Maggie’s The Woodchuck and Firewood Hoarders Thread

Dump trailer was by far the best investment I ever made in doing firewood... No more loading by hand and unloading by hand into and out of a truck bed or landscape trailer. The bed floor of that can take loading big logs in with a skid steer or FEL. I added some taller sides to mine (rough cut...

    AR500 -AR50 - AR450?

Sniper, that's only with a general heating, which anneals the steel and removes the heat treat. You'd have to get a broad coverage at 1400+F for a few minutes to remove the heat treat from 3/8" plate... A plasma cutter or even torch is such a localized heat, it won't have any effect on...

    AR500 -AR50 - AR450?

FYI, both are easily weldable as well. If you have to drill holes for hangers, see if the metal shop has a punch brake they can use on the AR450, you'll kill a box of bits trying to drill it... A torch/plasma cutter is another option for holes. If you absolutely have to drill, start small and...

    AR500 -AR50 - AR450?

Not sure what AR50 steel is... it's not a trade name that I can find. Grade 50 steel ( like ASTM 572) is low strength, 50ksi type steel. It's soft, structural steel, that won't hold up to a ton of shots... its a low carbon, basic steel, not designed for impacts or abrasion resistance. AR450...

    2A Reality Check

LOL. He got it mostly right, but how he got there was, uhhh, interesting? Using a CNN write/contributor? Seriously?

If he saw the flag mount, I'd assume he wouldn't have cut right there... Then again, after working with a tree service for a few summers, and loggers for years, I can assure you, many guys would look right at it, and put the saw exactly where he did, then cuss when the sparks start flying... It...

Cabelas Krotos HD Spotting scope is $500 off; worth buying?

Go look through a 15-45 Razor, then the 15-45 Krotos... You'll be hard pressed to say the Krotos isn't as good, if not better. For the higher power, I agree the Razor is better, but its also significantly larger and more expensive. I'm not trekking out with an 80+mm spotter, ever, so I won't...

    Favorite brake

I have the ZRO Delta (Formerly Alamo Four Stars), on a 260, and it's impressive. Gotta shim it for timing, but if you're stuck in a commie state (like me), it doesn't really matter anyway.

Cabelas Krotos HD Spotting scope is $500 off; worth buying?

You'll appreciate the quality of the glass for $700. For $1200, it's still good glass, but not great at that price. IMO, if you can find the 15-45x65, go with that one for the extra hundred or two less. It's a great scope for that price. I have one, and it really does rival the lower mag range...

Rifle Scopes Scope Snob in remission

Nice post. Makes me not regret going with a Bushy XRS instead of something twice the price... Out of curiosity, on the long range stages, how was everyone else doing compared to your 6 hits? In really windy conditions, that could be quite good.

    Cheap(er-ish) Tripod with best stability?

How does the Night Stalker compare tot he Hog Saddle tripod? Its got the ball head on it already, so I'm kinda curious the difference in quality between the tripods themselves.

March 13th 2018 School Walk Out... except the schools are facilitating it

Welcome to NY Frankly... Normally, Upstate is decent, but even where I grew up in WNY where it was half farm kids and half yuppies, it's gone soft (left). The school had a rifle team in the basement, still does... Yet shortly after the FL shooting, the popularity contest that's high school...

Hunting & Fishing What is your go to knife in the field?

I've used a Gerber Gator for 15 years for the same reason... Cheap, takes a good edge, easy to sharpen, stainless blade is really stainless, so blood, shit, piss, salt, guts, etc., won't stain it. Wash it out and air dry it, put it back in the sheath for the next one. I've skinned with it before...

Bushnell Legend T Series 15-45x60 FFP

Thinking I know the answer to this already, but seeing as how the obj size is so much different, how does this compare to a Konus 80mm spotter? I like the compact package a lot... certainly something I could take to the stand in a pack compared to the Konus, but for 300-800+yd range work...

    Tikka T3 Thread

I prefer the AICS mags... One of the biggest reasons is I know that somebody else at a match will have some I could borrow if I break one, or one starts malfunctioning. Good luck finding another CTR mag...

    Rifle Scopes Budget 34mm mount

For a cheap scope, its an option. I wouldn't put a high end tube in that though... lord knows what the straightness or concentricity of those two clamping surfaces are... Be wary of the material too, I had some UTG rings on a 22lr, they cracked along the rail dovetail after a few months as it's...

XLR Carbon vs. AI AX Chassis

You can add Mlok rails to the newer ones. There are slots on the top of the handguard. They are using Faxon handguards at this point. Even the older models can have rails added, it's just using a different install.
