    Whats your SD (PRS/ELR)

Since the thread is titled "PRS/ELR", let's keep things in perspective. For PRS, some things matter more than others. In ELR (1500 yards and beyond, especially 1+ mile/s), it ALL matters. I will add that my personal belief is that having the best rifle and ammunition does little if you can't...

    Whats your SD (PRS/ELR)

I never understood logically how the Satterlee method could be construed as accurate. I understand the premise, but knowing that we shoot an average speed based on a particular charge weight which is the result of an average based on ES, and then selecting a load on a sample size of 1, just...

    Whats your SD (PRS/ELR)

I always wonder about the small or odd number shot groups guys seem to post showing their low numbers; culling for effect I guess.

    Whats your SD (PRS/ELR)

I agree that what you throw powder with does not guarantee low numbers as I have gotten good numbers from the means you list. I think getting good ES/SDs comes from being consistent with your methods and that you reach a point where you have to decide if the energy spent for minor improvements...

    Whats your SD (PRS/ELR)

ES and SD are also relate to several factors; brass prep, weighing/sorting of brass and/or bullets and/or primers, neck turning as well as type of scale used when measuring powder. I know a couple of shooters who use (and can afford) a Prometheus and their numbers are always better than those of...

Whats everyone running for ballistics app?

I have several of the usual suspects and to be honest, they are all within 0.1 MIL of each other and provide solid data if your inputs are correct. I always suggest getting one the is the easiest for YOU to use. Shooter and AB Mobile are almost alike and easy to navigate and modify. StrelokPro...

    Whats your SD (PRS/ELR)

The This exactly why it’s done; making corrections based solely on POI is futile and without merit at longer distances where ES is your enemy. I am not anal about my reloading yet, it may come as longer distances avail themselves, but this is my last trip out shooting to 2300 yards with the...

Range Report Need help with Tall Target Test

Why you perform this test - To confirm elevation shift and vertical is mechanically correct and make any necessary corrections to compensate for any deviation in your ballistics program using the correction factor What is elevation shift - Elevation shift is the amount of travel your POI has at...

Barrel break in yes or no

I’ve taken the path many have already stated with one exception. I clean a new barrel thoroughly including a copper cleaner (Patch Out). I then go to the range and zero my scope and shoot a 3 or 5-shot group, usually 10 rounds +/- total. I then clean the barrel again including a copper cleaner...

What caliber is the 6 dasher equivalent at a mile?

300 or 338 Norma Magnums. I can appreciate the extra case capacity of the "improved" versions but I run the standard shouldered calibers because dies are readily available, no need to fire-form brass and very easy to load for. I would think the 300 PRC would be another viable candidate as well.

Front Rest Bag or Adjustable Rest?

Most guys run something in the 6"-9" range. While they cost a little more, one advantage of the Atlas bipods is that they have 3" leg extensions available should you need a little more height. There are also several new players in the bipod game that I'm not familiar with that may offer more...

    MagnetoSpeed Repeatability

Let me add that the different mounting systems have their "quirks" that need to be considered. The MK Machine works best on a straight sided chassis, although I'm sure one could use shims if mounting on a stock that has a taper to the forend. Also, the type of bipod you are using will make a...

    MagnetoSpeed Repeatability

I'm not going to try to dispute the physics/aerodynamics at play but I will say that many shooters are using the Magneto Speed with a chassis/stock attachment, like the ones available from Wiser or MK Machine , and shooting ELR to monitor their speeds before making elevation adjustments. David...

    LRA Bipods Available Again

For those still interested in the "real" LRA (Long Range Accuracy) bipods, they are available again at Euro Optics. They've been out of production for quite awhile but it's good to see them back on the market.

Accuracy expectations for a PRS rifle

I’ve always told shooters that if you and your rifle can shoot a 10-shot group that you can cover with a quarter (approx 1 MOA), go learn wind.
