Rifle Scopes Tangent Theta - TT525P

"I think that when two 5-25 scopes with the same features hit the market and one costs 2x as much as the other it would be nice to know why." That's what he wrote. I think that he's talking about comparing two 5-25x56 type premium scopes to one another and if one is $4200 and the other is...

Rifle Scopes How do I get brass marks off windage turret?

Copper solvent and a toothbrush, or white toothpaste? Go lightly. 0000 steel wool might work with some solvent applied to it, but go lightly. Chris

Rifle Scopes Concerning scope rings versus 1 piece mount

I'm no expert on one piece mounts, but I have the Ken Farrell, BO and TPS 20 MOA rails and they're not all made to the same height. BO shorter than TPS, TPS shorter than KF. I think that with an integral 20 MOA rail, adding a 1 piece mount might make things a bit higher off the action, but...

Rifle Scopes Tangent Theta - TT525P

Much like Premier and Vortex, let's give things a few years before we anoint it Queen Elizabeth III. When it comes to optics, there are a lot of people who jump on the bandwagon and become instant 'fan boys.' I think that this mentality does a disservice to companies like Zeiss, USO...

    Rifle Scopes TT525P Has Landed

I'm out of the 'buying' business for now, but looking at the 'scope shootout,' some of these things are almost double the price of a nice rifle and while I bought a SB 52556 PMII back in early '06, it cost me $2650 shipped with BC covers--the same price as my then new TRG-42 338, sans...

    Question about .308 velocities?

I'd say no. Not safely, at least, but in today's world, anything's possible on the internet. What are you doing with 210gr hunting bullets, BTW? Chris

    OAL or Charge????

Jamming the lands first, can sometimes increase pressure, without telling you much beyond that. Finding your high and low nodes, with charge weights, can yield tangible benefits first and then those benefits can allow you to fine tune things down the road, with seating depths. I'll pick a...

    Lapua Senar'S

Lapua makes excellent match grade bullets. They're not cheap, but they're worth a one, or two box, gamble. Buy both and see what you see. Chris

    Lapua Senar'S

Lapua makes a lot of different Scenars, Sparky. I love the the 155s, the 167s, the 185s and the 250s. Scenars can stand a little bit of a jump. Chris

    140 Amax Jump,Touch or Jam

There is no 'correct' answer, there's only 'what works best' for your barrel, weapon and load combo. This is why I suggested that you play with a few seating depths and then go from there. Finding the sweet spot is part of the fun and you'll gain practice through experimentation. You've...

    140 Amax Jump,Touch or Jam

It's always prudent to start off the lands in the beginning with moderate powder weights for the cartridge/powder combo that you'll be using in the beginning and then work UP and IN. For a box of 50 cartridges, load 10 rounds at .005" off, load 15 rounds at .010" off, load 15 rounds at .015"...

    Savage model 10 throat questions

It seems that Savage has shortened their throats in recent years. My new 2005 10FP LE2b would allow a 168gr SMK to be seated to a COAL of ~2.045" and a 175gr SMK to about ~2.040". After 3300 rounds, that's opened up anywhere between .025"-.040". 2.800" for a 168gr SMK is too tight IMO...

    H or IMR 4895?

For old time's sake, IMR-4895, but I have no problem with Hodgdon's offerings. I don't know if H-4895 is cut a little shorter/longer, so that might be a tipping point for me. Personally, get a pound of each, load up a couple of boxes and head to the range. Report back to us what you note...

New Bass Pro Shop....no help for the powder flow here..

I was in the Dania Beach (Miami/Ft.Laud.) Bass Rape Shop on Saturday and they had a few pounds of RL 15/17/19 and 22, which was nice--maybe 8-10 cans total, a 4320 IMR and a couple of other cans. All$30.99. Bullets were there, but nothing I'd call 'over-flowing.' I didn't see primers, as they...

Just bought one of these for $162

Congratulations? What's the warranty period on it? I'm still using my 1995 Dillon CV-500 tumbler and don't have any desire to get into wet tumbling. Chris

bullet jump recomendation for 140gr Remington 260 load

Over on 6mmBR forum, there's an article quoting lots of champion shooters and for some reason, many like .017" off the lands. Load some up at .005", .010", .015" and .020" and see what you see. I was on board for the Berger .338" 250 OTM hybrids and only had time to fiddle with seating...

Lake City Match brass, headstamps 63 and 66. Anyone know anything about it?

It's just brass used in loading their match grade stuff. No crimped in primer pockets, IIRC and no primer sealer and no sealed bullets. I think original 308 loadings use the 172-173gr FMJ/BT, before yielding to the M-852 stuff using the 168gr SMK. I don't know if M-118LR is used in matches...

Redding Bushing Dies for Semi-Auto Use

I only use this method for 223 and 308, since my 22-250, 7RM, and 338LM die sets don't need the step down bushings, but that method works pretty well, even though you pay a little more money for it. Much faster than swapping out the bushings and running the press for another pass. Chris

Redding Bushing Dies for Semi-Auto Use

I use step down bushings for everything over a .005"-.006" jump and since some of my rifles have generous throats that blow out my necks, it's a common practice for me. I have separate 'sizing' and 'seating' toolheads for my 550b, with tandem bushing neck sizing dies proceeding a body die, so...
