob Install on Tikka T1X

I haven't done a Tikka but did a Savage and a Rem. I used small waterpump pliers to get things together where the screw would engage and different screwdriver blades to separate them to do modifications such as dremel mentioned above. Caution, do not over tighten screw. Good luck.

Two new (to me) Wildcats - .240 & .270 Gibbs

On the left side of military actions there is an area that is cut down where the shooters thumb could go down farther when reloading using a stripper clip. That cutout is absent in commercial actions but present on military actions. Also German military rifles had every piece numbered with the...
