    Suppressors Gemtech HVT issue

Sorry, I assumed QD since mine was QD. Even after the mod, mine still isn't what my Ti suppressor is in the way of accuracy. I'll probably end up donating my HVT to a local SO at some point. If you reload run a ladder with a new load, less powder by .5 or so. My 260 takes 42.5 grains suppressed...

    Suppressors Gemtech HVT issue

I had the same issue with my HVT (SS) and sent it back to Gemtech. Their CS department shot it with some old linked 147 ball and said it was good to go but, I disagreed. They converted it to a direct thread and returned it to me. If it's the Ti version convert it, if SS move it and get a direct...

    Suppressors Socom 556-rc

It's the PWS Mk110 upper chambered in 223 Wylde but, first gen of the mod 1. The only difference is the barrel is now 1/2 to 3/4 longer. That's a complete PWS rifle to include the Mk1 lower. The SOCOM 556 will fit the 10.75 " Mod 1 uppers just fine if you go that route, it'll probably will fit...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Shield almost took my fingers today

I've been around the .40 for years and have never seen one blow up because it was a .40 Once a year we qualify well over 400 LEO's at the SO range from multiple agencies. Following that we run a remedial class twice a month for those that failed to shoot above the requirement of the SO (SO...

    Cerakote on a Defiance action?

It'll be fine but, it will be a little tight at first. Paint the bolt black and it wont be so tight. Greens & Tans are the tightest.

    Suppressors Socom 556-rc

A few months back I was asking for pictures of the SOCOM 5556-RC for hand guard clearance reasons. Turns out that it fits fine and times perfectly with the standard Surefire .050" + .018" shim washers and the SOCOM Brake. The suppressor to mount fit is what you'd expect from surefire. With the...

Gunsmithing Lathe Chatter; using PTG action jig for tenon/chambering.

It's a nice set up and Mr. Pastor is very passionate about his work. I use indexable carbide and prefer to turn/face at 750 rpm+, thread at 242 rpm+ and chamber at 242 rpm. I use a chamber flush other wise I'd chamber at 70-80 rpm. I pre-chamber with carbide roughing reamers at 420 rpm BTW. I...

    Gunsmithing Action truing fixture idea

If you can get your receiver running to less than .00005" TIR by tapping, bashing or prying my hats off to you, I wouldn't even try it. The screws make it 1000% easier and faster to do so. For those asking, there's an aluminum sleeve that slips over the receiver and then the total package slips...

Suppressors Any benefit to a dedicated 223 suppressor for AR?

You might not be able to hear the difference between a 5.56/223 can vs a 30 cal can but, it's there. If you already have a 30 caliber can en-route I'd get a 5.56/223 can as well for the AR's. I've run a Gemtech 300WM Ti Sandstorm on everything from 6XC up and it's been spot on, good suppression...

Gunsmithing Lathe Chatter; using PTG action jig for tenon/chambering.

You have way too much material hanging out in front of the chuck. No matter what you do your going to get work piece flex and chatter. In order to turn, thread and chamber the right way, with out chatter, you need an outboard spider and get the work area of your work piece closer to the chuck.

Gunsmithing PTG One Piece Bolt for a 700

I think it boils down to personal preference more than anything. I've used a few of these and fit varies receiver to receiver. The last one I did was for a 300 win mag and the fit was absolutely perfect. The gap between the bolt handle and rear receiver ring was .005" when closed. This afforded...

    Gunsmithing Grizzly 0709 spindle chatter

Install rubber shims designed for motors between the motor's mounting bracket and motor feet. Loosen the belt slightly and don't over tighten it. Just snug hand tension is good enough. It looks like one of the cheap Chinese motor's that's used on those machines. I had a motor issue with an early...

    Gunsmithing Gunsmithing Tools

You need a lathe that's 13x40 / 14x40 max. A good used series 1 Bridgeport Mill will do all you ever need it to do. Take machine shop classes at a Vo Tech type school and skip Gunsmithing school. That is probably the most important piece of advice I can give. Being a precision rifle builder is...
