Mine wasn't great on my MKII TRR-SR, and had no plans on ever needing the threaded end so I had my gunsmith chop it off and re-crown the barrel. Cost was $75 and worth it over waiting for Savage to fix it
Buy a more basic gun WITHOUT the cheap scope. Buy a replacement stock from Boyd's or wherever and a cheap but decent scope like a Simmons or something. Then you and your son can put the whole package together and have a great bonding moment

Replacing the bottom metal with D.I.P. parts or the setup from savagegunsmithing will let you torque your screws better. Adding pillars greatly helps also

I love my TRR SR. Added D.I.P. bottom metal and scope base. Pillared and bedded, action screws torqued @ 20in lbs, and about 20 minutes spent on the trigger(14 ounces safely). Clearidge Ultra XP 4.5-14 AO It is a tack driver.
50yd..

All 3 of the rounds you used are subsonic. Maybe just not marketed that way.. Standard Velocity = Subsonic... Anything marked "MATCH" is subsonic. ;)
